Reminder: Shirt Preorders Closing Soon!
General | Posted 7 years agoHey All! My Egyptian "Amduat" shirt preorders are nearly over.
I realize I forgot to specifically note when preorders were closing on these: they close Thursday evening! That means if you're interested, you have about 48 hours to get an order in.

General | Posted 7 years agoHi Friends!
Sorry I haven't been very active here. It's been a tumultuous season for me so far, a side job just ended and I was hoping to get right back into the swing of things but it took me until today to finally realize something was up.
The current political climate is scary for us folks who have been abused, especially women and female identifying folks. Just in the past two weeks I've been told it's "my fault for not reporting" (his exact words) my abuse and had a boss of mine make a disparaging joke at the expense of the #metoo movement on stage, in front of countless victims he employs.
I am forcibly reliving some past trauma over these past few weeks, and as a result having to confront some suppressed memories and emotions I'd rather not confront, while also having to face the fact that if I were to be open about them I would be flamed and harassed at best and at worst, I would sacrifice my personal safety.
If I haven't responded to your notes or messages, please just be patient with me while I try to relax and adjust. Things are scary, and I'm trying to surround myself with small comforts to ride it out. I'm posting small Inktober doodles over on my twitter @ Inkmavenart to keep myself sharp, and commission work will resume soon.
Thanks for your support guys, you're awesome 💙

Post-FurSquared Update!
General | Posted 8 years agoHey everyone! Here's a bit of an update on everything in my life over the past little while, that's relevant to you guys. Apologies in advance, because this might get long winded :,D
FurSquared Post-Mortem
I'm back from FurSquared, which is one of two smaller local cons that I attend. Last year I was in the artist's alley and did pretty well, this year was my first year in the den. I wasn't really sure what I was expecting, but it totally blew all my expectations out of the water. Like dang. I'm completely out of some of my stock, and other items I need to reorder anyway because I'm running so low. People were also really excited about Amduat, so I'm going to push that into print as both metallic inked prints and wall scrolls. To the 6 people who picked up a metallic print at the con, those will be the first and the last of the handmade versions, so you have a limited edition print! I might make one more for a friend, and then I'm never doing that again (one so you guys have something special, and two to automate the process a bit more on my end).
As for the con itself, sales aside--it was really, really great getting to meet some of you I hadn't seen in person before, and also really fantastic talking to some repeat customers! I'm starting to recognize people's human faces and not just their badges/characters. Thank you to every single one of you who stopped by to chat and made my day a bit brighter. You really made the con something special for me, as it fell right in the middle of a fairly stressful point in my life.
Commission Update
Speaking of stressful point in my life... I feel like I need to offer a bit of context about commission work, timeframes and etc. moving forward. I've bolded a TL;DR at the end if you just want the nitty gritty of it, but I feel the need to offer a longer explanation simply to be candid and open about everything that's caused a bit of a recent slow down.
I've cleared all work off my queue except MFF commissions, a few badges and some commission work for friends. I really want to stress how thankful I am for everyone's patience with me right now, because my productivity has definitely slowed down in recent months. Thankfully, I know why and I'm taking the proper steps to fix it.
I took on a major contract with a game company in December, which was the start of my queue stressors because I took this contract due to a need for money, but I also had a full queue of furry work here as well. I tried to juggle the two for a while which was fine until MFF came around. I put a lot of money into new merchandise, expecting that I would make that money back at the con and due to external circumstances outside my control (largely how the den was organized this year, I think) I didn't make near the sales numbers I thought I would. In order to make sure I was not severely in the red for the con, on Saturday I started to take digital commission work which I have never done at a con before. I was expecting to be paid by the end of January for the contract work I had done which caused the backup in the first place, but that didn't actually happen until today, more than two months after completing the contract work.
I'm getting long winded here, but several circumstances came together to create the perfect storm, making it a very rough start of the year for me financially. On top of it all, for the past month or so I've been struggling with some grief and frustration about a personal situation I've never dealt with before. I'd have daily anxiety spikes, found myself crying several times a week and was really struggling to focus on anything for long periods of time. I was constantly exhausted and woke up tired on a daily basis, on top of being in a financial bind I could do nothing about except just wait.
Thankfully, both of those issues are starting to be resolved--between F2 and getting my contract check today my financial worries are all but gone, and I'm starting to work through my grief and move on but for a while I was pretty slammed with a lot of things I didn't know how to handle and ended up being pretty seriously depressed.
The TL;DR of this all is: If you have an outstanding commission with me, thank you for your patience. I am so so grateful at how kind and understanding you've all been. Things should slowly start to speed up once I recover from con crud/exhaustion. However, please also know that at any point, I'm willing to offer a refund if the wait is just too long for you. I will never be offended if you'd like to pull off my queue.
Things going forward should be a lot less bogged down as I clear through some stresses.
Thanks for reading!

Update; ToS Change (Please Read)
General | Posted 8 years agoFirst thing's first, I'm back from FC where GoldenDruid and I shared a table in the den. It was a lot of fun and I'd love to go next year! My shirts sold really well which I was not expecting but am very happy for, and I also participated in an art show for the first time which was fun. Met and roomed with some really fabulous people.
Today, I am taking stock and packing away my merchandise again, as well as taking some time to relax. It was a long hard weekend and while I thoroughly enjoyed myself, it was a lot of work too.
Secondly, I have an important ToS change to make everyone aware of, due to some recent and very frustrating circumstances. I was going to make a post about this a while ago but I've been having a hard time figuring out how to word this. Regardless, I think it's important for me to update you guys whenever I have a change to the way I operate, in this case, specifically with regard to communication.
Below are two relevant sections, the first has not been changed and the second is a new addition:
• The Artist (Inkmaven) reserves the right to send a refund/cancel a commission due to poor communication, rude or inappropriate behavior, or inability to communicate effectively.
• The Client (commissioner) agrees to only contact the artist about business related questions or requests via email or in some situations, Notes. Communication via IM or other channels is strictly prohibited. For various commission openings, the artist may post a list of acceptable communication methods.
The TL;DR: Effective Immediately, I am no longer accepting ANY commission info via IM (twitter, telegram) OR any messaging service that uses read receipts (allows you to see when other person has viewed your message).
Due to several recent harassment issues, I am officially putting my foot down and taking a hardline stance on where and how I can be contacted about commissions. I realize this is inconvenient for my friends and repeat clients, but I ask that no matter who you are, no matter how well you know me, that you respect these new terms. The absolute best way to contact me about commissions is via email, inkmavenart @ gmail [dot] com. I use this email exclusively for business.
If you have an outstanding commission where you were contacting me via notes, telegram, or twitter please email me if you have any concerns. I will leave my notes open for a short period of time to complete current work, and then I will likely disable them.
Thank you for understanding.

Mass upload done; Thanks for bearing with me!

Mass Upload Incoming!

Update! MFF, FC, Holidays
General | Posted 8 years agoThis update is coming about a week later than it probably should have, but I've been busy since MFF! Either way I thought I would write one up to give you a bit of an idea of what's keeping me busy these days.
First off, I'm back from MFF. I purchased a LOT of new stock (the new t-shirts went over particularly well) and I'm working on getting a webstore online so that I can sell there also. Keep an eye out for that because I'll certainly be advertising it! As far as con plans go I'll be at Further Confusion in January so look for me in the Dealer's Den there if you'll be attending!
Commission wise, I'm slowly but surely cranking out work, even though it might not look like it from my inactivity on here. A lot of my work has either not been posted by me lately (I'm kind of waiting to see if the upload troll issue slows down or stops), or I will be posting it after the holidays. I'm also doing some contracted work for companies outside the fandom, and that work always comes first as it's my real 'job'. This contracted work is what pays the majority of my bills, and it may slow down my productivity here from time to time, just like any other part time job.
And of course with the holidays coming up, things are always a bit hectic! They should hopefully be relaxing though. The weather around here has been pretty crazy, snow on and off, some weirdly warm days thrown in between. I think it's finally calmed down though.
What's the thing you look forward to most about the holidays? I think this year, I'm really looking forward to visiting my family (and seeing my kitty <3) as well as my mom's delicious gingerbread cookies. Yumm.

Is USUM Worth Getting?
General | Posted 8 years agoJust musing about some things today.
I picked up Sun because the nostalgia is strong with this one. I thought it was okay, but I think I'm starting to really... Not be the target audience for pokemon anymore which is sad, because I really enjoy those games. But the cutscenes drew out a bit slow and I sometimes felt like the game was treating me like an 8 year old (not surprising for a franchise I started to play around age 6)
I'm tempted to pick up one of the new games, especially since I should (in theory) have some time to relax around the holidays... But I'm usually pretty turned off by the 'same song second dance' type pokemon games (with the exception of the ruby and sapphire remakes, those were fabulous~)
Aside from that, anyone have any suggestions for handheld games to get this season? I have a 3DS and a switch.Commission Update! Holidays and MFF
General | Posted 8 years agoHey everyone!
Hope November is treating you well so far. I have another small update for everyone on commissions and the like. All remaining Inktobers have been added to my queue, so if you're waiting on one you can now find it on My Trello.
It's almost Thanksgiving and as such I'll be going home for a while. I'm going to make it a working holiday, because of that some things are going to get shuffled around a bit out of necessity. Until the end of the week, all digital art on my queue is going to be a priority, while I'm home and have access to my computer. Then from Wednesday on out for the rest of the week I'll swap back to traditional work, since I can more easily transport that home to work.
I'm changing my angle/workflow a bit as well, in order to streamline things a bit more. In the past I started commissions and worked on one until it was finished, at this current time I'm going to sketch everything on my queue, send the sketches out for approval, and then move down the line refining everything. I think this will help keep everything moving, and it will mean in general a quicker turnaround time for everyone, I think.
ALSO As previously mentioned in a couple of journals, I'll be at MFF and in the Dealer's Den this year! I love meeting you guys in person so if you have time or are able, totally stop by and say hi :) I'll have two tables, G-19 and 20 or you can look for me on the con listing as "Inkmaven Art". I'll be selling prints, stickers, lanyards, shirts, wall scrolls, and handmade pencil pouches. I will also have some of MauAbata's leatherwork at my table, in the form of collars and cuffs. So a pretty big and somewhat random assortment of goods, but I hope you guys like it!
I'll make an official 'where to find me' post later on this week with pictures and whatnot, so you can easily find my booth :)
Thanks for reading! As always, you guys are awesome.

Soft Commission Opening [2 Slots Open]
General | Posted 8 years ago
I'm back on track after a short break! While I wanted to do a bigger, more official commission opening this month I don't think I'll have the energy thanks to con and holiday stuff. As such, I'll be doing a limited, kind of unofficial (soft) opening.
This is not first come first served, I will be picking the commission ideas that appeal most to me/seem like they would fit best into my current schedule. Another caveat of course is that I do still have work on my queue, and that will be started before anything from this opening is. However, if you're willing to be a bit patient with me throughout this busy season, this is a great opportunity to get an illustration from me!
If you'd like to submit a commission request, please fill out the form here: http://inkmaven.art/commissions
If you have questions feel free to shoot me a note! I'll leave the form live until at least noon my time tomorrow to let responses trickle in.
sdfksdfksjdf Poll! Need Opinions!
General | Posted 8 years agoThis is mildly spoilery and something I was trying to keep as a surprise but I realized I'm 48 hours from my print deadline so!! I gotta KNOCK THIS ONE OUT OF THE PARK here real quick.
I have a new shirt design that I'm trying (hoping?) to get printed before MFF so I can sell em at my table. I did some really rough mockups of the color today to get the ball rolling as a warm up before other work. So here's my question to you, and the poll:
https://twitter.com/inkmavenart/sta.....50172366737409
There are two images in the tweet above, each with 3 different background (shirt) colors. If you have a twitter, could you cast a vote for your favorite of each group? If you don't have a twitter feel free to comment your preferences here! I'd still love to hear from you.
Thank you so much!!
As a side note, Thank you to everyone who commented on my last journal <3 you had some wonderful suggestions, I haven't had the time to respond to you all but I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts! It was really interesting and cool to see how everyone chose to relax/de-stress.In Need of Some Self-Care.
General | Posted 8 years ago
A lot has been going on for me recently, I've been kind of poofy here because of it and I apologize! Just another small update.
Last week was a whirlwind, and I overextended. What I planned to be an uneventful work week was anything but and I ended up putting a lot of time into caring for and worrying about others, setting aside my own needs and wellbeing in the process. Normally this wouldn't have been an issue but I was already extremely low on energy, so the timing wasn't good which I didn't realize until it was too late to fix. Now at the beginning of the new week, I have very little energy to spare. This has been a lesson for me, it's important to remember it's hard to help others when you aren't feeling well/at your best. I'm very exhausted and despite having a lot I really need to get done today, I need to take some time for myself I don't hit a wall.
This might be a little personal rather than professional, but you guys are great and I feel like I need to just be real with you every once and a while.
On a related, but somewhat side note, what are some of your favorite things to do to take care of yourself? What do you do to relax, unwind, and reset? I'd love to hear. Any favorite hobbies, foods or snacks, shows, something else?
Queue/Work Update!
General | Posted 8 years agoHey Everyone!
It's time for me to admit I've had a bit too much going on with commissions, real life, and personal health. I've been doing okay clearing work off my queue but there are a few smaller things that I've had slip through the cracks, varying from small commissions to gifts and trades with friends.
Those small things should now be on my queue, ones that need more immediate attention have been moved to the main column and are marked paid (green), in progress (yellow), and high priority (orange).
Besides Inktober commissions (which are my immediate priority after orange tagged work) if I owe you something that is NOT currently on my queue, please shoot me a note or PM and let me know! I'll get you added and get it taken care of as I clear things off my list in the first portion of this month.
Thanks so much <3

Stardragons and Other Characters for Sale
General | Posted 8 years agoHeyoo, I decided it's time for me to purge a few characters I've been holding onto for a while. I need some extra funds to make new orders of merchandise for upcoming cons.
Available Stardragons:
Shooter: https://toyhou.se/1358243.tbn/gallery ($105) Comes with 5 pieces of art and a subtle edit/redesign by me. Has rare tail plates. [rehomed]
Jade: https://toyhou.se/1397399.jade ($185) Weaver, dropped her price a bit because I'd really like to see her go to a new loving home. **Has two alternate palettes available for use seen here. I made her MYO ref so I can change the name on it if you'd like. [on hold: 40/185 paid]
I need to get rid of these two gals for sure, but I may add more later.
Other Characters for Sale:
Alexandria https://refsheet.net/Ink/alexandria Beautiful Lykoi cat lady. Has about $90 worth of my art in her gallery and a full ref. Hoping for $75 but will haggle. on hold until Nov. 9th
Helix https://refsheet.net/Ink/helix A male Langurhali (Vera's closed species) that I designed but didn't connect with. [rehomed]
Unichime https://refsheet.net/Ink/aqua Closed species by McMugget, I don't recall specifically but I believe she has an uncommon/rare trait (flowers instead of gems). The submission where I bought her has since been deleted so I can't double check. $35, comes with a chibi.
Sundae themed Chipmunk https://refsheet.net/Ink/sundae negotiable, asking $15
Tavrien https://refsheet.net/Ink/tavrien Noodle dragon! $6 or I'll do a sketchy anthro reference for him for $30 extra.
Note or comment to claim, or if you have questions.
Thanks!

Smol Update!
General | Posted 8 years agoHeya everyone! Small update for ya.
I'm a bit behind on Inktober because the tier 2 pieces are taking a lot longer to complete than I thought, and the majority of what was ordered falls in that tier. If you haven't seen yours yet that means it's a WIP! I'll be doing my best to get them out in a timely manner regardless of the slow down.
Tomorrow is my birthday, so I'll be taking some time for myself this weekend. There will be little to no commission updates between now and Halloween likely, save for inktober stuff.

What are some of your Favorite Things?
General | Posted 8 years ago
Heyo!
My mom and I are making some pencil pouches/fursuit repair bags for MFF. We've been looking for cute animal fabrics, but we're considering making some custom patterns as well.
Problem being, I have NO idea what to make, or what people might want. SO! Tell me, what are some of your favorite things?
Colors? Animals? Fandoms? Food? Games? TV Shows? Colors? I wanna know it all! If there are some commonly recurring themes I'll look into getting some custom patterns made maybe. Not for MFF likely, but for cons in the future, especially if people like our sewn goods (which is a bit out of my norm/comfort area for now).
Artist You Should Watch!
General | Posted 8 years agoYo!
My friend River just moved to a new URL: riverofstars.
Y'all should go follow her, because she's amazing and does great work. If you're not familiar with her stuff she's doing a partial reuplaod of her gallery so now is a great time to get familiar with her stuff as she reposts!

Personal update on my end: my two other jobs are done for the month and my partner is on vacation, so I'm going to try my best to crank out the rest of my queue (inktober stuff as well as other things). I've been struggling with some sickness and exhaustion for a while but I think I'm finally back to work at a normal pace.
Expect to see some updates soon, and potentially some open commissions at the start of the new month!~INKTOBER; Themed Commissions
General | Posted 8 years agoI N K T O B E R - C O M M I S S I O N S
10/22 Edit:
Some early month days were not taken, and some late month days I will be quite busy, so I've shuffled some things around a bit! I am still offering Tier 2 linearts for any of the open days below. Shoot me a note with the form if you'd like one.
NOTE: Tier 2's are all that I am offering for these days, due to how my schedule lays out day to day, these are the easiest to turn around for the best quality.
THIS YEAR I AM DOING IT. I'm always too busy, but this year I'm gonna commit.
October is my birthday month, and since I've been closed for commissions for so long I'm a bit short on cash as well.
I'll be opening PWYW lineart commissions during the month of October.
These will be exclusively traditional and in permanent mediums (pen, marker, micron, etc). Not all of the example references reflect this.
Level of detail, medium and complexity will scale with cost. You will get at least the detail you pay for if not more.
I can do couples, but not for the 'starting at' price. +1 char adds ~50% cost to the commission.
I'll be making a big post about this tomorrow but I wanted to post this journal preemptively to give my followers here a chance to snag slots if they wanted!
For those unfamiliar with my traditional work, some examples: one two three
So I don't overwork myself, there are 3 tiers you can apply to any day of your choice.
No Slot Limit
Inked bust or halfbody. Color spotting available for the upper range of prices.
More experimental and loose than the other two tiers. Sort of a grab bag option.
Tier 2: Starts at $75 // x
x x
Limit: 9 14 Slots
Cleanly inked thigh up or fullbody sketch (thigh up will have more detailed lines).
Color spotting and shading available for the upper range of prices.
Limit: 3 Slots CLOSED
Cleanly lined, colored thigh up sketch. Full bleed or implied background elements available for upper range of prices.
Paper size/detail increases with price.

It's going to be up until next week sometime, but no time like the present to join in. Especially if you're like me and might forget.Kiriban Results!
General | Posted 8 years agoWow, I was not expecting so many people to grab screenshots! That was awesome you guys, thank you :D
I officially made it to 20,000 page views, and I had 4 people catch the screencap right at 6:50 (these were also the first four people to send me messages) and they are as follows:
Anabel
LadyNyoko
Alli
SpottedTigress
If you are one of these four people, please comment a ref here so I can do a doodle for you! (Note that you will be exempt from the raffle below).
There were a few others who sent me screenshots but didn't quite make it. I was pleasantly surprised with how many people tried to catch the kiriban and I'd like to reward everyone but I don't think I can afford the time right now, so if you are among the people to send me a screenshot, post a reference below and I'll randomly select one of you to also get a headshot doodle c:
Those people are:
ArtByReL
Forth
Fynath
DandyBadger
Legauw
Kavik11

20k Kiriban!
General | Posted 8 years agoLooks like I'm at 19949 pageviews!
If someone can screencap my views at 20k and send me an image to prove it, I'll do them a quick headshot doodle. Super short notice but I feel like it might be fun :)
I only have time for one of these so it's first come first served, whomever gets the screencap to me first claims the kiriban.

August Update; Vacation and New Job
General | Posted 8 years agoHey all! Several updates for everyone.
First off, this vacation REALLY snuck up on me but I'm leaving tomorrow for a 9 day trip. I will be going off the grid a bit, so I won't have a whole lot of access to internet to check messages--I will pop on as often as possible but just know if my response times are slow, that's why!
Secondly: I accepted a contract position with a local company that I'm really happy about having the opportunity to do. Unfortunately it'll be adding 30 hours a week on top of my already busy schedule, so it might be rough for a little while as I adjust to the new hours. Right now, finding enough time for everything is very hard. My weekends are completely spoken for until the beginning of October, so this is working out to roughly 6 hours a day M-F for me--just a few hours short of a fulltime job.
ALL remaining kickstarter rewards have been sent out (except two people I plan to meet in person and hand deliver). If you backed the kickstarter and do not see your reward in the next week and a half, please contact me to let me know!
I'm slowly but surely knocking things off my list, thank you so much for your support and patience as always. I really can't say it enough, you guys are the best.
Cheers!

Job Stresses...
General | Posted 8 years agoI feel the need to vent about something, and since it's been directly slowing down my progress on my queue here, it is also relevant in that regard. This journal hasn't got a whole lot of important information regarding anything relevant to commission work so do not feel the need to read through it all.
I'm going to keep this vague to respect all people involved, and to ensure that no rumors are spread, but I've recently taken up a position for a job that's something I've been wanting to do for a very long time. Since I was a child. Only recently has this position been made available to me, but it's been more of a letdown than it has been fulfilling.
Also worth noting, the position has not officially started yet. I have not yet been paid, I've been doing prep work for when my contract starts.
Recently I've had stress related to this position bearing down on me from what seems like all facets of the job. First it was issues with creative conflicts of interest, second there were issues with another 'coworker' so to speak feeling like I was replacing them, and now I'm having issues with negotiating pay, so much so that my two superiors have both stepped down (they made an attempt to negotiate fair pay for myself and all the new workers, which was declined).
Generally, I do not work with money in mind. I just don't. I'd prefer to be poor and happy with what I do than rich and miserable. Money does not motivate me. It is a means to an end. However, that means is important. I commute to this job, and the money I was being offered to do it originally barely pays for gas, and now I'm facing receiving even less. There's only so far the love for something can take you before you start bleeding for it, and I think that's where I'm at now.
I am having to face the cruel fact that this thing I have wanted all along may still be out of reach, and not only that, it's costing me (and has already cost me) a great deal of my own time, money, stress, and creative energy. I've let down friends and had to turn away commissioners because I made this a priority and couldn't take on more work. I've dreamed about applying for this position for many months since I knew there would be an opening and FINALLY, this year, got accepted.
I just don't know what to do. I feel stuck. If I quit now all the work and effort I've put into this is wasted, but if I continue, I have no reasonable expectation that the stress will get any better, or even that I'll be financially able to keep it up. Frankly I'm crushed.
