Updates n' tings
Posted 5 years agoHeck, it's been a while since I updated!
I've been busy in the interim. I finished my costume coursework, got two small degrees out of that (dip and ad dip), then did my secondment ant opened my small business last year. Got to work on two films, both of which will come out this year and then I can talk about that more. Graduating after acing the secondment (WOO 90% and a HD beachessssss) later this year.
... and of course my health sucks now, so I've finally gotten off my arse and am seeing some specialists to hopeuflly find my new normal and get me some diagnoses. Currently on a medical certificate and unable to work, but it's given me some time at least to do some work for myself. I'm making myself a werewolf suit, which I've been wanting to do for ages. I'm also working slowly on some premades and some rando bits and pieces.
Anyway, hi again! Still around, getting old and making stuff.

Third year - COMPLETE
Posted 7 years agoI finished my third year at uni, so now all that's standing in between me and my BPA is an industry secondment, essentially a 4-6 week unpaid assessed internship that I get marked on later. After that, I'll have my third costuming qualification and a nice industry contact, if all goes well!
Man, I'm exhausted though. Got my final marks back today - got a HD for both my tailoring fitting and the suit itself, so very happy with that! 2 Ds and a C for the remaining stuff, so thats good too. Phew.
Now - finish the commission I've got outstanding (almost done. yay!), get a costume together for my favourite Gcon in Jan, and get stock together so I can make my online store much cooler.

Patreon is happening!
Posted 8 years agoI'm creating a patreon for my costuming and fursuiting stuff. I'll be in third year at WAAPA and my financial situation is tightening. I figure if people want to help out and see what I'm up to a bit more frequently they can drop me a few bucks and help get me through. Link will go up on my main page as soon as it goes live.
On holidays! Time to work work work!
Posted 8 years agoFinally! Uni is out for the year and I can get on to my projects. I'm hoping to work on my unicorn, hellcat and toony dragon partials, as well as a commissioned piece maybe.
The unicorn and dragon will be eventually for sale, and I'm hoping to also make some individual pieces like tails to sell, probably in my movement tail style. I might even see if I can fur up some of my headbases too, why not. Be nice to just dive back into it!

Commission closing date - 7th October
Posted 8 years agoGet in your quote requests if you're interested in my commission slot for the end of this year, I'll be messaging everyone to ask if they're locking in their request and will choose the piece I'd like to work on based on that list. If you haven't locked in your interest by the 7th next saturday you'll have to wait until I next open up for a shot at a commission.
Got some really amazing refs and ideas so far! Loving the creativity of folks round these parts :)

ONE head/partial slot open now for the end of year
Posted 8 years agoRight! I am officially putting out the call - I am open for one commission to start during the end of year break and finish either february (if possible) or mid year break next year.
Get in early if you're interested, I'd like to have materials in hand to get a head start on the build which means ordering ASAP. Most of the longer wait on my last commissioned mask was waiting for materials!
Details: I will make one detailed mask, or one less detailed partial costume (that's head, hands, feet and tail). Options include (but are not limited to) resin or foam headbase, scratch-built custom foam, moving jaw, inner mouth jawset and tongue, horns, whiskers, small armour/jewelry pieces, fans, simple LEDs, swaying/bouncing tail core, airbrushing and hairwork.
If you are interested, please message me or even comment here for a quote based on your specifications. I prefer to see concept art but I'm also happy to consult to get you what you're after.
As I can only take one commission, I'll pick the one I think I can do the best work on if I get multiple interested people.
Thanks!

One commission slot open for the end of the year
Posted 8 years agoHi folks!
I enjoyed working on Snow so much at the beginning of this year that I'd like to open for one slot, same deal as last time. One detailed head or one less detailed partial suit, to be done if possible before february but possibly completed mid-year next year in uni holidays if it's a complex build. Same deal as the original picpost: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/21800147/
Questions welcome :)

holidaaays! Heee!
Posted 8 years agoFinally on half yearly uni break! Of course, it wouldn't be a holiday without wanting to do heaps of costume work, even though that's literally all I've been doing all semester. Made some cool stuff at uni, did productions of Lord of the Flies (was dressing supervisor), Dance (was costume supervisor. Power!) and 42nd st (normal crew, yay). Damn fine shows. Also made bits of a tutu which will be finished next semester, a complete 1840s style corset, crinoline and petticoat and a fully makeable 1940's Dior styled coat dress toile complete with panniers.
Holy crapballs, it's been a long, stressful semester. That said, it's really lovely to be getting into some of my own work again, of course finishing off my commission piece is first off the bat, though I'm also working on a few fun things too. All will probably go on sale as they finish except my kitty cat and the quick Maudie costume I hope to put together (you know, the nurse/cook lady from disney's Brave).
Working on a unicorn partial, a cute toony dragon partial, finishing off my scaled dragon mask, maybe making a few tail armatures to sell or cover and sell (my special movement armatures that are light and have heaps of both bounce and lateral movement without looking like a limp sock) and maybe even doing a couple cat masks for funsies.
Working holiday - works for me :P

Work feels good!
Posted 8 years agoGoodness, it's been too long since I really got stuck into a fursuit-type project. I'm so glad to be working on a head again, and it's great that it's for someone I know! Not only that but I've gone on a bit of a headbase spree, I've sculpted the dragon one so I'm making a mask out of one of those, then I'm doing up a toony dragon on a stuffed panda base, two kitty masks from some awesome Crystumes blanks and a crow and horse/unicorn thing coming. So danged awesome. Very tempted to do a very traditional unicorn in antron fleece with fur accents.
Watch this space, kiddos - lots of cool mask work coming up soon :)
well, until uni starts, that is, then it's nose to the grindstone on that. Still so lovely to have projects to work on though. Commission first! :)

Second call for takers for speed fursuit commission slot
Posted 9 years agoSo far I've got one possible taker for my commission slot - any more interest?
I think I forgot to mention that this is a fast-completion commish, I go back to uni in february so it'd have to be done or VERY close to done by then, so not only is it for a cool amount of detail, it's also good for rush jobs!

Fursuit head commish slot - possible. Interest?
Posted 9 years agoHey all you fab fuzztypes.
As some of you may know I've been studying costume for the last year (and will continue for a couple years), but my workload has been huge so I've not had much time to work on any stuff for myself, let alone commissions. I do, however, have a large chunk of holidays at the end of the year and I'm considering taking on one commission only during that period. I'd be willing to do either one very detailed fursuit head OR one moderately detailed partial suit only.
My costuming skills and time management have improved vastly since I've been doing this course, and barring any theatre work I may get that'd make this a no-go - any sort of interest from anyone? Keep in mind this won't open until my course work is complete (late november) and I'd only take on something I believe I could do a really nice job on.
That said, check out my latest costume stuff if you're interested, I'm loving learning this new stuff - heck, they teach us to make hats and silk flowers and everything. It's awesome :D

Costumes, costumes, costumes
Posted 10 years agoCostuming has always been my life, really. I've made them as long as I can remember and finally I'm going to try to turn that into something I can use as a career. Last year I applied, interviewed and was accepted for a place in the WAAPA (WA academy of performing arts) to study costume. I'm really excited, it's a difficult course to be accepted into and I can't wait to fill in all the gaps in my experience and hopefully build a lot of connections in the biz.
Alongside that, I've been working on a lot of costume stuff myself, after having finished the Space Pope earlier in 2015 (which kinda kick-started this whole chain of events) I started the Hellcat which is inching closer and closer to completion. I'm also working on a Jawa from Star Wars because I am a massive nerd and of course have a massive list of side projects because I am normal.
Just nice to know that life can kinda throw you a bone sometimes, now I've just gotta take that bone and make something delicious.

Dragon bust sketches
Posted 11 years agoI always love doing sketches of dragon faces, particularly detailed ones with scale patterning. I'd like to offer some on a commission basis, 3 slots to start with. Examples:
Armoured dragon
Scaly dragon
Falli face
sketchpad dragon
So if you want me to draw your dragon character or just draw you a cool dragon, note me! Feel free to ask for specific features or scale shapes, I'll do my best to accomodate.I'll do my best to accommodate. I'll price these at $15, though as with anything if it's a particularly tricky or intricate design I'll quote you. Should be fine though, I'd say only the Sketchpad dragon in the examples above would be more than the base price :)
I'm also open to any other non-stressful commissions, and may even be making some small fursuit pieces to sell. I've been invited to go to Japan with two friends for my 30th birthday next year, and as I'm a poor pensioner I need to save a lot of cash. If you'd like something small, do ask - I'll do my best to accomodate you as I really do need the money right now!

Commission info
Posted 11 years agoSo I've been doing some small commissions for people and I've been really enjoying it. I've decided to open for limited commission slots based on what I know I can deliver with my current life load.
I'll break it down like this:
I'll have five slots up at any one time, normally. I'll probably start keeping track on my frontpage to avoid journal spam. Larger commissions will take up more slots than smaller ones. A digital painting or complex colour piece might take up 2 slots, something really complex and time consuming might take up three. Sketches won't take up a slot unless they're particularly detailed or needing a lot of extra time.
My prices I'll keep to the ranges stated in my old commission price guide - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6506939/
I'll update it at some point but let's give it a go for now. :)
I will only take on commissions if I feel I can do them justice, I can complete them quickly and with low stress.
Thanks!

Weasyl
Posted 11 years agoI'm not moving, but I am unhappy about this recent stuff. I'm a survivor of those kinds of... allegations. I never got any sort of justice because of the same reasons. Yes, I'm being vague, because apparently people who are specific are being censored. So, yeah.
Very. Very. Uncool.
I'm making a Weasyl account out of solidarity more than anything, but leaving here would be ultimately a waste of time. One less disapproving voice and one less drop in the veritable ocean that ultimately is the art site that everyone uses. Same username over there if you feel like visiting.
Still have those five slots open for small art if anyone feels like it :)

Five small art commission slots - open
Posted 11 years agoHey all - as I've been wanting to get back into drawing for people but don't have time to take on large pieces, I'm opening for five small art commission slots only. If they go well I'll open for more.
You can choose to have a small piece (head or bust) in simple colour, a full body character sketch or a small piece in lineart. Each of those will set you back $15 for now. That's Aussie dollars, might as well start using my local currency too!
I'll update this post with slots as soon as they fill up.
Thanks,
-Falli :)

Life
Posted 12 years agoWelp. It's been an interesting time.
My little one is a year old now, he's great. Most other stuff isn't great. I've been separated from my former husband for almost a year now. It wasn't a good relationship. Abusve, nasty... and he's still trying to make my life hell. I've been living with my parents, who are also not very fantastic people, so things have been rather hard. I had to withdraw from a lot of places that I could socialise, so I'm slowly trying to rebuild some of my past friendships and find some stability.
Thankfully, I've just managed to find a new place to live for myself, my little squishy man and a friend, so hopefully things will improve slowly to the point where I'm me again.
Oh well, gotta love life. Hi FA peeps, I'm still alive :)

Home! Brought a little friend, too.
Posted 13 years agoWell, I'm out of hospital and we managed to successfully evict the tenant that's been causing heck in my tummyspace since july odd last year. Little bugger broke the plumbing the day we confirmed an induction, had to be on his terms, of course. Little sod :P
In any case, we made a little guy! Matthew was born at 6:22am on march 14th and is a ridiculously good looking baby. ... I usually hate babies, but he makes me go all gooey :)
I won't post any pics to my gallery here for obvious reasons, but I've got one or two elsewhere:
Only a few hours old!
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a3.....r/Matthew2.jpg
Same time, with me. (Totally and utterly exhausted, heh.)
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a3...../MeMatthew.jpg
A few days ago - had the hiccups. This happened after every single one.

Cute little guy, eh? Happy mum, in any case.

Absence + imminent spawning
Posted 13 years agoI really haven't been able to hop online much, and all the weird stuff going on with my body has meant I'm unable to do much at all. I've only got a couple of weeks to go before evicting the little guy from my tummyspace (unless he decides to vacate early) so it's pretty hard not to be totally proccupied by that!
Being pregnant is freaking WEIRD. Kinda awesome in an extremely bio-med sciency nerdy kind of way, but the pain and the weirdness of it all is pretty... unpleasant. I've had no end of complications from my joint/ligament hypermobility, so I'm in constant pain and basically can't get comfortable no matter what I do, my pelvis is falling apart. YAYNESS.
Anyway, I won't go into the hilariously gory details (I save that for creeping out younger friends and relatives :D), suffice to say I'll be gone a bit longer to give me time to remove and establish a care routine for the little sprog.
Also, whoever says pregnancy is wonderful and magical and empowering and spiritual are goddamned liars. It's painful, annoying, hilarious, profoundly uncomfortable, maddening, entirely physical and OBSCENELY biological. It is, also, pretty cool in the end. Just... yeah. :)

Reference sheet questions - colouring?
Posted 13 years agoHey all, this is for artists and fursuit makers mostly, though input from commissioners would be valuable too :)
Character reference sheets. For an artist or suit maker, they're basically a character template showing body shape, markings and colour boundaries. For a commissioner, they're another piece of cool art that you commission that should look as good as anything else you have - right?
Huge disparity there. As an artist, I actually hate getting sheets with shading! Cel-shading can sometimes mimic colour changes in the character, and any other kind can be seen as a gradient. I mean, it depends hugely on the sheet and the artist who's created it, but in most cases I'm happiest with a flat coloured, simple sheet that clearly shows what's required. I mean - I'm not going to assume that the character is two dimensional based on a flat coloured sheet :|
So - am I alone in this? Do other artists like the clarity of simple refs, or prefer somehting prettier to look at? Do commissioners really hate the simpler flat style, or do they understand why it could be important?
