So I want to Start a Comic! / Small Update

I have out of town friends over this weekend so updates will be slow (and have been as you've probably noticed already haha).
BUT While I was on the road yesterday I got this crazy brainblast for a comic. It would include Oura and Otter, and would explain their backstories, personality, relationship, and my version of the furry 'lore' a bit.
I'd like to get started on this as soon as I can before school starts, but I'm thinking about crowd funding for it. While I personally don't really like the idea of having a patreon for my work overall I may create one for this comic. It would be super relaxed--only a few dollars for each 'rung', like devoting even $1 a month would get you access to the higher resolution files to read and enjoy (not just the FA sized ones). A few dollars more, you'd be able to get your character inserted as an 'extra' into the comic.
Still just tossing ideas around! What are your thoughts on Patreon? Artists who use it? Know of any successful comics and how the artists fund them?

Posted 10 years agoAll of the sketches requested so far for the PWYW's have been finished and are ready for color! so if you are waiting on one they should be turned around relatively soon.
Despite not having a steady job I am really enjoying having all this time to work on art. Unfortunately I got a little overzealous yesterday and stressed my wrist a bit, so I've been taking a break from anything too heavy duty. Commissions should resume normally in a couple of days when I give it some much deserved rest.
I have mentioned this on a few occasions but here is an official announcement that Dash and I have planned our tickets and have a 9 day trip at the end of the month to Austria/Southern Germany! We're super excited. This will be my third time in the Munich area and I'll get to visit my host family again. Dash has never been there so he's totally psyched. I'll need to brush up on my German! It's been a few years since I spoke it at all.
Thank you to everyone for the ongoing support. I can't express to you how much I appreciate your business, comments, and favorites. It's what gets me up in the morning most days.

Anyone have the Waitress base?
Posted 10 years agoSo this new 'Lucid' addition to the waitress base is way better than the last version, and I wanna move Oura over to the new base, since I've decided to keep her (she is already on the older version of the base, seen here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16827150/)
I do not own the waitress base. I likely will not own the waitress base (unless like, four people could agree to me making them custom adopts for $12 so I could pay for it). SO. I'm wondering if someone who has the base can just merge some of the lines together in a sort of 'coloring book' fashion (so I can color them myself). Or if that's even allowed OTL I don't really know.
Basically I would need the base (lucid or whatever) with round, otter like ears, short spiky hair, and a tapered tail (like an otter or a fossa). I'd like her to be colored like she was when I originally bought her (relatively simple to do, just 3-4 colors) and then I can make the rest of the edits on my own so you don't have to putz around with her silly markings.
Ooooor if that's not kosher for some reason (haven't read the ToS for the pack yet), I'd need 4 people interested in a $12 custom adoptable (using the waitress pack) so I could buy it myself.

(RL) Losing my Job.

Personal rants will now be marked with (RL) or (Rant) When I make a journal.
TL;DR is that I'm losing my job on Sunday, and that's going to affect my workflow (ultimately in a positive way, probably).

Ugh. I am so tired. I worked 9 hours last night and it ran me ragged. I have not been this busy in months, but a lot of customers came in (even several times) because while we've known it's going to happen, the announcement that we're closing on Sunday I think finally hit people. I think today is going to be even worse. I lost my voice last night, having to yell over people at the bar so hopefully I can make it through one more night x__x
For those unfamiliar, I bartend at a little German Pub that's changing owners and going through a heavy remodel. I make a meager $5 an hour, and for as much as I have to complain about I really do enjoy my job. I love the customers I get, the people I work with, and the food we serve. It's sad to see that all go away. I really do care about the owners and the braumeister (who will be the only current member to carry on with the new owners). I'm sure I'll be relieved when I don't have to take on so many hours and worry about my manager's money problems anymore, but right now more than anything I'm just kind of sad?
I don't really know how to feel about this right now, since it's all setting in. I guess more sad than anything :,)

Work up unto this point has been a nice opportunity for freebies, a nice chance to rest my hand and focus on something else for a while. It'll be interesting without it, and interesting to see how my art and activity here changes because of it.
And for all I've been complaining about my coworkers and my increased hours lately, I'm very sad to know that it's ending :,c

ToS Reminder/Warning; Adoptable Changes

Hey guys. Just a small update today.
Due to a recent issue that a fursuit maker I'm watching is having, I thought I should bring this up here. It's unclear exactly who is at fault in this issue (seller or buyer) or what exactly is happening, but I'd like to take this opportunity while I have it on my mind to remind everyone to please please please read an artist's Terms of Service before you commission them. Not every artist is the same, and we all have different rules. Sometimes they're a little more unclear or even unfair than others. As both an artist, a seller and a commissioner I would urge you to make sure that whomever it is you are commissioning can both communicate effectively with you, and has fair rules in their Terms of Service. I tend to totally forget to read ToS before I bid on things or buy commissions so I figured I'm probably not the only one.
I had forgotten but got a very quick reminder today that people can literally put whatever they want in their terms of service, and while most of us tend to be pretty fair about it and only have it around to cover our own butts when problems arise, others tend to be less than fair. I'm not sure how common this is but it never hurts to be careful and make sure you know what you're agreeing to when you commission someone.
As a reminder, my Terms of Service are listed above every journal I post, in the header. If you haven't already, please do me a favor and familiarize yourself with them. I do change wording and whatnot occasionally, and if I make a large edit I will alert you all through a journal like I have in the past.

With that said, I'm making a small change to my adoptables. I don't think anyone noticed (which is good!) But the most recent design I created (here) was lined traditionally with microns, and then colored digitally.
Up unto this point I've been doing digital lines, as I did not have access to a scanner. Now that I do I'll be switching over to traditional lines for my adopts because it's much easier on my hands and much quicker, as well. I hope the quality change is minimal, really the only difference is that the lines are a bit more textured.

Artists interested in a dual YCH or Collab?

So I got this idea for two images, that would be connected with one another. Similar to this (NSFW) http://www.furaffinity.net/view/17091330/
One image interrelates with the other, and together they tell a story. The idea I have is totally SFW, so no worries about it being super raunchy or anything (of course if that's what you want, sorry to disappoint x3)
The YCH could be done either separately where each artist works on one image alone but they are aucioned together, or collab'd where we each have a part in both images based on our strengths. I'm ideally looking for someone who is experienced with YCH's or has at least posted a few successful auctions in the past, or someone who would be confident that they could sell their work for about the same price as mine (doesn't have to be exact of course, mostly just matching skill/price levels is more convenient for commissioners).
If you know anyone who fits this description, or think you do yourself, send them here or leave me a comment! I'm mostly just fishing for interested parties at this point. If you have friends whom you think may fit the bill and might potentially want to do this with me, I would absolutely love it if you shared this with them. I'm not sure I'm watched by an overly large amount of artists who will see this D:

Which Adopts do You Like? (Poll)

I'm sitting on 50-60 or so color palettes that I would like to do something with at the moment. I'm not quite sure what exactly to do with them. Is there anything in particular you guys are really interested in? Would you like to see something new altogether?
So far I've done:
Ornate Egg Adopts;
Designs are a little more intricate. They cost a little more, but as a buyer you have more input on what's created.

Palette and accessories on a single egg. Minimal clothing, buyer chooses species, gender, and a single adjective to drive the creation of the character.

Totem Adopts;
An item or object to display even more information about the character's personality, likes, dislikes, or even an object they carry around as a good luck charm. Designs are a little more intricate, usually semi-clothed. They cost a little more, you give just as much info as a basic egg adopt.

Iron Artist Update/Sale! Orphan Art Info

Hello Everyone!
Just a small update on the IA. I still have 8 slots open, and while I'm trucking through these if I fill those slots, the whole shebang will likely not be completed by the 25th. I don't think anyone's holding their breath but I didn't account for the extra time that animating would take, and I've had to take on a couple extra shifts at work due to a co-worker being on vacation, and this is something I did not forsee as well.
REGARDING THE SALE;
The whole Iron artist will likely be finished early on in the first week of August or so (if I fill all slots), and each of the remaining slots have been reduced to $10 as is (a whole $5 cheaper than my normal icons) or $15 with animation. This sale is only available if you are a current watcher, or have been referred by one because I want to do something a little nice for you all who stick around and deal with my crap~

On a side note, my boyfriend Dash_Rendar did some research on the Orphan Art topic because he likes digging into legal discussions and politics (poke that bear with a stick at your own risk). He's written up a journal here. hopefully it clears up some things if anyone is as confused about the potential legislature as I am.

So the auction was a Flop.
Posted 10 years agoJust checked this morning to respond and the current highest bidder removed their comment. Which I said was fine prior to the auction close, and the bidder below them wanted to retract theirs as well. So that essentially means we're back at the starting bid, which is not high enough to cover the time I will be investing in the piece.
Was the timing just poor?? Or did the raffle kind of kick it in the teeth? Was it because I didn't host it here??
This was supposed to be kind of a celebration for me, getting everything set up and all that. And I've put a lot of work into these (which is fine) but sadly it seems people are really only interested in them if they don't cost anything. And hey, I understand that. I'm not rolling in money either. But this is my /job/, so I can't do everything for free.
I guess I'm just really disappointed. Nearly all of my bidders lost interest, and because of that I've kind of lost all my interest/motivation to finish the auction at all knowing they wanted to back out. Though I know it's fair and that I'm obligated to, I'm not really sure how to proceed from here. Allow the auction to go to the user who expressed interest in removing their bid, but didn't only because the person outbid them? Make it go to the SB'er? Blegh. There are two people who will be getting a custom Fae and I'm really happy and excited for that, but I guess everything else I had hoped to achieve with this was utterly and totally unsuccessful, which is kind of disappointing.
Ah, well. There is always a next time. Maybe it was just too soon. I have a feeling I'll just be sitting quietly on the Faeliyon for a while while I figure out what I want to do with them next.

RAFFLE/AUCTION UPDATE; Please Read!

Hey all!
I realized a critical flaw in my plan to hold an auction and a raffle at the same time. Originally I was going to hold the auction first, and the raffle second--but not only is that really silly for me because I think it's affecting people's decisions to bid, it's really silly for you guys because those of you who inevitably do not win the raffle will not be able to bid on the auction. SO.
The auction has been extended by 6 hours, and will now end at 1AM CST this morning. The RAFFLE will be ending when the auction was going to, at 7 PM CST (So about an hour from this journal post). That will hopefully give people who did not win some time to consider whether or not they want to bid to get one instead (and will also allow the people who have already bid to see whether they've won the raffle, and don't need to continue bidding!)
I hope this is easy enough to understand, and sorry for the mixup! Good luck on the raffle and get your names in there in the next hour for your chance.

Out of Town for the Weekend!

Hey all!
Updates will be very slow if not nonexistant this weekend as I travel to rural Nebraska for a wedding. I know I've probably mentioned my... Disdain for not only this area but my family that lives there before, but things are going to be a little different this time.
last semester I had to take some time off school for two funerals. the funerals were for my grandmother and her brother (my great-uncle, essentially my grandfather figure). Their deaths hit me a little hard but maybe not for the reason you would expect... We had a very difficult relationship and never really reached a level of understanding before they passed. I was going to be a pall bearer for my great uncle, would have sort of helped me reconcile it a bit until my aunt (also from NE) shot that idea down, because 'pallbearers can't be female. We've never done it that way and we're not going to start now'.
ANYWAY It will 1, be interesting to be in Nebraska for a celebration, and not a funeral and 2, be interesting to be there without the intimidating figures that were my grandparents. Still not super happy about having to leave. But family is family, and I do care about them so unfortunately I probably won't be posting much until Monday.

But I really want this suit. Auctions stress me the hell out though.

You can mostly disregard this journal if you're a watcher, I just decided to keep these all together in a public place for anyone who may want to draw Portia in the future! You can mostly disregard this journal if you're a watcher, I just decided to keep these all together in a public place for anyone who may want to draw Portia in the future! She can be drawn in any of these pieces of clothing (except the high waisted pants/shorts, I hate those for some reason) so if you are drawing her feel free to use these as reference or inspiration!

Iron Artist; 25 by the 25th Reminder!

In case you haven't seen my submission yet, I'm doing 25 icons each with a different character and expression. there are still 22 slots open and plenty to choose from if you are interested! All icons will be completed by the 25th (which is about 2 a day, with a buffer zone for the wedding I'll be attending next weekend).

INKKnow anything about Sergals??
Posted 10 years agoI've made a couple sergal adoptables and now I have a personal interest in creating one for myself (probably not a super serious character or anything) but I was wondering if anyone could bring me up to date on the sergal situation?
I know mick39 created them, and that the canon has changed slightly since their inception but I've been seeing a large amount of ehm... -cough- sparkledogg-y type sergals lately. It seems like before they were limited to the white belly, a single base coast color, and some eye markings but now I'm seeing some with crazy patterns and colors, weird clothing, and totally lore-breaking aspects (wings? Floaty glowy things?) So was wondering if Mick had changed things at all, or what prompted the influx of sparkle-sergals?? (there's totally nothing wrong with brightly colored sergals I just want to personally make sure I follow the canon)
Also wondering if there's any information anywhere that I could use to create a canon sergal. I've checked the wiki pages and they have great info on anatomy but not so much on coloration.

INKOriginal Species--Closed or Open? (+Help with name!?!)

This idea is still -very much- in it's infancy... But I am potentially creating an original species, I literally -just- got an idea for it (based on an egg adopt I am currently making) so I wanted to ask what you guys thought about closed versus open species. What do you prefer? As a creator? As an owner/buyer?
If this species were to be closed, it would be offered through my custom adoptables (egg, totem, etc.) and single character auctions only (i.e. I would not be creating bases for this adoptable type) and I would not be doing flat sale at all for them. However this means I would not allow other users/artists to create designs or characters based on my species.
If it was an open species, I would still not allow users to just create their own characters of their own volition, however I would release an adoptable base back (for purchase, like the waitress base) specifically for this species alone. I would personally still create customs for egg adopts and the like, and would auction off characters and things of that nature, but other artists would be free to use my base to create and sell adoptables of this species as well.
I'm personally not sure which idea appeals to me the most. The second would allow more freedom for everyone else, but would mean more regulation on my part. And of course as I said before, I have yet to really work out the nitty gritty details of the species yet, so I'm still in the hypothetical portion of this idea!

Posted 10 years agoI was going to make this post before, as I was waiting for something else of import to say with it.... But this is important enough to post on it's own. This weekend I crossed over to four thousand pageviews and over 600 watchers. At the beginning of the summer, I had less than 150 watchers and just over two thousand pageviews meaning I doubled my views, and quadrupled my number of watchers in just a month or two! The recent support from you guys has been beyond amazing, and I always love reading your comments be them commentary on my work, thoughts on my journals, or just silly shouts. I really appreciate that you guys stick around and bear with me, especially as I post a lot of varied material in this gallery.
In the past, I have dropped away from the FA community when the school year begins. School is important, but so is being here, posting work. For those of you who have followed me very recently and may not know, the business where I bartend/work IRL is in the process of closing/losing it's owners. We've found some people interested in purchasing the business and so all of the rights and ownership will be transferred over to them in the next month or two--at which point, I have the option to reapply for my position.
I've been waffling on this decision, as I am passionate about keeping the place alive and doing all that I can to make sure it succeeds, but I'm even more passionate about art. This is what I want to do for a living. Since you guys seem to enjoy it too, I'm feeling more and more like I am not going to accept a position when the time comes, so I can instead put the ~20 hours or so that I would spend working on the week devoted to producing work here instead. Next year I'll be a senior and I am set to graduate in June, so it'll be a bit of a rough ride--but you guys have shown me that I matter here (even if it is just a little bit) and you all matter to me a lot, so I'm going to make a serious effort to stay active.
Thanks again for all the watches, favorites, and comments. They mean the world to me <3
