one more family loss.
Posted 2 years agotoday, around 06:20, hospital called.
at december 10, we had to put my mom into hospital. it turned out there was a weak heart, fluids in tissues everywhere, diabetes, and a stubborn infection around her legs causing a sepsis. and that sepsis had caused multiple internal organ failure... so to intensive care she went.
she was mostly unconcious until recently she woke up a little more. I visited her at 24th, where she seemed to recognize me. a day or two later she was moved from IC. yesterday she was awake, so things looked up.
tonight though, she gave up.
on one hand, her suffering is over. also, if she had ended up needing intensive care she'd have suffered more, and I wouldn't have been able to afford that.
on the other hand I desperately needed her retirement income, the house needs to be paid off, and the mortgage rates are as high as my own income. so I'll have to talk to the bank eventually soon.
and now I'm alone. not alone alone, there are friends still, the neighbours she was friends with and who helped her a lot getting around while I was working, and family from father's side. the majority of them are decent people and functional families, but they live all a good distance away. at least we can phone...
but from mom's side there is nobody left anymore.
later I'm going to go to the hospital and do what needs be done, and try to be an adult.
2022 hasn't been too pleasant, either. I have no hopes for 2023.

NFT art thieves
Posted 3 years agoI just got a link to this site:
https://opensea.io/0x7ecdd0f211bd87.....73?tab=created
they stole art from everywhere (including a screenshot from TLK) and sell it for some crypto-shit... I saw a good number of familiar images myself.
go and look, and alarm your artists to this. seems there is a button to report something at the page bottom, maybe it helps...

scubaq diving/wave surfing comissions open
Posted 4 years agothe last ones tasted greatwere fun to make and seemed to be well-received. and while browsing the net I found a good number of interesting and nice action shots, so I think I'm set, in case someone would like a full-colour comission of that type. I'm thinking of 25-30€ a piece, depending on complexity. boy or girl or whatever, large wings would be reduced in size (or the character would rather lift off riding the top of a wave).
so, what do you guys think? :)

a family loss.
Posted 4 years agotoday is not a lucky day for me.
when I came home from work, mom told me my brother had died at the hospital earlier today. he seems to have had heart problems for a while now, but never saw a doctor for it... he went to work today, but soon saw to the hospital when things went downhill. doctors tried everything but couldn't save him. he died at the age of 53...
I try not to think about all the shit we have to figure out and everything. I feel a bit empty... and now the tears are coming. seeing my mom weep ain't easy, either.

Albert Uderzo is dead. :(
Posted 5 years agoyesterday the medias here brought the news: the artist behind Asterix is dead.
germany was always partial to french and belgian comics, so my youth consisted of many of those, including of course, Asterix. René Goscinnys writing was fun and interesting, and together with comic artists he created memorable characters, and Albert Uderzo added to it by including celebrities of french movies and TV fame; you never knew who'd show up as a side character.
I also learned a bit of latin from the books, and of course, history, as many main characters were actually historical personalities. maybe this and some other factors led to me picking up role-playing gaming, who knows...
2020 doesn't seem to be an improvement from 2019. can I have my money back?

what we see is actually ice. snow collected on the clothesline above, thawed a bit, froze solid, and as a bird jumped on it, it fell down. since the line is relatively long, it makes a bow towards the hook hanging from the balcony's edge above, about where the snow line ends, which explains the "broken track"; that comes from short pieces of ice tumbling down. the rest was just one solid piece of ice.
the fact it's not laying directly underneath the line, where thawed droplets could leave a track, threw me off.
but hey, everybody had a good time trying to eruate what has caused this. :) so, there.

final update on mom's health
Posted 8 years agoyeah well, they sent her home today. :) insurance paid for the taxi, too.
so she still has a cough, but the infection and all the mucus is gone. now she has two more pills to munch... dinner is served. XD
first thing we did was filling the dreaded laundromat. ;)life can go back to normal now.
thank you awesome people for all the well-wishes; apparently they helped.

Posted 8 years agowe went to see her today. she's still at intensive care, but awake and concious, and can talk again without drowning in mucus.
she'll have to spend some two days more there before they put her to a regular station. might take a week, or two, or more. we'll see.
at least the most grave danger is over.

Posted 8 years agoearly today they had to take my mother to the hospital with a hefty pnemonia. it had been going on for a few days, slowly getting worse until she woke up barely able to breathe. :(

she'll survive, I guess. I feel at a loss at to what to do; I have to admit I'm not very good at living on my own, mom did most household things. my brother ain't no help, either, he's doing even less things.

this artist offers experimental pencil portraits and other things for a really low price. look for yourself, I think they're on to something. :)
as it's usual with experimental stuff the result will be a surprise, but I would say it will be a pleasant one. you'll never know what the result will be like...

back from eurofurence
Posted 8 years agowell, it was a blast! exciting, exhausting, expensive...
though I didn't spend it all in the dealer's den, though. :P too much to consider. in the end I only got a few items.
like one of the painted dog preservation people's lovely teeshirts. ^^
also, some art here and there...
also, no restaurant visits. somehow the supermarket around the corner provided enough food for the day for cheap. :)
the quality of fursuits was fine, it seems to climb every year. :) I somehow missed the parade, though. (and the motorfurs made the rotunda with the artist alley shake with loudest music ever)
aside artist lounge I spend friday and saturday mostly at the artist alley. I barely sold anything, but I didn't expect any sales, so there. :) made a few new friends, though, so that makes it more than worth it. also, met many of my virtual aquaintances in real. ^^
what else? the little hotel where me and dreamfox stayed was located on the other side of the nearby Treptow park. we could either walk the whole distance, or use the train. since I could leave my art stuff at the hotel's luggage room it worked for me. ^^
last night we heard gunshots, though... but news didn't reveal anything. hope noone was hurt.
aaalso. those little note holders... 49 out of 70 were returned. also, 2 of the lost were destroyed. could you guys please destroy your own property next time? KTHXBAI
but all in all it was fun time. and next time I might have a fursuit to walk around in. :)

What is your gender?
male. I think.
Which languages do you speak?
german (native), english (fairly), a few words from various other languages.
Where will you be most of the time during the day?
artists lounge, rest of the EF, maybe you can find me going to the Dealers Den.
Who will you be with?
artists and friends. hopefully. ;) generally, people I meet.
Do you do free art?
maybe, depends on the theme and critter. it never hurts to ask, but please don't be mad if I say no.
What suit(s) will you have?
none yet. :P
Can I dance with you?
I don't dance, I don't talk, the only thing about me is the way I walk.
Can I touch you?
why would you want to? o.o
Can I talk to you?
of course. :)
Can I hug you?
no surprise hugs, pls.
Can I take photos of you/with you?
but I look terrible on photos... :0
Can I buy you lots of drinks?
alc-free ones, yes. I'm not at EF to get drunk...
Do you drink Alcohol/Smoke?
I sometimes drink alc, and never smoke.
Can I give you lots of money?
if you don't need it anymore?
Can we hang out?
I'm not a good company to hang out with. how does one hang out, anyway? sounds dangerous.
Are you nice?
find out. ^_^
Other cons you may go to?
this year it's only H-Con left.
How can I find you at the con?
if I don't forget a large badge, you can try and find me at the Artist Lounge (watch out for the guy who occupies a whole table with art supplies), or ask around. someone might knowme. :)
Can we go out for a dinner?
maybe. :)
Are you buying art?
maybe, but it's not planned.
What do I have to watch out for, when I am meeting you?
Don't be a creep.
What is the best way to contact you?
depending if I can have WLAN at the Estrel, possibly email or FA note. if not you'll have to find me. :P
May I kidnap you to my room?
if you want me to freak out...?
I have a personal question for the convention. May I ask you that?
you can always ask a question. but there won't be a guaranteed answer. :)
I'll bring those note holders, paper, and markers for the artist lounge again. so you people can make yourselves be identifiable. worked well last year... though I wonder where 26 of the holders went.
please return them after use until early sunday morning (because I'll have to depart sunday relatively early), because they are my private property. I paid money for them, they don't belong to the EF.
also, if you are bored, do something. don't pick them holders apart, please.

Merry christmas, everyone!
Posted 8 years agoit's december 24 in germany, on the evenings most families will perform the gift-giving, song-singing, dancing around the tree thing, and hopefully not drown in drama...
not me, I'm not really into it. I tend to give gifts when there is opportunity, I can't sing, and generally... but hey, have fun, gather family and friends, see people you haven't seen in a long while, and maybe call home for once if you can.
meanwhile, I had to change the waterpump of my (t)rusty old Ford that was parked downtown since last wednesday, when the freshly installed pump spilled the coolant all over the road. had to wait almost a week for replacement. could have gotten it earlier, but that's what you get for not reading everything before clicking "order now". XD
grabbed my brother and took off right after breakfast. the pump was replaced quickly, but there another problem showed up: the thermostate housing, which I had to take off last week to replace the thermostate (and had no new sealing for so I used sealing stuff) leaked, too. tried two times, came to the conclusion that corrosion must have eaten a gap out too wide to close with sealing stuff. now, no auto shop had open today, and in the end I stopped by a local Lidl and bought me a tetra-pack bottle of milk. (should have bought cookies as well, but there) cut out a sealing, and it worked.
later I did a engine-compartment cleaning at the car wash, and found out that the airblow pistol didn't work... thanks for taking my 50cent without putting up a sign. but I was lucky, there wasn't enough water in the ignition to leave me stranded once again. XD
to all a happy holiday season, and may 2017 be finally a better treat to everyone!
