A Few Words to Share...

I finally find something where I feel welcome and happy, and effing Tyra Banks has to go and ruin it!!
Let me explain.
On an episode of Tyra Banks she was talking about extreme fetishes.
One of those fetishes happened to be Furries.
I just recently joined this fandom and I have my own definition for what it means to me.
To be furry is to have an inner self. A art of me that can only be expressed through my drawings. That person happens to be Veronica.
To be furry is to have an understanding for other other people and the world around you. It's to have a universal love for all things. Other people, whether they be furs or human, plants and life, and the way that people live.
It's the embodiment of what I believe in.
And for a fellow fur to go on the show and talk about her own way of being a furry... I'll say that she did have alot of guts to go on TV and say those things, but at the same time, no one will ever think of furs as anything more than fur-suiting, yiff crazed, perverts.
She defined being furry as "A person who dresses as an animal when having sex". That isn't what it means to me, or alot of the fandom !
Syre there are hose out there that do dress in fur suits and yiff. But being a furry can mean so much more than that.
A friend of mine couldn't have put it better:
"Being a furry means a million different things to a million different people.
To me, it's about being myself, and letting my inner animal out.
I love the art, I love non-troll furries.
I'd go on national TV and admit to being a furry.
I have no suit, but I'd wear one if I could afford it."
Now the one place I felt welcomed and a part of has been slandered. Just because of Tyra making fun of this couple and for them defining "furry" in such a bleak way the fandom will never be looked at the same way again.
And no, this doesn't mean I'll quit being a fur. It's a part of and who I am. I just have to do my part in restoring the fandom and helping people understand.
It's not beastiality.
It's not zooaphilia.
It's not pedophilia.
It's not all about sex.
The people who do and think these things are extremists. Regardless of being furry or not, they'd still be this way. So for those of you who think that furries are nothing but perverted freaks, THAT'S NOT WHAT IT'S ABOUT.
It's being loved and loving.
It's being accepting.
It's about art and stories
It's about your inner animal
It's about expressing yourself and who you really are.
The people who think this are the ones who undrstand the true way of being furry. Yes the sexual expression is a big part of it, but that's not it's whole. It's so much more! And I really wish people would understand this.
I end this little rant of mine now. A stronger person. And a stronger Fur.

I was really just speaking my mind here though ^^;

I tried to tie it in with my argument on the term "Americans" but I'm not as good with words as you are.
It'll be kind of like:
*In head* his sounds amazing! I should say this astonishing comment*

I'll admit that the Furry comunity has never had a nice place in people's minds but this will just make it all the worse...
here's to hop!
(and its Rootbeer)
Thankfully, she's at my father's house tonight, not here, so I didn't get to see it. Huzzah.
I kinda raged on the inside...just about every question the host asked was a mock...ugh...
in reality, furry is just the inner animal within you, like you explained. all the other fetishes (costumes, bestiality, etc.) have nothing to do with it's original definition; they are fetishes the individual fur is into. but ignorant people have linked them together to create a monster of a stereotype. I'm gonna admit that I'm a zoophilic, and no, I don't go around yiffing the closest animal to me. I was actually into bestiality before I was a furry. I know there are furries here who are not into inter-species relationships, as well as people who are into it but are not furries. its just a fetish that idiots seem to connect furries with just cause they're animal-related.
But in no way does that have anything to do with me being a furry. I've been looking at porn since I first got a computer.
