First, a lovely story. Liz and I were at the big open-air mall the other day, when Liz noticed a particularly intriguing hunk of what appeared to be fuzzy brown fungus on a wall. Upon closer inspection we discovered that it was, in fact, a tiny baby brown bat, sleeping in plain view and broad daylight. I'd never seen a bat so close up before--you could count the itty bitty claws on the itty bitty foot with which it clung to the outside of the Forever 21. Liz wanted to pet the bat, but I figured it might freak out and have an itty bitty heart attack (or go berzerk and give us all the rabies) so we left it alone to snooze in the midday sun. Hooray for bats!
And now, back to business. Portfolio season is coming up, and I'd like to revamp mine. I'd like to know which of this year's pieces are, in the audience's opinion, worthy of print and display in my con book. Often I'm too close to the situation to know which pics are really successful, so I'm open to suggestions. All ratings are acceptable. Any help would be appreciated. :>

I've been pretty sick lately and have had trouble focusing on my projects. I'm very pleased to announce that, after a regrettable hiatus beyond my control, the 'TenthCharm' webcomic by Liz and me is officially up and running again! A financial catastrophe in early 2007 forced me to take on extra work and shut down production on one of my projects--that casualty, unfortunately, was 'TenthCharm'. But now we're back, and hopefully nothing will ever slow us down so severely in the future.
Our friendly neighborhood webpuppy  pmoss posted a new episode last night, and hereafter we'll be going back to the Thursdaily format. She says that by the end of next week we should have a new forum, and a long-awaited Cast section as well. :>
Just so there's no confusion, 'TenthCharm' is NOT a furry comic. However it IS based on a certain camp-classic anime, and DOES occasionally feature rampaging monsters. WHICH I love to draw. ;>

I've been meaning to do this for a while, mostly for my own referential purposes. PCA people--now is the time to officially sign up any of your chars who want to be on the Academy's PokeBall team!
PokeBall is a game whose motives sound simple enough: get the ball into your opponent's goal at the other side of the field. This you must do without the use of any Moves. None. No Thundershock, no Hyperbeam, no Slash, nothin'. It's a game of A-button attacks, basically--it's just you, your rivals and the body Arceus gave you (plus some knee and elbow pads if you're lucky). Clobber or be clobbered, zip away quicker than the other guy can catch you, just get that ball (about the size and weight of a medicine ball) in that goal before the opposition does the same to you.
The PCA's team is the Fightin' Primapes, and their current captain is senior Zap Pikans. It's not at all an easy job to be in charge of a bunch of adrenaline-mad Pokemon hauling ass all over the field, so we're lucky that Zap enjoys the level of closet-intellect that he boasts. ;>
Coach for the Apes is former team captain Ursula Wrangler. And one assumed Zap had a tough job...good thing the bear's so enthusiastic! Besides, she volunteered.
If your char wants to play ball for the PCA, please gimme their name, a link to their picture and/or description, and any number under which they'd like to play. Already taken are 19 (Rupert), 55 (Kreep) and 20 (formerly Wrangler's). Numbers are first-come-first-served. I think somebody claimed 69 as well...I wanna say it was either Carlito's Skarmory or Ludu's Abra. Sort that out for me, please, boys. ;>
PS! There's no species, gender or class rank limitation in PokeBall, so don't let that color anything. Also, the game's not limited to great big bruisers; being little, quick and smart can get a ball in a goal as well (long as you can lift the ball). GO APES!!

It would seem that e621 ended up taking down my work after all. Thanks go out to everybody who gave me good advice on the matter.
And, back to work. To those anticipating commissions, I am pursuing them with all speed from now till the end of December. I hope to have this batch done by Christmas, and will try my very hardest to pull off this goal. And yet, the best laid plans of mice and Mantis sometimes get jacked up...if that happens to be the case, please know that I'll have them to you as soon as I possibly can.
I'll close on a high note. Liz had a run-in recently at her new airport job with an ornery bigot who liked to run his mouth on company time. The guy in question didn't seem to see the harm in openly using slurs beginning with 'N' around Black co-workers, nor calling Liz a carpet-muncher when she failed to show active interest in him (a term I don't think I've heard since the 80's...), nor suggesting that an envoy from Rolls Royce use the WD40 he requested to 'lube up his ass'. I guess the higher-ups descended on this dude really fast and canned him quicker than you can say 'fired from several other airlines before this one'. Nice to know that some places won't tolerate sexual-slash-racial harassment at work anymore. :>

Greets and salutations, everyone who'll listen!
You may have noticed recently that my commission production has been a little slow. I apologize earnestly for this, but my distraction has been significant. After a very long and difficult year, my gf Liz has finally gotten a full-time job. Ultimately this should be a tremendous boon for us, but for now we're still getting used to the new schedule. She works nights, you see, and I work days, and we have one car. Once we REALLY get used to the new schedule everything should calm down, and I ought to be able to produce art a whole lot faster. But for now, please bear with me. I'm fully aware of who my clients are and what I owe them. I've just got a small case of the RL's right now, but with a little grit and an assload of caffeine, this too shall pass.
And another matter of significance, if you will. I am delighted to see that I'll soon be hitting 50,000 pageviews. FA has been incredibly good to me, and it's easily my number-one favorite internet haunt. So I'd like to give a resounding thank-you to everyone in advance! However--due to my workload I will not be putting on any contests or anything for the 50,000 slot. If ever I was planning on doing anything kiriban-related, you know I'd tell everybody beforehand. So please don't mail me and say you've won the contest and I owe you something, because--y'know--there isn't one, and I don't. Gramercy.

I'm having a really hard time getting the lead out this week, so I'm'a do this Meme as opposed to just sit here like an idiot. I didn't get tagged but I took it off  leelee.

What is the name of your fursona?
Dreamweaver Hipnough, but you can call her 'Weaver' on account of you're not her mom.
Where did the name of your Fursona come from?
Hypnos typically name their young after the concepts surrounding sleep or darkness or nighttime. I figure 'Dreamweaver' is probably a common name. And 'Hipnough' is obviously a bastardization of 'Hypno'.
What species is your fursona and why did you choose that species?
This is a story that few people know (well, Spotweld knows cuz I just told him). A long, long time ago when EbonyLeopard first created his PCA Team Red, I got it into my head to do him some fan art. The pic was to feature his Pikachu, Stunner, suffering from a common student ailment--the nightmare where you show up to class naked. Turns out that his nightmares were being inadvertently caused by a Drowzee student spinning a yoyo (only Hypnos can wield medallions, you see). I ended up liking the Drowzee so much that I abandoned the fan pic and developed her instead. And that's how Weaver the Drowzee was born!
What color is your fursona and why? Hair/fur/eyes/etc
Weaver is light yellow with a brown mane and brown legs, because that's the color that Drowzees are. She has green eyes with purplish circles around them.
What is your fursona's personality and how does this compare to your irl personality?
I think that if I'd been out in high school, Weaver and me would have been not at all dissimilar. :>

Well, she has that yoyo, though that doesn't really pertain to me...a closer bet might be her plushy, which she calles Chiggin (will draw sometime...meesteree!). Even us tough girls love our plushies. ;>

Weaver is also close to her maternal aunt, uncle and cousin (though the rest of her immediate family is not...more on that sordid business later).

Growing up surrounded by bigger, powerful sisters and an oppressively serious Champion mother is tough enough. I don't want to drive the poor kid totally nuts.

Well, I didn't think much of or about Drowzees till I invented Weaver, so she's an envoy of her people as far as I'm concerned. :P

-She's got a lazy streak, and has a tendency to get all just-don't-care-ish in the face of her team leader when she disagrees with her tactics.
-She likes to eat, alot, and can't be bothered to do much of anything when she's hungry.
-Deep down she's terrified of really disappointing her mother, whose skills she'll never match in a million years.

-Weaver's a damn good fighter, type trumps be damned. You don't grow up in a Champion's household and miss the boat on combat.
-Despite her snottery she's got a great sense of justice. Weaver's not above defending the weak from the cruel, even if it means expending precious, selfish energy for the greater good.
-She's got a heart that's true. She'll be an excellent wife to Ishtar and a great caregiver/defender of their family.

Saturday is officially Ye Mantis Sabbath! I'll be taking that day off on account of it's my 27th birthday. Borther Berb tells me I still have 3 remaining years to establish myself as a wunderkind. No pressure, of course...do sexy Pokemorphs count as Wunderful?... o.o
I haven't been especially productive this week because I'm just too tired. I have a condition for which the medical community like to assign me any variety of colorful and eccentric pills. Most of them don't work, and the latest addition encourages me to do very little but eat and sleep to excess. The only thing that woke me up this morning was the blaring horn of my car-pool outside...let's just say I was late for punch-in.
This notwithstanding I continue to make with the arts, albeit a tad slower than usual. It'll all even out eventually. I'd like to thank everybody once again for the 12000+ faves. You guys are like the family one happily chooses. :D

So I'm working my thorax off over here, jumping between the full time job (which I don't like) and the part time job (drawing for you all, which I love) so's I can afford food for the pets. Betty the python and Sunshine the tarantula are tied for the most kick-ass hunters in the house...Betty can snatch a mouse mid-fall from the pet shop box to the terrarium, and Sunshine just whips out those fangs and FUCKS UP those crickets...it's like a horror movie, only tinier and cheaper. Love my animals. Nature is awesome.
Myself, I'm currently living off old Easter candy, Kroger brand cola, and toothpicks. Must work harder. If Bets and Sunshine can do it, so can I.
I just wanted to let everyone know that, if I don't respond much to posts right at the moment, it's because I'm busy drawing you more! I really dig getting feedback, so please keep it up. Even if you don't hear back from me, know that I'm totally loving you for it!

This here is a casting call for all you Academy fans out there. Help Kae with some plot points, if you can!
I'm working on a few chars right now who enjoy a good battle as much as any red-blooded 'mon, but whose big meaty hearts truly belong to another sport. It's called PokeBall (because the jocks are JUST that creative) and it combines (somewhat farcically) all our favorite violent games like football, soccer and rugby. Any students who like a good brawl and aren't afraid to get their paws dirty are welcome to join the team! Players need NOT be male, but they do need that certain primal animosity if they wanna play and survive. Give me a shout if any of your chars would like to participate--I'll be sure to pass their names on to Zap Pikans, team captain of the Fightin' Primapes. ;D
On a strangely related topic, I'd like to present to you now a personal add! After some deliberation, my Exeggutor boy, Tyrone, has broken up with his girlfriend. The bit is, they got along well until she evolved, whereupon she underwent a drastic personality change. No longer content with one another, the pair parted fairly amicably. However, the story goes that she's found herself a new man...and I'm not sure who that is yet! So I extend my forelimb to the bachelors of the Academy! Our girl's name is Vera Sloan, and she's a Vigoroth (formerly a Slakoth). She is an extremely high-energy chick and she needs a fellow who can keep up with her! She's a senior, plays drums in the band Destiny Bond, and is on the Academy's PokeBall team, where she's better known to her boys as 'Maniac'. I'll post a pic of her eventually, but that's the basic idea. If any gentlemon might be interested in a date with this enthusiastic chick, let me know! If I get more than a few applicants I'll weigh their personalities against hers, and decide which lucky guy will get to twang the elastic bungee strings of Vera's wild heart.

So I woke up this morning not at all well in the head. I went back to bed, forsaking work, and slept till early afternoon. While I was asleep, my cats assailed the fishtank (which they've never done before) and got water everywhere--including my drafting table. It soaked and ruined a bunch of my stuff, and at least one partially-finished commission.
But you know what? I still have the blueline. I can start over. We can work this out. Only it ain't happening today. Today I'm drawing Pokemon. Drawing Pokemon makes me feel marginally better. You could do worse than me, I could be doing lines off some godforsaken toilet seat someplace.
I'll live. Props to Liz for buying me lunch and a Pokemon toy to try and cheer me up. <3
