For only $10 you not only get Lighthouse, but all these other awesome songs. It's jsut a pre-order right now, but you DO get lighthouse and three other tracks. Posted 11 years agoI've loved birds for about as long as I can remember. I have had pet birds since I was a kid, loved drawing eagles and hawks and have a special place in my heart for raptors or all sizes. I've wanted to get a parrot or a big bird for a few years now, finally feeling ready for one, but... I just don't feel like I have time or space that a large more social bird would require or deserve. Looking at prices for these birds as well has gotten me off of the "own a large bird" kick. But it did get me thinking.
I've also wanted a bird fursuit for a loong time. After seeing a few really well done birds (Orzels turn, Origami Gryphon's gryphon and pidgey suit, owls, eagles, ospreys and all manner of tropical birds) I'm confident that I can find a maker that will have the right stuff to do a proper bird.

Pokémon X + Y
Posted 12 years agoI've never really gotten into a pokemon game. I had started heartgold and played that for a day or two and I played black for at least a week on and off. Fun, yes, but... it started to feel repetitive and slow. Like an 8 way game of rock paper scissors that I wasn't entirely familiar with. I didn't know what beats what and tricks/combos that have been commonly used since the original games.
Regardless, when my ladyshep sheppymomma wanted to play X and Y together, I gladly obliged to the tune of a new 3DS for her. We bought our own copies of the game Saturday afternoon and spent pretty much the rest of the weekend cuddled up playing pokemon. :D
I've only JUST beat the rock gym... and am currently running around just catching everything I can get my hands on with False Swipe and a million pokeballs. Yup, that's my favorite part of the game is catching *everything* I see. I'm not much of a battler and to be honest, I don't have any definitive favorites (except for pidgy and rufflette etc. Loves me some bird pokemon) But I've been catching and trying out everything, studying my strong/weak versus table so I'm not a total klutz in battles.
Some of my favorite features? Exp share, strength training, OH GOD YES I LOVE TO ALSO PET AND FEED AND PLAY WITH MY PIDGEY FFFFFFFFFF.
Also, the minigames really help break up the monotony of farming and battling AND are actually useful, making your lil buddies stronger. I think, I might have spent more time grooming and feeding and playing the minigames than the actual game. >.<

BEER UPDATE (also, name my blueberry beer)
Posted 12 years agoCinnamonster Pumpkin Pie Brown Ale: Rocking it, triple filtering it so there is ZERO sediment this year. Tired of gunky beer!!! Looks clear now and smells awesome.
Molly McFizzlewilly's Double Barrel Scotch Ale: I've made this a few times, and it's probably one of my favorite ales. It's dark, it's chocolatey, it's thick and it has an amazingly smooth tail end flavor and aftertaste. It's almost ready to keg and drink.... a lot.
YET UNNAMED BLUEBERRY CERVEZA: It's still bubbling away during primary fermentation, but it's a super light beer so, it'll be done in a week. No kidding. The blueberry flavoring is an alcohol extract of blueberrys I will add afterwards, and will be cautiously poured in and mixed vigorously. Blueberrys apparently make the beer taste iron-y if cooked in, so, I'm going with the extract potion. The cerveza is a nice light crisp beer that'll have a bite, which I think (and hope) will make the blueberrys tartness stand out. Willamette hops are a really floral hop. (meaning it is way less acidic so there is a lot less bittering, and you get more of the nice flowery hoppy flavor)
So, those are the three beers that are going to Furfright. 15 gallons of awesome. Hopefully lots of people will scamper into the beer garden to try and share their own brews over the weekend.

Scotch Ale Brewing Stream!

Posted 12 years agoThe second installment of my beer brewing for this years beer garden at Furfright (www.furfright.org) will be tonight around 6-7pm, giving me some time to work out technical issues or whatever. Last night I max-loaded my laptop and somehow managed to not crash for almost 3 hours.
Tonight, we're cooking up a Scotch Ale, which is a high clarity double dark brown ale with a lot of nutty tangy notes. One of my favorite beers, other than the pumpkin spice. This was one of the first beers I actually (with a little help) put the ingredients together for myself. Aged a little, this brew develops a chocolaty aftertaste, and since it is a double beer, had a creamy/full mouth taste and has a deliciously thick head. Again, this one is going to mostly a malt-extract but I tried to use as much actual grain as I possibly could.
While the Scotch Ale is boiling down, we'll revisit the Cinnamonster Pumpkin Pie Brown Ale we put into fermentation last night. I woke up this morning to a wonderful bready smell in the kitchen and was very very happy to seem a constant stream of bubbling coming from the vaporlock. We yeasted with a Safale S-04 (Dry Ale Yeast) which should keep the body nice and crisp so the nutmeg, all spice and cinnamon profiles come out first, followed by a warm thick mouth-feel and a sweet pumpkiny aftertaste. The fact that the yeast is this active is a good thing, since faster yeasts generally make crisper flavors. "Slow" yeasts as used for bread and much thicker/higher APV beer, like the Scotch Ale we're cooking tonight.
Tomorrow I am going to throw together a quick cerveza kit I got for a flavored beer. I tried to find cranberry extract, but nobody seems to actually make cranberry flavored extract. Instead, I'm going to make a blueberry flavored beer. The crisp cerveza body will allow the blueberrys sweetness to shine out, and since the armoatic profile of cerveza is so low, this beer *should* have a distinct blueberry scent. As a last result, the blueberry extract is very purple/deep blue. This beer is going to end up a super high-clarity lavender or deep blue. I *MAY* break the "no clear glass bottles" rule, just for display purposes.
In two weeks, I will also be doing short 1-hr long racking streams, where I will show how primary fermentation gets moved into a secondary fermentation and a bunch of tricks and science behind container selection and anaerobic vs aerobic chemical reactions and how it flavors the beer.

Furfright: Who does the beer boil for? It boils for thee!
Posted 12 years agoPutting this down here so I don't forget. As of this posting, there are 77 days until Furfright. It takes roughly 45 days from start to finish for a good batch of dark beer. This year for my Furfright Beer Garden/Octoberfest, I'll be pulling out a few favorites and trying some new stuff too.
Pumpkin Pie Cinnamonster Brown Ale will of course be included this year. Going to rack it twice and filter it, as well as let it sit cooled and under a much lower pressure so it's actually drinkable by the time the con comes, without the cinnamon chunks I usually get.
A yet unnamed pumpkin pie spiced cream ale. (sorry I love love love pumpkin spiced beer!)
A cranberry infused pilsner, aka "PFUDOR"
That's all I got right now.

Bronycon 2013: OH SHIIII (Help)
Posted 12 years agoSo, I get a text today from my buddy in Vermont that we're going to Bronycon with. Turns out, his new truck threw a back differential and various parts of his engine along with it. So, as of this minute, he is not going to Bronycon. He was a staff member and therefore was also the room holder. He was also going to drive and provide us with various energy drinks over the weekend.
Sheppymomma and I (and now 
desertgunbunny) would still like to go but are lacking a room. We have transport down and can manage to feed ourselves for the weekend obviously, but from the looks of it, hotel rooms are not available in the main hotel. As we are suiting, we would prefer not to have to hike there and back.
So, there it is. We want to go, but need a room and would like to go Thursday to Monday.

We have transport down and can manage to feed ourselves for the weekend obviously, but from the looks of it, hotel rooms are not available in the main hotel. As we are suiting, we would prefer not to have to hike there and back.So, there it is. We want to go, but need a room and would like to go Thursday to Monday.

We packed last night. Everything is waiting and ready to go. We are prepared. WE ARE READY.
I have SO many plans for the con, so here is the general outline:
Thursday: Arrive at around noon, sleep till 5-6. Dinner, Fireworks, Wine, Thursday parties.
Friday: Get up and go to school! "Art Class With Miss Cole" is a panel that my lovely lady shep is doing at 11am in the Cambria Room.
Brewfurs meet at Friday at 4:30 will be a crawl to a local microbrewery. Awesome!
NE Furs Meet and Greet is in the PEnnslyvania Room at 9pm. That should be fun.
Dancing, Room Parties and Dealers room time will be stuffed in accordingly.
Saturday: Fursuit parade formup at 1-2PM, then the parade at 2-3PM
PA Furries Meet and Greet 3-4PM in Room 413-415.
Matt Ebel in concert at 4-5:30PM.
Dancing, Room Parties and Dealers room time will be stuffed in accordingly.
Sunday: 10AM LOOK LEFT CONCERT OMFG GO TO THIS.
Some other stuff probably on Sunday.
Sheppymomma also repaired my original Logarth fursuit. It's 10 years old this year. 10 Years. A decade. Still looks awesome. Going to be wearing it for the Guinness Book Record Photo, since the new Logarth doesn't have feet paws lol.
