"One for the Road" Uploads
Posted 2 years agoSorry for the upload spam of all 6 chapters I have so far. I really wanted to share the rest of them. There's Debris with the macro inflation, sure, but then there's also Nightgown with a more emotional guard lowering on Cody's part.
I really hope folks can read and comment on these. I rarely have personal creativity to share here -- I don't feel that my work in learning Blender, or coloring avatars, really qualifies. But this, this I can share and is important to me.

Posted 2 years agoI've been thinking about posting some progress on a story I've been writing that includes 
Glitch Hyena's character Brandon. It's a fairly long story -- as it stands, it's over 10k words across a handful of 'chapters' as separation for writing segments. Ths gist is as follows:
Cody, a coyote in his late 20s, has been abandoned at a truck stop in the far north of the continent he lives on, with no one he knows who can come help him, and a threat of being kicked out since all bunks are taken, rather than letting him sleep in a waiting area. An unusual traveler -- a timberwolf trucker made entirely of rubber and air, named Brandon -- offers him a way out: ride with him to keep him company on the long, lonely routes, and he can stay for free. Cody's existing fascination with rubbery things, plus the mire of the situation, disarms him of most inhibitions he'd have towards accepting an offer to travel, and so he joins Brandon on the treks across the continent, finding more than just friendship, but maybe a start to recovering from the trauma of what brought him there to begin with.
I've hit a rut in the writing, which I want to keep going, but I want to share what I have so far and get genuine conversation with folks about it. <3

Posted 2 years agoI'm eternally confused seeing people leaving here for Twitter...citing mature art? Like... Do y'all not see how increasingly hostile Twitter is becoming for furry in general, much less mature? It doesn't have a media gallery of any kind, making looking at your past uploads a chore.
I'm not saying to move to a Pixelfed or a Mastodon server specifically, but those two at least actually have galleries for media. It's far far more active now than it once was, so if it's users, you'll find many many there.
But I for real dun care if it's Co-host or Itaku or Weasyl or SoFurry or even elsewhere.
Just not Twitter. The like-to-engagement ratio is worse than FA and it's just actively getting worse, especially with their head wanting to strip blocking features.
If you DO want to give the fediverse a shot using Blimps, hit myself or
austindern or 
darkoverord or another friend already using it up for an invite link. I like to think our notification sound is pretty fun, and lots of nice folks locally and the entire furry fediverse abroad too. But again, my goal isn't pressuring folks to Mastodon. It's requesting them go anywhere besides Twitter.
And InkBunny cause like, if you're trying to claim you're leaving FA cause of cub stuff being aimed at non-cub and go to IB...you're not exactly supporting your own claims.

Anyway, as I posted about (and just deleted) a few years ago, I run a Mastodon instance called Blimpstodon or just blimps dot xyz. I'm on there as @KayOhtie@blimps.xyz. May have noticed I've been changing my username places at long last to reflect who I really am over who I thought I was 20 years ago.
If you're not familiar, Mastodon is one of multiple cross-compatible microblogging servers that interconnect, meaning you could follow folks from meow social, macrofurs social, yiff life, fox.yt, tiggi.es, among many others. There's a lot more furry instances now than there were when I got started. If you're looking for options, as an alternative to Twitter that feels far more organic -- more like the old web -- take a peek at the Furry Fediverse Directory run by Hack13, which has a ton of server options that are open for new registration!
Anyway: While Blimpstodon registration is currently closed, you can request an invite from someone you know who's already on there to create an account. My rules are relatively straightforward and can be summarized as "don't be hateful, don't harass people, don't be a dick, and put dicks behind a sensitive content and content warning summary". The full list is at the site and you'll be prompted to agree at sign-up. And for legal reasons, I keep accounts restricted to adults in the US.
So if you're looking for somewhere to post art and socialize and realize that the birdsite is now an absolute fucking hellhole you shouldn't touch anymore, maybe try giving the fediverse/Mastodon a try. Check out the furry fediverse website for locations, or get started on blimps through a friend! It's genuinely a very cool thing and I'm glad to see the larger network so active and thriving after launching Blimps.xyz 5 years ago. Help us keep building a social space free of ads, attention-seeking doomscroll-inducing algorithms, and hate. All of us admins are hopeful for a better future for this stuff, even if the better future isn't running the same software we are now.
