Targeted destruction of food access.
The strategy is for the wealthy owners of dollar stores to deliberately open too many of them too close to full-service grocery stores, siphoning off sales from the store until it is in the red, and goes out of business. This also affects restaurants in the area.
Then closing all but one of the dollar stores, and deliberately under-staffing the lone remaining store (Dollar General). The community is left without access to healthy food; the entire area is turned into a food desert.
Do this enough times against a chain, and then the wealthy move to merge the major grocery chain with one they already own, for cheap.
Then they don't actually build any new stores. They just up the price at the remaining stores, while forcing the food desert communities to commute a long distance to get there.

Unalienable Rights - CONSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED

Rights: Principles of freedom or entitlement recognized by law, social convention, or ethics.
If politicians can take away our rights, they are not unalienable and they are not rights. We do not have unalienable rights. We have conditional privileges according to the whims of whoever currently holds the reins. If we want actual rights, we must build a system in which NO ONE has the power to take them away to begin with or, by inaction (such as a subservient Congress and ineffectual Court), enable those rights to be dismantled.
But after reading the Constitution again, it hit us, square in the face. The Constitution itself says it is our DUTY to throw off such Government that has been reduced to Despotism. The Constitution itself enshrines our rights as unalienable, and it is not for the Despots or their slavish minions to take them away. It is our right and duty to throw the despots away.
THE CONSTITUTION STATES:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,
--That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
--On it's face Trump has FAILED this one too. We're right in the middle of a fucking 'suspended in their operation' right now, and neglect is rampant among his slavish despot minions.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
--Does this one count if Congress isn't even GIVING him Laws that meet this requirement? Yes, absofuckinglutely, because it is under his direction and leadership, and his Republican Party, that are only in accomodation for very small districts of people (i.e; billionaire donors or ultrawealthy religious organizations). FAILED.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
--FAILED because he only ever calls together Republican legislatures and tells them to not even work with anyone else, Democrat or Independent. And the 'fatiguing them into compliance' sure fucking looks like what he's doing to EVERYONE.
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
-Trump now has the record of the most days of a federal shut-down of any US president in history, but it's the second part that's of most note. Regardless of dissolving the ability of representatives to do their jobs, "his invasions on the rights of the people" has been constant, multifaceted, and the only thing of any vigor he has ever done. FAILED.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
--We blame Mike Johnson, but he takes his orders from Trump. Congress is closed and Adelita Grijalva has been blocked from taking her seat in Congress. And again the second part is of most note; we sure have become in MUCH greater danger of invasion from without (foreign billionaires) and these convulsions within are due to his agencies, goons, sycophants, and propogandists. FAILED.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
--Travel bans, the overzealous enforcement of CIVIL offenses as if they were CRIMINAL offenses by ICE, we actually don't need to explain much further because "refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither" is LITERALLY what he and Republicans are doing. FAILED FUCKING FAILED.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
--Not JUST by refusing to Assent to Laws (and the scheme of not getting laws passed to him in the first place), but there's never been any figure in history that has so obstructed the Administration of Justice. FAILED.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
--His attacks on the judiciary have been abundant and plain. FAILED.
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
--DESTROYING PUBLIC LANDS (White House), swarms of ICE officers and arming them with military weaponry and MISSILES, and hollowing out of every agency. "Eat out their substance" do you remember that DOGE was originally the "Executive Office of the President"? FAILED
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

Rest assured; we certainly do. But this time we took a strategy of waiting. Letting folks have their say first; show which side of the line they are on between Freedom and Fascism.
-Several folks we followed on FA have posted journals expressing dismay at criticism against Charlie Kirk, and regurgitating the talking points of the Republican administration that seeks to martyr him.
Mistake. You don't get to rewrite how a guy lived just because of how he died.
Response: We did not counter their opinions. We simply unfollowed them. Let them be forgotten.
-Several folks across social media have attempted to wade into the swirling mire of misinformation and fish out talking points that support Republican Fascism, blasphemy laws, and the practice of doxxing.
Mistake. We live in a post-truth society where the creation of talking points that sound good, that feel right, that serve ideology first and facts second.
Response: Unfollowed, blocked, and when appropriate, discussed these people in private when they were someone we could actually do something about.
Now that it has been a week after the event, and the lawsuit against the shooter is filed and the Republican administration fell over themselves to make Charlie Kirk their very own "Reichstag Fire" (the event that gave Germany pretext to suspend civil liberties and establish Nazi Germany), now is the time to speak up and strike.
Mistake. Republicans and Maga severely overestimate the willingness of American citizens to en-mass go along with anything. For all their red-faced screaming into TikTok, crocodile tears on camera, and showy displays of hypocritical grief for a man they never cared for in life except for the votes he could deliver them by the army of aggrieved young white men that followed him (which they seek to weaponize further into 'justified retaliation')... for all of this, it hasn't actually earned them any allies. EPSTEIN lost them the conspiracy base a few months ago, and the conspiracy base is much more interested in bouncing up and down in their chairs about conspiracies about the shooting than attacking left. ISRAEL/GAZA lost them the No Violence crowd, who voted for Trump because they believed his lies about stopping the wars, and are much more interested in peace than persecuting a civil war. LA/CHICAGO/MEMPHIS lost them the National Guard and the Army, who reaaaally fucking hate being made into theatrical intimidation pawns (and not even being paid for it). ICE/IMMIGRATION lost them nearly every non-white community because they believed Trump's lies about only going after criminals. TARIFFS/FED CHAIR FIRING lost them a lot of corporate / business support because the ONLY thing they cared about was their money and now Republicans are fucking with that. INFLATION lost them the everyday working class person who's not on social media and doesn't even listen to the news because "ITS THE ECONOMY, STUPID." There is no-one new joining MAGA / Republicans to pass 'hate speech' laws, prosecute online speech, or enact violence against Liberals.
Response: Republican Overreach is going to hurt them, and the more they overreach, the worse it will be. So taunt them. Entice them. Give the Republican administration and leadership, give MAGA and supporters, as much ammunition as possible to descend into red-faced frothing rage and make more mistakes. Help them wail and caterwaul about how upset they are about people 'celebrating' Charlie Kirk's death. Destroy them in the comments, rip apart their feelings (especially because the facts don't care about their feelings!), and isolate their shitty opinions that the rest of us don't deserve to have opinions they disagree with. Get them to call for arrests to be made; make them say the words in support of doxxing and criminal punishment for free speech. It's not about them, it's about all the people who follow them, who read their words, and will be disgusted. Who will themselves quietly unfollow and block.
Why?! Why would anyone WANT people to ACTIVELY make things worse?! This is a lesson that the show Star Wars: Andor demonstrates wonderfully well, but has parallels to multiple wars the US has been in. It's about giving your enemy every opportunity to make more mistakes. In this case, if Republicans go full, violent Totalitarian before they are actually ready to do so, before they have allies supporting it, before they coerce more corporate capitulation, before the Democratic party leadership can find a way to fail to resist - there are just too many goddamn Americans in an absolutely gargantuan mass of land, across 50 independent states, for any outcome other than "I didn't vote for this." The Midterm backswing will be so outrageously Blue Wave that the damage being done might get stopped or even partially reversed. If they try to 'cancel' the midterms? Good, do it, see how badly THAT goes too. Another mistake, to encourage our enemy to make.

Trans rights are human rights. Being a Trans person in the US is to be, now, the #1 most at-risk and persecuted person in the country. Charlie Kirk's assassination showed us that the Republican administration had a plan ready to go to justify the further weaponization of our justice system, attack dissent as treason, and get social media platforms to capitulate and obey their desire to sanitize the internet that does not obey their view of total rule. Charlie Kirk in life meant nothing to them other than the transactional relationship they had with him - propaganda mouthpiece. In death, Charlie Kirk is so much more useful to them. He's their Reichstag Fire. He's their Martyr. He's the Suit-And-Tie Nazi they can hold signs and vigils for because of how he looked and the way he said things without being held responsible for what he meant.
We have been warning and informing others about Charlie Kirk for as long as he and Turning Point USA have been known. Unfortunately for Charlie Kirk himself, he did not heed any of the warnings about why what he was doing and how he was doing it was a stupid fucking idea. The millions he made, the political power he was adjacent to, the support from billionaires to make for them the army of aggrieved young white men to keep up the distractionary culture war bullshit, depended on him doubling down, tripling down, on the very speech and actions that create stochastic terrorism. The idea that influential individuals may demonise target groups, inspiring unknown actors to take up violence against them. That's the thing about creating an army of aggrieved young white men - IF YOU RECRUIT SOLDIERS FOR YOUR CULTURE WAR, IT ONLY TAKES ONE OF THEM TO SHOOT YOU DEAD.
Charlie Kirk is a man who's death was a shocking and disturbing thing to see, at a lizard-brain level below empathy or sympathy. To see a person become unmade in an instant, no longer a person, is never welcome and not how we as a society should strive to live. But this is exactly the society that Charlie Kirk himself championed. Only he never thought that he personally would pay that price he said was worth it. I am not happy that a man died, but the way you die does not justify nor rewrite anything about how you lived.

General | Posted 3 months agoFor work, we had a team exercise of using AI (copilot, specifically) to tell us our superpowers. Sure, fine, a dumb wall of text, screenshot, post, move on.
But it kept going. So we refused to participate.
Respectfully, as a person who works with real artists, manages communities of artists, and is intimately familiar with the plagiarism issue with AI-generated images, I will decline from creating or engaging with any AI-generated image programs. The AI image generators only function because they plagiarize millions upon millions of images and produce outputs based on the training data fed into them without consent by any of the artists. The broad consensus across the art community is the underlying purpose of AI image generators is to "Allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth."
The plagiarism inherent into AI art is not the only issue. There's also the issue of displaying the artwork produced by AI. Artists depend entirely on attention and commissions. AI art is literally taking both away. Artists are is hopeful that people will see their artwork. The more AI art gets generated, the less likely someone will become a commissioner, paying the artist those meager wages they need to live and keep creating.

The plagiarism inherent into AI art is not the only issue. There's also the issue of displaying the artwork produced by AI. Artists depend entirely on attention and commissions. AI art is literally taking both away. Artists are is hopeful that people will see their artwork. The more AI art gets generated, the less likely someone will become a commissioner, paying the artist those meager wages they need to live and keep creating.

For decades now, it's been largely observational evidence that news outlets that cater to conservatives and right-wing political ideologies is not based on facts. Most of them claim to fall under 'entertainment' for legal purposes, and stick to being classified as 'entertainment' even when taken the court. Many folks know that when Fox News and Tucker Carlson was taken to court, Fox won the suit with the claim that "given Mr. Carlson's reputation, any reasonable viewer arrives with an appropriate amount of skepticism about the statements he makes. This general tenor of the show should then inform the viewer that he is not stating actual facts about the topics he discusses and is instead engaging in exaggeration and non-literal commentary."
But now, we have facts. Actual empirical research that shows that right-wing news sources and the entire ecosystem of conservative 'news', functions neither as news, nor as entertainment.
It functions as religion.
Boomers are the primary consumers of right-wing news. This aging and increasingly lonely population seek community, nostalgia, and cultural and political vitality, while also maintaining outsized control of the news and our political system. Right-wing news caters to them, and right-wing spaces provide them meaningful collective identity and community. Do you know any non-Boomer consumers of right-wing news?
The decline of religion overall across the U.S allows political media (OF ALL TYPES) to fill that void. Social capital has shifted from offline to online, and right-wing communities which are more often based on shared ideology and ethnic/religious identity fills this void very successfully. Do you know of any Churches that now focus entirely on politics?
Mis/disinformation survives and thrives as religion. When questions stem from religious belief instead of actual fact-finding, no amount of finding evidence to the contrary successfully resolves the question. Questions like "was the 2020 election fraudulent?" and "is climate change real" survive because those who ask those questions are more likely to be reaffirming their position in the religion and their status compared to other believers than seeking any actual definitive factual answer. Do you know someone who keeps asking the same kinds of political questions as if they were an actual skeptic and not a denier?
Faith-based approaches to knowledge and truth claims are much more susceptible to propaganda because the approach aims to build and reinforce a strong moral subculture rather than to inform, and are much more prone to rapid organizational change, instability, and schisms. The way right-wing 'news' consumer communities function is identical to how Church Sects work, with their dynamics of competition, decline, and growth. Are you familiar with any right-wing communities that mirror the 'pastor-flock' framework?

Herm was removed from the dropdown, but it's still a tag and can be added manually
No-one who self-identifies as herm is being silenced, and we're not being forced to identify as intersex either
We don't use the dropdowns anyway, everything is manually input (thanks Postybirb) so not being included in a drop-down does not feel like inequality to us.
Now, so long as FA does not go the route of e621 and in searches start showing results for "herm" as if we had searched "gynomorph", and start showing search results for "herm" as if we had searched "intersex" (because herm /=/ intersex and generally neither wants to be identified as the other because we are not the same), it should continue to be fine.

2018 Furry Zoosadist Leaks
September 2018, leaked telegram chats and other evidence showcased a group of animal abusers.
As part of that group of animal abusers, one zoosadist was outed by amatuer furry investigator Naia Okami https://www.imdb.com/name/nm13377006/
So what is this show?
Naia Okami has much more publicity than that one investigation. She has been on dozens of shows and TV bits and is a highly public figure, or at least is marketed as one.
This show largely centers around Naia Okami and the Zoosadists, elevating Naia into further representing the Furry community, and portraying animal abusers also as representative of the Furry community.
How should I feel about this
Looking into this show and into Naia, we have two feelings.
First, Naia is pretty cool, EXCEPT for the extremely un-cool overinvolvement in media showcasing herself as representative of Furries / Otherkin. It's not that she's never claimed she is representative, it's more that constantly going out into mainstream media (such as Fox News' Jesse Watters THREE TIMES) is effectively making her representative of Furries.
Second, we feel that it is at best idiotic and at worst self-aggrandizing to make an entire "true crime" series starring yourself going up against a conspiracy of animal abusers and doing so using unrelated footage of innocent fursuiters from Anthrocon 2024 and San Francisco Pride FROM WHOM NO PERMISSION WAS EVER ASKED to make a show for non-furries to think that animal abusers are even a tiny fraction of the furry community!
So, like, yeah who you are is cool, what you do for your nonprofit is cool, but this is so fucking un-cool and yet another "thing to point at" by non-furs that all furries are going to regret.

A blue-suited lawyer marches out in between the lines of soldiers. Briefcase in hand, papers in the other. He turns his back to Elon's compound, where the man is surrounded by his children and bribewives. His final defense against the end of his billions.
The lawyer? Elon's final attack. Lorum Ipsum text visible on every camera pointed towards him, capturing the moment he stares down the barrel of an ICE-issued rifle carved with the symbol of the Punisher, dripping fresh with red, white, and a single line of blue. Shaking the papers and opening his mouth as he looks into the reflective sunglasses on the soldier's face.
"This is unprecedented!" shouts the lawyer, trying to be heard. Both Elon and King Trump are watching; one through CCTV and the other through Fox News showing live. He needs to make it a good show. Elon has promised him a darling media career if he can appear to be the Lawyer Who Stood For Their Client. His words didn't matter as long as they sounded potent. Legalese. No sane lawyer had been willing to represent Elon in months.
As legalese spills from his unnaturally long-jawed mouth, his eyes briefly flicker to the tank behind the soldier. He's not looking at the rifle anymore; and he can't hear himself shouting over the tank's hungry growling. The pavement of the road beneath it's tracks are being smushed to either side of it like old, black ketchup. He drops his briefcase and dives out of the way.
The cameras roll as the tank makes a show of smashing over Elon's gilded gate. The painted symbol of the Punisher visible to the cameras on the side of the tank, dripping fresh with red, white, and a single line of blue.
