The official Vilous team would like to announce our newest members,  NuebKitsune and  Mayo-san! Please give them a warm welcome.

 NuebKitsune has helped the team in the past, namely Anix, with the recording of con panels. He has also made some fairly large overhauls to the Vilous website for us, and has really upped the quality that we strive for.

Some of you may also know of the Vilous-themed recreation of Gold Ring city in Second Life he runs alongside  Krysune which we all would like to formally recommend you take a moment to check out.

 Mayo-san is a very talented artist from Japan who has been admired by many people as being canon-compliant with crispy styles and visuals. She has worked closely with one of the Lore Masters,  Coju, for a long time to ensure all of her Vilous-related works are as canonically accurate as possible.

As part of becoming an official Vilous artist, she is eager to help us by promoting the universe and filling it with life through serving more canon visual materials that dynamically explain lore concepts for the Wiki, official artworks, and potentially more!

Dear Vilous Fans,

Regrettably, we inform you that the Manga will be taking up a momentary pause due to Mick's ongoing real-life situation. As some of you may have already been aware from small Patreon updates and such, she has been steadily working her way through moving house and establishing a more comfortable area and workspace environment for herself. This has incurred additional costs of living, which she has been doing her utmost best to cover via Patreon income as well as taking on additional commissions.

While these issues do not directly affect the manga timeslots per say in terms of workload, or the time investments, Mick felt it would be best to postpone the manga posts for a while until things settle down, thus giving her ample time upon return to have full focus and ensure that the delivered pages are up-to standards!

Dear Fans and Friends,

It is with heavy hearts that we need to announce a change of plans.
With the current situation across the world with the COVID-19 virus, US event gatherings and conventions have been cancelling and rescheduling their events across the board. Our Team is all still healthy currently, but we do hope everyone is able to stay safe and sound with the rising risk and anxieties following every news update.

So how does this affect the Vilous community?

Prior to this weekend, we were planning on appearing at the BLFC convention in Reno, Nevada. In consideration of the increasing risks of a large gathering of attendees, the BLFC staff have decided to reschedule their event to the weekend of October 31. That does mean that we will not be attending a convention in May this year.

However, on a good note, all accepted art gallery participants and vendors are permitted to keep their reservations, so as a result, we DO plan on attending the Fall session of BLFC 2020. We will be featuring a Dealer Den table, hopefully a panel or two, and ideally have at least one Vilous artist in the Art Gallery Show.

In the meantime, our next appearance is aimed towards Indy Fur Con, in Indianapolis, during the weekend of August 27-30, 2020. We will keep you updated if there are any changes regarding that convention as well.

For a dash of positive news, we should be cooking up some wonderful new products for everyone to enjoy, as well as readying another exciting episode of the Vilous manga as our current one begins to draw to a close. Again, updates will be forthcoming once we know more. You can probably expect another letter in June, if not sooner!

Another year has come and gone! It’s been an exciting one for everyone, with a plethora of new lore releases, a lengthy manga episode, and several new products in the BoldKobold store.

🔅 Midwest Furfest Recap: Mick & Kiki visit the US!

We had the extreme pleasure of escorting Mick & Kiki to the Midwest FurFest convention this December, giving both a chance to meet fans, sell traditional artworks, and have some nice American adventures. While it was a delight to host them, we do hope another visit will be possible in the future. We will be sure to inform fans where to see them, if this works out!

🔅 Recent and New Merchandise

This upcoming year should be a good one, rich with more lore and artwork for everyone to enjoy! As an accompaniment to the Sergal Anatomy Guide, we are expecting to finish the Nevrean Anatomy Guide, complete with specifics for both genders of the Nevrean race. We do finally have physical prints of the Sergal Anatomy Guide poster, so please check out the listing online, these are limited in stock!

In case you missed our prior announcements, we did release a couple new dakimakuras in the BoldKobold Store last year, including a very sweet sleepover combo of Jakk and Quu and one very nice pinup of Officer Kadd, a couple shirts, and a few enamel sergal pins. You can find these and more at the BoldKobold online store and at conventions during the year.

We hope to showcase more traditional artwork from our Vilous creators, especially in a couple art shows at furry conventions across the country this year. Being able to attend conventions from the Dealers Den has been a real treat, both in working with artists to coordinate products, and to show clients & fans face-to-face just how high quality our products really are.

Members from the Vilous Team definitely plan on attending the following conventions, to hold the Vilous/Sergal education panels, meet & greet panels, and for some, feature as vendors in the convention DealerDens for folks to get a first look at new BoldKobold products and save on shipping costs.

🔅 Introducing New Team Member: MetroPex

As some exciting news, we have added a new member to the Vilous Team! MetroPex has been creating fan-made YouTube videos concerning the Vilous world and we are delighted to include him in our team of folks striving to connect with fans and assist Mick & Kiki in expanding Vilous from a small dream to one we all can share.

Metro is truly wonderful to work with and has displayed a wonderfully passionate enthusiasm in his efforts in making introductory Vilous videos for fans. As an official Team Member going forward, his videos (both past and present) will be lore-accurate, working with the Team to ensure all included information is up-to-date canon and fact-checked for everyone to enjoy! This should offer fans another fantastic resource to utilize in their exploration of Vilous!

We are excited to inform you that both  Mick39 and  kiki-Uma will be making their arrangements in order to attend this year's Midwest FurFest [MFF] convention!! As such, they are now undergoing preparations, therefore the Manga will be undergoing a short hiatus for the time being until further notice. (The date in which the Manga will resume will be announced as soon as possible)

MFF is held on DECEMBER 5 - 8, 2019, at the DONALD E. STEPHENS CONVENTION CENTER.

We will be hosting our Vilous Panel on December 7, 3PM-4PM local time at the Convention Center's North Ballroom, 33-34! Be sure to sign up, drop by and attend! There will be a Meet & Greet held straight afterward where you might have the opportunity to hang out with the creators of Vilous themselves!

Unfortunately, Mick Ono has sustained a moderate injury to her right hand last week and is forced to postpone the manga and some commission updates as a result.

We have frequently received kind-hearted questions from fans such as; "How could I help Vilous?" "What kind of support can I do for Vilous?"

Here, we would like to answer it with the consensus from all Vilous staff including Mick.


We, the official Vilous lore team, have been working hard to bring you interesting articles to build upon the world of Vilous. In particular, Coju, Kiki, Mick, and Drago have spent considerable effort to ensure the official wiki is updated with current lore and that lore questions are answered in our various channels.

As a reminder, Kiki's personal Patreon has two important goals. The first is continued world building and sharing updates with fans. The second and bigger goal is sharing and bringing Vilous promotion to you in person, in real life!

It is your continued support that helps bring about new opportunities, such as allowing Mick and Kiki to be able to afford to visit the USA or other countries and meet Vilous fans in person at conventions -- something that Mick and Kiki both hope to do someday! This also means getting to see con-exclusive merchandise and commission opportunities that the Vilous store itself does not provide. In fact, Kiki is already planning on new merchandise for USA cons!

What many may not realize is that even a small level of support on Patreon can make a huge difference. It helps artists make a living and also helps the world they create expand. Hi dear Vilous fans~! We would like to post up the 6 Lore Questions and Answers from me and  Kiki-UMA via skype session shortly here, as we go through and translate the original Japanese texts from  Coju and then proofread them in English with the help of  Maplesquid~!

1. Q: Can Male Nevreans really fly?

A: In the current state of the canon, they are guaranteed to be able to glide, given their light bodies and wing spans.

Speaking of flight, specifically, they cannot achieve this due to the size ratio of their body to wings, if we were to consider it from logical and/or physical reasons. However due to how Planet Tal's gravity, force of wind and atmospheric composition, etc. may be completely different from that of Earth, these things cannot be decided as of yet due to the need for careful considerations towards Canon and Timelines/effects.

Therefore, the canon on this element in particular might change greatly in the future, and there is a possibility that the concept of a flight boundary and gliding is different from that of Earth.

(Note: Nevrean children are still capable of flight regardless of gender. To learn more, head to section in Vilous Wiki.)

2. Q : What are ways in which Sergals are cleaned or bathed? Are there any traditional baths or is there something different?

A : Because Eltus races are quite literally furry people, they do not really have a habit of entering waters all that much. Pure water is a very precious commodity on Tal, most if not all of it is used for drinking water.

In the Southern and Eastern Tal Regions, you may see sand baths, bedrock baths, swimming in the sea, and salt baths as the main ways of bathing. Eastern people originally did not really have a habit of taking baths, they preferred hand-grooming if anything, instead. Southerners also used to share these habits but they deviated as time went on. Since dye use and tattoos became popular alongside fur treatments, the need for water usage also went up due to the costs of fur care. This practice is mostly limited to urban areas.

Rain herself used to enjoy bathing in hot waters, which her companions could share, but this was more or less achieved because of her wealth.

3. Q : If Jakk has the perfect qualities to be Judda, why is the wiki not rating him as one?

A : Due to the nature of Jakk as a character in the ongoing Vilous Manga, it is not feasible to write out a fully detailed biography as the story is still being written.

Speaking of the word "Judda", for the moment, the only thing that applies in this context / story is the position of Quu in the late stages of Gold Ring. As for the actual Judda traits and proper form, we would like to avoid talking in depth about it at this stage to avoid confusion later on.

4. Q : Are there available references for Modern era Shigu cities and streets?

A : Aside from those featured on the wiki, not yet.

In Russia, in order to protect against cold weather, there are buildings which dig passages in their basements as well as feature a lot of windows and doors. There is a similar system in Shigu built in order to prevent invasion of wild Talyxian creatures. Castle walls surrounding their cities are also present, they overall have a rugged, bare and rustic look.

5. Q : What about the color of the sky during Sunrise or Sunset? And what about the color of the Sun, Vilous, which rises over Tal?

We still cannot say for sure about the colors of both for now. With regards to the sky, Eltus races generally have good nocturnal vision, with the exception being Native Nevreans, so they often act at night. During a time in which the sun is high, many people prefer sleeping.

In other words, midday seems to be the time for napping on Tal. Urban nevreans which live in Gold Ring adapt to some extent to this situation.

6. Q : Can you specifically describe what Sergals can do with their dexterity?

A : The main downside to a Sergal's dexterity actually pertains to their eyesight working in conjunction with their brain structure. Due to their lack of proper depth perception, they are not that able to fixate on a single point easily, thus they encounter difficulty whilst dealing with complex assembly tasks (Like working on intricate, small devices with moving parts, for example like a clock). Their motor skills and hand dexterity is just fine, however.

Generally speaking, due to Sergals innate nature, they do not really need complex cooking methods, preferring to eat their food raw, unlike Agudners. Due to the fact that Sergals also lack gender differences in appearance, most do not readily care much about being caught in an "undressed" situation. A Sergal's lack of horns and fangs that need to be taken care of like their Agudner friends is also another factor which shows that they have more freedoms at their disposal.

Unlike Sergal children, which prefer to run around and about, playing catch or tag with friends, Agudner children tend to have a more hands-on approach with things. These are all factors which need to come into consideration and why it is hard to say that something along the lines of "Sergals have no dexterity", because there are many differences which come into play here, ranging from Biological, Psychological and Social standpoints of their respective species and lifestyles.

There are individual differences in what they can do, and/or specifics, but they can all easily practice simple and basic works such as filling up a hole on broken walls, cutting of meats, or writing down characters on paper.

Let's take Mr. Yaji for example! His job is a plasterer! A very high-demand job anywhere on Tal, with a lot of technical areas covered in one.

Or the venerable Giten from Episode 3, "At the Festival". The Master Butcher is capable of doing a very complex "Dismantling" job on Talyxians, imbued with a very talented sense. It requires a lot of patience and sharp hand to be able to discern which types of organs to cut and where.

Even so, Giten's profession is at the end of the day just tackling the element of Dismantling, whilst Processing the meats, curing and preparing them is more of a task for his friend, Ahkoh the Agudner! (Ahkoh was originally working together with Giten in his meat shop, but he changed his job to that of a fur dyer later on.)

📣Three announcements to give!

1. The Chronology Timetable has been updated with new chunks of lore and reorganized properly to accurately reflect the course of events.

2. The small and black creature inside the cage that can be seen on the artwork "Scenery of GR: Sergal Boy at Veranda" was previously known as an unnamed Eltus vermin, but its canon lore has changed and updated to Talyxian creature, and going forward, will now be known as "False Crabs".

3. A little change on Actinia's canon lore - Actinia's meat is not tasty. The value of their body parts, including the meat are considered more material than edible. Their liver which Giten wanted is no exception to this rule. The value in the meat lies not in it's flavor, but general usage.

Hey there fans, did you enjoy this event? Yes indeed, Yes indeed, the cring— *cough* ...I mean, the omnipotent lord, Dark Daemon Sergal was our April Fools joke plan!

All of the "new lore and rules" about the Dark Daemon Sergal were just playful jokes, and now we can resume our 'normal' Vilous canonical activities.

Alongside our JP team's concept ideas,  Kiki-UMA and I were drawing artwork, and website management members  BeakieHelmet and  Xayr were working up the surprise for our website!

Of course there was also great help received to translate and proofread the descriptions by  Coju,  Bandrik, and  MapleSquid!

We hope you have enjoyed this event!

📣 Two announcements to give!

1. Changes to manga release schedule!

To be more consistent with our manga page releases, we have revised our release schedule. Starting this month, page releases will alternate between Monday only the first week, then Monday and Friday the following week, then Monday only again. See the calendar here to see how it compared to the earlier "once every 5 days" schedule.

March: 5, 12, 16, 19, 26, 30
April: 2, 9, 13, 16, 23, 27, 30
and so forth!

2. "Echinus-horse" renamed to "Talyxian Urchin Bubalus"

The creature featured in Episode 4: The Twelve Plainswalkers was previously known as an "echinus-horse". Going forward, it will now be called a "Talyxian Urchin Bubalus", or bubalus or even "cattle" for short. Bubalus is a real-life genus of bovines that includes the domestic water buffalo, and we feel this is a better fit for the T-bubalus of Vilous.

Commonly referred to as "urchin bubalus" and "cattle" by the Eltus peoples, these creatures are well suited for pulling wagons and other burdens for long distances, often better than T-horses. Due to their rolling method of locomotion, it is not practical to ride directly on one, and thus require special rotating harnesses to pull loads. Their spines and large bodies allow them to move effectively through unsteady marshland. Some types with especially long spines are used for soil preparation on logging sites. Urchin bubaluses can be found both domesticated and in the wild.

Hey there, Vilous Fans!

In order to better facilitate the smooth release of Episode 4, there has been a slight schedule change for this month to the episode postings.

The dates are as follows : 8, 13, 18, 23 and 28 of February, respectively!

Hello Vilous Fans!

We are happy to announce that the Manga will resume its course, with Episode 4 starting up on the 3rd of February. Mick and the Team will be working to prepare for it’s debut, thus there will be no Friday Intermission art.

In the meantime, we would like to present the follow up to last month’s QA session, featuring the Survey Results alongside in-character responses to all of your questions~!

As of January 22nd 2018, there have been 124 votes in total, placing Ged at #1, followed up close in second place by none other than Rain Silves herself, and surprisingly Giten taking the third place, with Yip and Yap occupying the fourth!

It seems The Dark Clouds of the Shigu chapter was a hit with fans, given the overwhelming adulation for Ged. Rain Silves occupying a place up top is no surprise. Even though she has only appeared for a scant few panels at best in the chapter itself, her reputation precedes her.

Giten’s popularity is surprising, but welcome! It seems the Master Butcher of Gold Ring has quite a bit of a charm among his crotchety old mannerism.

And last but not least, our dear Northern klutzes, Yip and Yap. They have enjoyed a very loving and supporting — though posthumuously — following. Though they are no longer with us, their spirits live on, delightfully yipping, yapping, and yiiighing away.

Q&A Session - Ask The Characters!

 korvre asks Giten: How did you become the master butcher? What lead you into the life of meat carving?

Giten: A master should never reveal all of his trade secrets willingly, especially in such a competitive enterprise such as butchery. It’s been in the family for generations and I’ve inherited quite a few techniques that the… young upstarts of today have yet to even consider or refine. Thank you for your question, young lad!

 blucandy asks the eltus children: What games do you all enjoy the most with your friends?

Bakku: I enjoy collecting stickers and cards. Sometimes eating out with friends.
Mabu: I’m better at eating~!
Ogi: Getting eaten... *Snicker*
The kids laugh.
Elica: Kickball is nice too~!
“Yes, yes~!” They all say in unison.

 Aquilak asks Yip and Yap: Are you brothers?

Yip and Yap look at each other, nod and yiiigh together.

 Snergal asks Yip and Yap: What are your given names?

Yip and Yap stare in confusion, one scratches his head whilst the other catches sight of a bird and peers his head after it, bumping his snout into the other, causing them to squabble with each other.

 Aquilak asks Ged: Who raised you to become such a brave risk taker?!

Ged: “Brave? Well... I was just doing what I could to protect my best friend Bakku. I didn't even think about being brave!"

 Bandrik asks Ogi: How do you see if your eyes are always closed?

Ogi: “How do dondokos see if they don’t have ANY eyes?! Hmm!?”

 EllPwnageNighthawk44 asks Giten: Where did you learn your combat skills when you were fighting the Actinia?

Giten: “When you’re a human as old as I am, throughout your life you will acquire a certain set of skills necessary to survive. Let’s put it this way: I know my way around cuts of meat~”

 Landyman01 asks Ged: What was your adventures when you were younger before you met Bakku?

Ged: “I.. I don’t remember much to be honest. I’ve known Bakku almost all my life, so I didn’t really do adventures. Just regular stuff. Playing outdoors with the local kids, staying up later than I should… nothing too special.”

 Landyman01 asks Kadd: What was your adventures when you were Younger before you joined the ranks?

Kadd: “Oh, I have so many stories... I wouldn't even know where to begin! Even when I was younger, I was well known back in Tesae for my skill at hunting. Perhaps not as famous as I am now, but there was this one time when I encountered a pack of huge dondokos…”

 EllPwnageNighthawk44 asks Rain: Can you recall any memorable experiences, events or moments during the world war?

Rain Silves: “I’ve only just begun, but I can say this: some screams do echo more pleasantly than others. I wonder how yours would sound…?”

 Htess1 asks Rain: What was the most significant trophy that you have in your position?

Rain Silves: “Trophies are like toys. They sit on shelves, sometimes you play with them, sometimes they break. They never last… Jakk is a very nice boy, however.”

 cheatscom asks Ged: Do you search for action and adventure or has your life always been this eventful?

Ged: “Uhm.. I don’t know. Things just happen..! Sometimes it can be thrilling to guess what is around the corner. But other than that, no. I would rather stay out of harm’s way and know that my friends are safe.”

 cheatscom asks Yip and yap: How can you tell who is who, has anything ever happened of people confusing the two of you?

Yip: “Sometimes.”
Yap: “Many times.”
Yip and Yap: “All the time~! Yiiigh!”

 curiosus asks Bakku: Sometimes you think of Ged? and you miss him?... and you still hope to see him again one day?

Bakku: “I do think of him, yes. I hope I’ll get to see him again sometime. I’ve written him letters now and then, sent by caravan.. I’m not sure if he ever got them..”

We would also like to take the opportunity to hold a Q/A session, with you, the fanbase! Please submit your questions, comments and feedback down below and we will make an effort to reply to as many as possible.

Your questions can range from anything between Lore Questions, specifics about the Chapter itself such as characters and the story so far, as well as asking a specific character or Team Member a question! All of your questions will be answered in a follow-up journal later!

Bakku Tomaa: "Haha, at first I was slightly startled then amused with the possibility that he might have fallen over!"

Giten: "I'll handle this one, as I'm the Master Butcher of Gold Ring after all. Yes, [Fanname], the Actinia tentacles are indeed edible. They are similar in texture to Dondoko ones, though they are more fatty and sinewy due to the beast's sheer size and build. Thank you for your question."

Dear Vilous fans, I would like to let you know of an important situation about my best partner,  Kiki-UMA.

Kiki has supported every part of my life, including the world-building of Vilous, for a long, long time. When I was having a crisis moment due to deep sorrow in my heart, she was always there to give advice in overcoming it. As for Vilous, almost all of the lore, canon, and story line found in the comic was actually created by her. Her ideas are very imaginative, and I'm deeply appreciative of her for helping with the world-building and management of Vilous. The world of Vilous would be much more dull without Kiki and her creative ideas.

She depends on her creations just as much as I do, and she needs more support due to her chronic situation in life. In spite of her importance to both myself and Vilous, she always has been in my shadow, and sadly many Vilous fans have no idea who she is. I feel there is too much imbalance and unfairness in this situation. The actual fact is, Vilous was created by two authors, myself and Kiki. I hope more Vilous fans will recognize this truth, and support her as much as they support me.

When she considers and creates new canon or detailed lore, she focuses her entire time and energy for it. On a frequent basis, there are many fans seeking more detailed Vilous lore, more info, more canon guidelines. Of course fans needing current and correct information about Vilous is a good thing, but those needs add demands on her, as the main story teller. As this list of tasks to fulfill grows, this can become stressful and is quite hard for her current situation. The support for Kiki is unfairly few in proportion to the art and world-building work she had done before now, currently, and more works she can deliver in the future. Thanks to everyone, my Patreon members have increased, and my life has become slightly stable than my former situation. But Kiki's Patreon members are still excessively few in comparison with mine. If she was able to achieve a more stable income for her life via Patreon support, she could be more aggressive in her activity as a creator, especially with Vilous things. And it will make Vilous world-building occur more smoothly!

Now, her Patreon features her Vilous concepts and artworks. They are composed of things that belong to her personal characters and things including lore that can be treated as strict canon. Also even for her personal character things, it always has the possibility to become canon later in some cases with the convenience of having her as another creator of Vilous! Of course such things will be mentioned if/when they became canon. Vilous fans can use those canon concepts as more detailed references of the world of Vilous. And I hope you will enjoy her inspiration from everything she creates, like I do in amazement!

Dear fans, we apologize for the delay but we are having to postpone resuming the Vilous comic that was planned for April, due to the author's personal reasons. The release date is yet to be determined, but we will do our best to make it as soon as possible. In the meantime, we will post existing official Vilous artwork that is published on the Vilous Wiki or Patreon (at a lower resolution than the patreon) but have not been posted on FA. These will include canon description so everyone can learn, know, and enjoy the actual Vilous worldview more.

In good news, we are excited to say that the latest shipments of dakimakura covers and shirts have arrived and already begun shipping out! We thank all of you for your patience with these and look forward to seeing pictures of your new shirts and dakis on twitter!

One more important notice, we will add a new rule to the Vilous ToU (Terms of Use) regarding the official Vilous logo.

According to the ToU, official Vilous artwork that is made freely available by Kiki and I (for example in my public galleries) can be reposted, collaged, copied, or traced elsewhere. However, the official Vilous logo is an exception. Because it is our trademark it is reserved strictly for "official" artwork and other assets. For fan creations, you may use the word "Vilous" or similar, but it is best to not have the official logo used. This is to prevent confusion on what is official work or has direct endorsement. Sorry for the inconvenience and any confusion!In return, we are planning a new Vilous logo. It can be used by fan artists for all Vilous fan creations, without any permissions! We appreciate your patience on this development!
