Posted 13 years agoYou know that bit 3-4 years ago when I hopped on the bandwagon where a bunch of people were poking fun at D.C. Simpson for being sensitive about.. being made fun of? That was kind of utter shit. Even worse, there were also a few slurs thrown in there about her coming out as trans and that made it a bit more than being kind of utter shit.
At any point, I could have spoken up about it being a shitty thing to do, but I didn't.
I bet that some (though definitely not all) of the people who were involved feel the same way. That is, if they even remember. It doesn't matter, because I bet Dana remembers, and I'm genuinely sorry I was ever involved.

A retraction, an apology, and TROLL'S REMORSE
Posted 14 years agoEvery once in a while, someone asks me if I'm ever going to clean up any of my old CYD material and put it back up on Vivisector. The answer is that I might put some things back up, but there's some material I can't stand to look at, and other things I am downright ashamed of.
As you are probably aware, Vivisector is descended from Crush Yiff Destroy!, a site founded in 2003 to catalog and discuss the excesses, bizarreness and scandals of the furry subculture. It served as a dumping ground for the atrocity tourism movement's discussions relating to furries, which at the time threatened to drown out discussions of other, equally valuable weirdness on the internet.
Thing is, CYD launched with an article that came down hard on Eric Schwartz for doing not much more than drawing porn under an alias and trying to hide it. This is something every other furry on the planet now does, and in retrospect it was kind of pointless to rant on about it. He just didn't deserve the bile that I threw at him. Later versions of this article tried to soften the blow and turn it into good-natured ribbing, but were still kind of pointlessly shrill.
This article is not coming back. It sounded like something some kid on Encyclopedia Dramatica would write, and I feel bad about writing it. It's kind of almost a decade too late, but I'd like to apologize for it nonetheless.

FA's administration even gets to take the blame for it entirely out of their hands and lay it at the feet of AlertPay. Sharp! That means nobody gets to take any responsibility for anything! It's the FA way.
People are rejoicing in the streets. The deluge of celebratory GIFs in the usual places is substantial. They think furry just got a little bit safer, a little bit less creepy. Unfortunately I have some disappointing news for these people.
The unfortunate truth of the matter is that the cub enthusiasts or whatever are not furrydumb's greatest enemy. Drawings of children in sexual situations are vile, but they are also drawings, and drawings by themselves are harmless. Whether or not the people who create or consume these drawings are also harmless is something that can only be determined on an individual basis. Whatever stupid fantasy someone beats off to or draws is not necessarily connected to what someone is capable of doing in the real world.
The reason all of the online payment houses have allegedly refused to touch FA is because people have actually gone to jail over this underage cartoon smut bullshit. Both in Canada AND the US.
There have been several obscenity convictions dumped on people who had the basic fucking human decency and self-restraint to keep their fucked-up fantasies on paper. And they got brooms broken off in their asses for it.
Google the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Read Neil Gaiman's essay titled "Why Defend Freedom of Icky Speech?".
FA has basically decided to hide behind recent unfortunate precedents in obscenity law. Not the best thing to do, seeing as how obscenity laws have no place in a free society. Furry owes it's very existence to the relaxation of obscenity laws, in fact.
I also feel the need to remind everyone that actual, and I mean actual, REAL furry pedophiles are both rare and very, very difficult to detect. Alan Panda didn't exactly have an FA full of cubporn, Crassus was only really noticed when he was quickly forced into hiding by Perverted Justice and absolutely nobody* saw Frank Gembeck coming. There's also scores and scores that have shown up through the MUCK scene, so many that at one point nobody really bat an eye if a 30+ -year-old dude hooked up with a 16/17-year-old dude.
The real thing is usually pretty smart about who they come out to. They are competent about hiding, destroying and covering up evidence. The amount of crossover with the ageplay/cub/diaper fetishist scene is shockingly small, for two very good reasons:
1. Most of the people who are into cub shit or whatever would never touch a real kid and know that any association with someone who would would be extremely dangerous for them.
2. Most real pedophiles, the ones not involved in zany fucked-up advocacy groups like NAMBLA, would prefer not to draw any attention to themselves. Any hints of even fantasizing about criminal activities would be extremely counter-productive for them.
Going after the real thing takes work. Hard work. Real work. If you want to do that work, Perverted Justice is, as they say, right over there.
There's no doubt that there are more real pedophiles hiding out in furry than just the ones we've seen. Banning cub porn will do nothing to even slow them down.
