GRABBUS - New public test version!
General | Posted a year agoA new milestone has been met with my game, Grabbus!
https://grabb.us/
If you didn't know, Grabbus is an ambitious action-looter-shooter game with randomized locations and world map, and other procedural tech to enhance possibilities within gameplay.
If you like things like Binding of Isaac, Vampire Survivors, or Hades, you may want to give it a look and see if you pick up what I'm putting down.
I just added the "Evolution Grid", a specially-engineered feature only Grabbus has!
Buy "node points" using in-game currency, then invest them into the endlessly-expanding grid of passive bonuses!
There are 18 different upgrades to find scattered on the infinite grid, 9 of which have no maximum cap, and as you progress through the game, the challenge and rewards become greater!
When you fail, your challenge level reduces, so the idea is to hover around where you're most suited, gradually making your numbers go up!
There's still a lot of work to do before Grabbus is ready for the early access demo, but I have gotten the ball rolling on a Steam page!
(I want more enemy types and tilesets and items, etc.)
Also I'll be on vacation soon, visiting family for a couple weeks!
I'll be rested up and ready to tackle the immense challenge of releasing a game to Steam!! Wish me luck!

Dawmino now on Bluesky!

I did it, I made the account!
Follow if it pleases you!
I'm leaving my twitter as-is, with text posts to be deleted over time, leaving only the art. Otherwise, it will remain inactive and I'll not be visiting the site.

Status Update: A lot to talk about...
General | Posted a year ago1. The US election went worst-case. The damage that has been caused here will probably not be undone for decades, and a great deal of innocent people will suffer and die for no good reason. I have more worry for the future now than ever. I can only ask you to be strong and survive. Those who would unmake you would feast on your fear. Do not let them eat.
Use this time to grow stronger, smarter, and better.
Perhaps after today's display of rank ignorance and cruelty, you'll be less surprised by how little it takes to surpass the average person... If you are even trying, you are already there.
So imagine what could happen if you pushed your limits further! Chase something that matters to you and you might find it has a funny way of keeping you afloat through the worst.
And remember, drugs and alcohol are not for sorrow! Don't let a bad habit start from despair right when you need to be most lucid and prepared...
If you're feeling bad enough to take your own life, please don't. The fact that something like this makes you feel bad is proof of your value. Please stay with us and don't waste your chance to be happy, because there's people out there who want you to be, even if you may feel isolated.
2. Game dev is going well! I've recently added the upgrade menu to Grabbus.
There are 18 different stats to increase, some infinite, some capped, spread across an endlessly-expanding grid of claimable nodes.
This will come in a future update (or just the end-of-year demo), with tons of new sounds, bug fixes, optimizations, rule improvements, QoL improvements, SPANISH localization, with more languages incoming...
Grabbus is getting bigger and better every day, and I won't let some wrinkly, orange rat-fuck or his deluded, pissant boot-lickers psyche me out from fulfilling my destiny!
3. I've made a decision to delete both twitter/X accounts (Dawmino and Grabbus)
Grabbus will be on Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/grabbus.bsky.social
(PLEASE Follow! Development is quite active and I'm always posting about new additions as they come.)
Dawmino will be.... just here. For now anyway.
There is just no way being on Twitter is gonna be healthy after what happened. I'm not exposing myself to that, especially not while I'm trying to finish an entire video game's development. It was already a distraction.
The accounts will be gone in about a week to give people time to react.

Game Development Update #3
General | Posted a year agoJust two more months until my indie game journey -truly- begins and I blow the lid off Grabbus with an early demo!
(Visit https://grabb.us/ for more info!)
Things have been going well with development, and a new play-test version, with cheats enabled, has been released!
Until my deadline, I'll be adding as much extra content as I can to fill the existing features out!
Whatever I have by then, I wrap up and release as a demo.
I will then be using that demo to seek further funding so I can keep going full-time. Whether that involves crowdfunding, third-party, self-publishing, Steam EA, or what-have-you, I do not yet know... (Any new insight would be cool actually, I haven't gotten nearly this far before...)
It's pretty tough to promote a game these days, even if it is this ambitious! Regardless, I'm working hard to make Grabbus a very special game that will surprise people with its qualities.
Again, that website is just "Grabb.us" if you want to find out more or try the latest test build! Feedback is most welcome!

Want to try my indie game?!
General | Posted a year agoWell bam, there it is: https://grabb.us/
New video too!
A download link for the latest early test build is now available. Feel free to leave feedback if you like.
( Just keep in mind that I have worked -VERY- hard on this so far, and there's still a lot left to do! )

Status Update: Game Development #2
General | Posted a year agoI'm still hard at work on my game, Grabbus! Since my last journal, I've made great progress. A TON of sweat has gone into this.
There are less than 6 months left until I release whatever I have as a free demo, so this is the "halfway point" from when I quit my job to accelerate development.
In its current state, Grabbus is already very playable, stable, and optimized, with enough options, systems, and mechanics in place to potentially keep testers busy for a small while.
There is still a need for additional "filling" of these systems for it to reach its full potential.
More enemies, items, weapon traits, decoration, NPCs, tile sets, variations of this and that...
Commissioned original sound effects and music ARE coming in bit-by-bit and they sound great!
The next major task for demo-readiness is a tutorial. With that, I'll feel much more comfortable showing off the game in whatever low-content condition it may be in.
After THAT, it's basically a home run until demo day! I'll add as much as I can until then and wrap it up nice for you!!
Also in my plans are to get some NEW video footage out as soon as I can so more of you can see the game in motion.
I couldn't be more proud of how Grabbus is growing. Please wait patiently while I get it polished and ready for its first showing!!!

Status Update! Game Development?!
General | Posted 2 years agoAs some of you may know, I started a manufacturing job around 2 years ago to raise money to help with the (ahem... SFW) video game I've been developing as a hobby in my spare time.
As of a few days ago, I am now gainfully unemployed, with a decent end of year bonus and savings to allow me to dedicate more time to developing that game further.
Tremendous effort has been made on the foundations of this long-term project and it is now ready to enter a new phase of accelerated progress.
The majority of my time will be spent programming and making graphics and animation for this game. Toward the end of the year, I'll wrap up what I've got into a playable demo.
Look forward to Grabbus! Check out Grabb.us (yep that's the address) or Grabbus_Game on twitter
Some features include:
-Infinite world map to explore and build on, giving you permanent upgrades and materials to create helpful items
-Enter delves to experience a unique shoot-em-up-loot-dungeon full of grabbable, throwable, fusable objects, items, and enemies
-Lose loot when you perish, but if you can keep your streak going, ultimate power and challenge awaits you in the infinitely scaling difficulty system
-Enjoy a cast of cute and cool rats and goofy artificial life forms in the LIP-SYNCED cutscene engine
-Experiment with the detailed, flexible item fusion system that allows a wide plethora of shot patterns and effects to emerge on weapons, or for crafting useful items from useless ones
-And more exciting mysteries!? FIND OUT LATER!!! MAYBE SUBSCRIBE OR FOLLOW OR SOMETHING!!

Starting a New Job - Thanks for Everything!
General | Posted 4 years agoAt this point I'm pretty much in art wind-down mode. I'll be working to finish existing orders and this month's Patreon stuff, but after that it's back to drawing NOT being my job... really looking forward to that.
With my new arrangement, I should be able to better raise money, and save time, for working on my game project which is FRUSTRATINGLY CLOSE to a demo release but still needs some consistent workweeks to polish up. That will be my main priority.
The new job is still tentative, but it's an easy in.
So yeah, assuming that works out, I just wanna say thanks from the bottom of my heart for the tremendous support so far!
Wish me luck on the next step, even if we might not be meeting in this way as much from now on!
If you want to help support my game, check out https://grabb.us/ (yes that's a website) or https://twitter.com/Grabbus_Game
