Slowly but surely...(YCH update)
Posted 6 years agoSome of these models require using new wireframes and that requires a new texturing system, but I'm getting there. I'm still waiting on a response from my last raffle winner.
YCH Raffle picture status
Posted 6 years agoIt's taking time, but it's proceeding, slowly but surely. Some cubs are a little harder to build and texture than others.

Free YCH raffle, calling all cubs!
Posted 6 years agoOkay, I guess my business kinda dried up, and I admit I'm not the best at running a business. But I would like to finally finish a YCH...I actually have fun doing these, and I don't really make much (sometimes I need to buy models or fix something). I'm working on expanding my model base, and I don't want to exclude by species or anything. Some models are trickier to build than others.
But I want to make a fun scene and get myself out there again. Real life happens, and I know that if I don't keep up my end, I'll end up getting hosed as an artist.
So, I'd like to challenge myself. Open the field a bit.
That said, I'm making this one free, with one condition:
-Slot #5 is already spoken for right now for the fur who requested it when I put this up last year.
Here's how this is going to work.
Entries will get a number in order of request. I'll do what I can to keep things ordered by time stamp, but if you want in, let me know, and I'll assign a number.
I will do a sequential drawing using a random number generator. Each winner, in order, gets to choose an available slot from those slots remaining.
One entry per user.
You may transfer your slot to another user, but I need 2 notes, one telling me you offered to give up your place, and one from the user who accepted it.
Entries close at 9/22/19 unless I state otherwise.

Cooling issues solved
Posted 7 years agoI recently upgraded to a GeForce RTX 2070, so I can now do iRay rendering...and nearly fry my processor! If you have a liquid cooling loop, here are some things that I found out the hard way:
If you can program the pump and fan speeds, make sure that the pump and radiator fans crank to 100% at around 80 degrees C and 75% at around 70 degrees C. The pump speed is important to set manually...the faster water moves past the exchange surfaces, the more effective the cooling system.
Make sure the cooling loop has no air in the lines. It'll work its way out.
If you want an AIO cooler, make sure it fits inside the case!

I'm a babyfur...AND I VOTE!
Posted 9 years agoI am not going to tell you who to vote for, nor am I going to tell you who I would vote for...but I am going to say this. If you are an enfranchised member of your country, use your voice!
For me, being a babyfur isn't about loss of control...it's about ULTIMATE CONTROL, being able to shut it down on one's own volition, and resume it at will. It's about retaining fractions of innocence while knowing that the world will attempt to destroy it...and yet that innocence is part of what makes us living, thinking, feeling beings.
You have a conscience. You have a mind. You have a voice. The only crime is that you neglect to use all three when you can.

Slight problem...
Posted 9 years agoOkay, when I restarted "Space Furs" I did say there might be problems? The problem with having a high power cpu is the need for cooling and the cooling loop on my computer leaked.
And no, i can't put a diaper on the cooling loop. Even if I did, too much coolant gets out and the CPU fries.
The good news is that I have a tax refund so i might be able to replace the damaged parts. The bad news is that work on Space Furs might be delayed. This early, it's not a problem. Data should be intact, but the hardware needs work.

Changing models? Maybe...
Posted 10 years agoI'm finding some models that I can make compatible with the Genesis platform that make acceptable foundations for furre species, even some that I can't do with Starfox Krystal. This will open up a lot of possibilities. So...once I clear off a few projects, I'll try some of it out.
Getting my head on straight (comments plz)
Posted 10 years agoI've recently closed commissions for a time...not that I had very many of them, but at least here I've given due warning. This isn't to exclude art trades, it's mainly to get myself in order.
A lot of things have happened at once, but I'm trying to get my paw back in. The Happytails ad project will be completed, and the commisisons I have been late on will be completed.
I want to get some work done for the community, but it will take some doing. Here is what I have in need:
1) RAM upgrades. I need to add more memory because the fur shaders and the new diaper has maxed out my current RAM.
2) A new case. Need airflow for cooling.
3) A laminator.
sylkis commission brought it home for me...a shrinky-dink plastic system isn't going to work...it screws up the color palette.
Something that I may want to add in the future...a 3D printer. Bear in mind this will need some more work as I need to figure out how to translate the texture over onto the model, but what I hope to offer is a figurine that you can paint. I know how to operate one, I've even made enough mistakes and seen enough malfunctions on a few at school.
How do I hope to pay for all this? After the Happytails ad is done and I have cleared my plate, I will open up commissions and:
-The Happytails Package YCH.
-Restart the "Space Furs" thing. Diaperfurs in space? Kinda required, you can't get up to go to the bathroom at 3g's.
-Better badge commissions. They'll at least look like the ones you see on the screen.
-Lower price ref sheets. This will help me build the model, texture, and shader set for each person. (All data is stored confidentially...not like anyone could use the wireframes I tweaked anyway, lol.)
-Grouparts! Especially if I can get more RAM, I can model more furres!
I need feedback, comments, ideas, frankly if anyone is still interested in my art here, please let me know! Also suggestions for groupart scenarios or motifs!

Upgraded diapers!

System crash
Posted 11 years agoThere was a power supply...
Which crashed and took out my mainboard and CPU...
Which screwed up the pump motor on my cooling system...
My system died.
But I got better.
I need to reinstall all of my apps but the data is on a separate drive so anyone's work I'm working on is at least saved. Nothing's permanently lost.

Why the diaper? It's physics.
Posted 11 years agoSometimes there are details people focus on. In my case...it's the diaper. Why? Is it perverse? Is it a babyfur thing?
No...it's quality and realism in a 3D model.
When I construct something in 3D I try to make it behave as though it were a physical thing. In any model there are certain "tells" that throw the eye of the viewer. I'm trying to create something that doesn't say..."oh, someone got a posing program and just slapped this crap together."
Diapers are particularly tricky...and the reason is geometry.
If you've ever found the "how it's made" segment on disposable diapers on YouTube, you'll see that they're manufactured flat...then folded and flattened and packed again. It's a slab that's folded and stacked. This slab gets unfolded and then wrapped about the pelvis of an anthropomorphic being (human, fur, whatever), and the geometry changes. To a computer, this is a lot of stuff to think about.
To a living viewer, it's a lot more to convince. Everyone has seen a diaper commercial or a living baby at a glance or in the off chance at the very least. We see how they move. And the diaper is just an afterthought, the most basic garb...until you try to tell a computer how to make one.
And when I get one off-the-shelf...what drives me nuts is that these companies, who pride themselves on realism...have the material riding up the butt crack. Might drive modelers nuts, say..."let's have an endearing scene of a family at the beach or in the backyard or in the home...and then there's this careless prop that all of a sudden throws the eye because it's just not realistic.
To be fair it's a tricky model to rig if you want something with full physics. You need to program something that goes from a geometric slab to a rigged pelvic prop with displacement and compression variables rigged to the model. If it were that easy, Kimberly-Clark and Proctor & Gamble wouldn't be spending billions on R&D...the geometric models they have are secret to the nth degree...(and for something that seems so trivial or taboo, it's a multibillion dollar market).
No cheap solutions here...and no easy ones without the cynics calling me a pervert. But as an artist in 3D, it's like saying..."hey, I need to fill in a detail and make it look real!"
Still working on it.

I don't copy Second Life!
Posted 11 years agoIt seems a little defensive but I just want to make things clear and get ahead of the cynics and trolls.
On one hand, I can appreciate the comparison...Second Life and I do use computer-based 3D rendering systems. And I do use SL myself to talk with the babyfur/diaperfur community at large. Furthermore I have great respect for the avatar creators like WereHouse and Luskwood Creatures, as they have to create wireframes and textures, rig them, and debug them for the SL engine.
But I don't just screenshot SL. The stuff used in SL is engineered and optimized for realtime activity. When I model and render my art I tweak and retweak the models to get it right...sometimes the client wants additional changes done, but I can adjust them.
When I build a model-texture set, I make it unique to each client and try to get it all right as best I can...like rebuilding a ref sheet in vectors and textures.
Perhaps I misrepresented myself with my ad.

Client Support
Posted 11 years agoA few of my clients have run into an issue...whether paid or raffle...that is, they are not getting their files. I have yet to be commissioned for prints (and i am good up to 8.5"x11" hi-rez) that need to be shipped, and I haven't yet had a badge commissioned...what I'm concerned about are digital files being lost.
If you have paid into a commission or group project, I have you on record, and you are explicitly entitled to a full-rez, non-watermarked copy of the final product, which you are free to print yourself or post on your website. A few of my clients have come back saying they never got their JPGs. If you haven't received your product, LET ME KNOW so I can make sure you get your product. I have your transactions so I know who you are, but if the internet screwed us both over, I'll make good on it.
I'm bringing this up because a few of my clients have told me they never got their files even after I sent them in attachments. If this is the case, let me know...when I accept payment I am delivering a product.
I need to finish a commission and then I'm back into Space Furs.
Also...I actually want to thank those who won my raffle promo, because it was a fair degree of insanity for me that taught me lessons about how to make things work. And I'm still trying to make the perfect 3D diaper...if you've ever seen how it looks on a real toddler, well...I think I'm close (and if Daz makes decent anthro figures I can re-work the Genesis Baby diaper to look realistic, until then, I'm kludging it).
I'm just trying to make something...close to real.
And thanks to everyone for helping me get every step closer.
And...some good news...Daz 3d bridge to photoshop has been fixed so I can expand my arsenal.

Space Furs...on hold but not aborted
Posted 11 years agoFinals and all that! The good news is that I'm getting my techniques down and may have a faster turnover once this is done.
I do have some parameters for the project, and mostly these are based on common sense...and a request for participant information.
1) Please tell me if you want exposed diapers. (Remember, this is a space shot...flight deck crew is diapered because we can't have a flight officer getting up to go to the bathroom in the middle of a maneuver...look, it's for real with NASA on the shuttle missions.) If not, it's discreet, and not even bulging (just the insistence of the flight surgeon).
2) If you're EVA, you're clothed. Can't have license on this one, even if you're magically inclined. Safety is safety, and you don't want your blood erupting out of your butt due to pressure!
3) These scenes are going to be in zero-gravity in a pressurized environment. If you have wings, you can use them. All participants will have grav-boots if they need to be engaged with the deck.

Delayed at this point but...still in this
Posted 11 years agoI keep a policy never to issue an invoice until I have a product, because life happens. However, I want people to know...I have not abandoned my projects. Existing commissions and the Space Furs group project are still ongoing. However, with classes approaching their close, I am not going to have as much time as I'd like.
However, I have made progress and the files are saved and backed up.

Getting over a low point in my life, but thanks to everyone!
Posted 11 years agoAnd I'm thanking all of you because...I have a commission to do and I have enthusiasm in a group project! Things have been insanely hard...but I'm glad to have friends and people who appreciate what I do.
Rest assured, I am going to do what I can to get my speed back up, and I know I have issues...it's one of the reasons why I don't send an invoice unless I have a product. I don't want my issues screwing over my clients.
Originally I'd hoped to do conbadges...not simply the pictures, but also mounting and shipping. I guess I have a ways to go before I'm credible in that department...but I'm glad for what I can do.
I'm not the only one who can 3D render...but I do what I can. I think if I can get some spare time I need to try to develop a working diaper.
Seems simple, but try looking at a folded diaper versus one open in a commercial versus one being worn. It's the same geometry being forced into different configurations. What's worse is that you look at some of these high-end 3D retailers who claim to have conforming diapers...and they are unrealistic. Kinda sucks because a lot of these sites pride themselves on photorealism.
But thanks to everyone...you might not think you've helped but you have. I'm glad for it.

CAD and 3D
Posted 11 years agoAutoCAD has been a godsend for me as an artist, and thanks to Google with Sketchup, CAD software is cheap as free. You also get a hellacious discount if you're a student ($200 for $6000 worth of software...totally worth it, and there's no "education only" overlay stuck on the files).
It's a great way to make props and port over other props. There are even free 3D CAD models and blocks if you want to look. Alex's new crib came from such a site, and the license allows for unlimited use. Appreciate these people...

Updates on trying to get myself back in...
Posted 11 years agoHere is the update...
Skittlefox (no icon now, but he's on E-mail and I'll copy him): This is a tricky one because I'm still trying to make a puffy surface. It's hard to tell the computer how to do things.
dray-and-erika: I've got a couple of ways to work the model now, I think I can do the model you want.
marcofox: Can you give me an idea on what you want your commission to be? I mean if you give me a picture in words, I can make it a picture for real. I may have lost the message but I still have the ref. Not too hard to model.
My situation is that I am not alone where I live, but I do have more possibilities for time and privacy. The latter is vital...I not only want to protect myself but also my clients.
Now there may be other 3D render works coming up. I want to make it clear that the raffle winners and art trades are not being neglected. I've hoped to pick up a few paid commissions but those are rare...I just need to get the creative juices flowing. And rest assured...THESE WILL GET DONE.
Skittlefox (no icon now, but he's on E-mail and I'll copy him): This is a tricky one because I'm still trying to make a puffy surface. It's hard to tell the computer how to do things.

What kinda fur is Santa Claus?
Posted 12 years agoI saw mommy kissing Santa Claus...wait...the real Santa Claus?! I knew mommy was a veteran but that's...seriously high level stuff!
And yet I have no idea. We all have an imagination and ideas...what would Santa Claus be to furs here?
Me, I imagined a polar bear, kinda like Iorek from "The Golden Compass..." Strong, honorable, but above all, kind and protective, and very wise. But that's just me. Others may have their own ideas as to a phenotype...or a lack thereof. Or maybe Santa's true form is humanoid, but can shapeshift to comfort the children he knows.
I'm curious as to the opinions of others.

You all each get one free single-character full-rendered commission with set and lighting!
I'll even work this so that if you want to bring in other characters, it'll only be $2.50 per additional character rather than the usual $5.
The original prize, full rendering, lighting, set work, and a single character, remains free and yours. Congratulations to all the winners!
Bear in mind I have classes so things might take a bit, and I'm also working using a new HD by
setsune_w so I may be able to improve the models.
So note me with what you want when you want it.
