Distancing from FA --> Lewdbeans on Twitter
Posted 5 years agoHey everyone, long time no chat! Hope everyone is keeping safe and healthy and happy. Here in pidge-land, I'm rolling into Fall trying to focus my efforts on Patreon, Comms and a super special comic that will be debuting before the end of the year!
I'm starting to be a lot more active on Twitter, so I'd like to direct you there for more content, WIP's, stream announcements, commission openings, etc. I may actually start distancing myself away from FA (surprising no one at this point). Between some of their practices, the archaic and unreliable infrastructure, etc, I just don't feel like it's serving my purposes as much. I'll continue to post final pieces on here in little upload dumps, but communication will no longer be in Notes. God, the notes system is BAD.
If you need to reach me, may I suggest.....
https://twitter.com/Lewdbeans
Cheers guys, be well!

Regarding Comments/Trolls
Posted 5 years agoHey friends,
Recently I've had a flood of racist spam on my page and a series of insensitive comments on my work. I'd like to take this time to apologize on their behalf to anyone affected by their hate, particularly people of color. Please understand that I will continue to do whatever I can to shut down racism and hatred. These bigoted people exist but in the comments on my work they will never be accepted. This isn't a matter of politics. It's a matter of human rights.
Make racists unacceptable again.

ATL Protests BLM
Posted 5 years agoHey y'all. I tend to avoid being too vocal here about my stances, but this is an event where silence is violence. As some of you may now I live in the greater Atlanta area in Georgia. We're perfectly safe so don't worry about that. I'm white as skim milk so my statement here is in solidarity and an earnest wish for my neighbors and friends to stay safe but to keep doing what they can to support the protests.
Our country is on the verge of a tipping point. I've lived in the south for most of my life and it's not an exaggeration that racism is alive and well. On the other side of Atlanta is Stone Mountain, a giant granite boulder with a 100 foot carving of confederate leaders Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis. The monument was the site of KKK cross-burnings for fifty years. It still has a connection to the KKK and the neonazi and neo-confederate movements.
Atlanta is a city built literally from the ashes of the confederate war, largely by African Americans. It has a long history of systemic racism, civil rights protests, and honestly some of the big wins of the south in terms of African American governance, prosperity and solidarity, but it's also the place where Gone With the Wind was set and premiered, the place where everyone 'knows' the good and bad parts of town. Yes, we have MLK's childhood home in Old Fourth Ward, but O4W is the site of rampant gentrification and degradation. We have Southside which is the poorest and most crime-ridden area of Atlanta and then we have Chattahoochie Plantation, an area of multi-million dollar homes owned by the elite.
Yes, each city has their history, but we're smack-dab in the middle of some humongous racial history and yet our protests are small and dwindling. Our governor, Kemp, is not here to help us. He takes his orders directly from Trump and frankly, I'm worried that any big protests here would most certainly end in large loss of life. We have no great leadership, and the city keeps instating curfews only thirty minutes before they go into effect, while also shutting down our public transit.
If you've made it this far, I doubt I have to persuade you that these protests need to happen. Institutionalized racism, police corruption and the hatred of the conservative party have birthed the need for revolution, not the other way around. I hope to see Atlanta take a stronger stance. I hope the fire doesn't die out.
>This should also go without saying, but if you disagree with the message of Black Lives Matter, you can unfollow me. I will not debate you. I will not engage with you. No #all lives matter. No #not all cops are bastards. It is not my job to grant you the benefit of the doubt or engage in debate with you to justify your stance. I wouldn't argue with a flatearther or an anti-vaxxer because they're too far gone to reason with. Go argue with a mirror and stop trying to inflict pain on people, thanks.

General Update
Posted 5 years agoOof! January stretched on forever and February flew like a bird! I'm nearly the half-way point of teaching this semester and I've definitely not been able to draw nearly as much as I would like. What I -have- been able to do is research a lot of material for class and I feel like I'm finally understanding lighting a lot better than I used to! Hopefully that shows in the commission work I put out.
I do enjoy working on commissions, giving other people content that they love and enjoy, but I wish I were a little more free with my time. The comic content I've been putting out is goofy and funny because that's honestly what I need lately. I'd love to work on some of the other projects I have lined up, but alas... time and stress are always a factor.
I did some trial changes to my patreon but they never quite paid off. I'll be making some more edits and changes to hopefully land on a combination of being able to afford to produce more unique content while also sticking to my values and giving y'all something special and enjoyable. Right now I just feel like I haven't hit on the winning combination of commission work, self work and my real life work (which doesn't pay nearly enough). I love teaching, but god, the pay is just not enough to live on.
I'll be opening up for more work this week, so please keep an eye out for that! I'll likely be doing some work that's a little simpler/easier for me to find time for, so colored sketches or the like. These big pieces I'm doing are enjoyable but take a lot of time.

New Job!
Posted 5 years agoSo I realized that I'd had the 'commission open' journal up since the end of November, so let's... do something about that, right? I promise, I'm not dead!
I was hired as a professor this December and started teaching art and drawing classes, so that's part of the reason for my absence! It's a lot of work outside of actually teaching, primarily creating materials and lectures, so I haven't had much energy to draw in the last few weeks. Add in the holidays and my birthday and a good dose of winter sickness and I haven't had energy to post things or draw for myself. I think the most I've accomplished is the odd commission. Hopefully, things will start to settle down and become easier to keep up with.
I'll still have to take commission work because, surprise, professors get paid very badly, but I might be limiting what sort of work I take due to time constraints.
Other than that, things have been pretty aces. Hope everyone had a great new years and I'll work on posting more finished work!

Colored Sketch Comms!
Posted 6 years agoSo my cintiq had to go to the Wacom doctor because of a growing spot of dead pixels. I can still work but not as quickly/cleanly. My ipad doesn't like handling large large files, so all I can do right now are sketch comms and looser work.
SO! I'm opening for colored sketch comms.

I accidentally did a big bad
Posted 6 years agoHey guys. Deleted the submission, so if you're reading this, you know that I unintentionally traced someone's work and proceeded to post it as a ych. I went to bed and decided to check it one last time and saw that the post had blown up with people calling me out on tracing someone else's art.
First off, thank you to those who called it out. You've got much better eyes and memory than I do, and the art industry needs you.
I'm owning up to this and it's a shitty thing. Tracing work is a shitty thing and I'm still reeling that this happened.
Here's what happened, if you're interested.
I was going through old art from two years ago and found this sketch: [nsfw] https://gyazo.com/9884804751101cc63e79ee23d555e49c Originally done by
gorehund
I thought 'wow that's a cool idea, I should bring that back and make something out of it', having no memory of the original piece. It looked like my work from the time and that's happened before. example of some of my work in the same folder: [nsfw] https://gyazo.com/c79875b6eeb70c4d15fc60d304ec8027
I think that at the time I was sketching other people's work just to practice. There's nothing wrong with that as long as you dont profit/post and credit accordingly.
That's where the booboo happened. Time happened. And I fucked up.
So a sincere apology. I'm ashamed that this happened and won't run from responsibility for it. I just ask for your understanding of my mistake. Thank you and good night.

Surgery Success!
Posted 6 years agoJust an update for those not on my social media: The surgery went well and I've got a nerve block on my leg and a big ol splint. I'm doodling a little on my ipad and still gonna be pretty doped up because of the screws and pins in my ankle as the bones heal, but finally I'm on the road to healing!
Also, surgery and anesthetic have been one of my biggest fears for a while. With the help of a little sedative, I did really well and I'm proud of myself. It was a pretty dang good nap!
So yes. a day of pain, anxiety and fear, but now I'm healing and getting a bearing on the future. Still can't even start walking for six weeks, but at least those six weeks start now!
I'm so grateful for everyone's contributions to my healing and if you're still thinking of donating to help cover medical costs, please follow this link to my gofundme. Thank you so much! https://www.gofundme.com/helpsalsfoot
(Also, people have asked for a paypal version so: PAYPAL ME
Thanks guys for your well wishes!

GoFundMe: Broken Ankle
Posted 6 years agohttps://www.gofundme.com/helpsalsfoot
Hey guys, I'm sorry I've been AWOL. BOY do I have a story to tell!
Last weekend I tripped over a speedbump and managed to break three bones in my ankle, something called a trimalleolar fracture. This means, essentially, that there are no ligament-anchoring bones that are whole in my ankle and I'm 100% unable to put weight on it. It also hurts a heck of a lot.
My partner and I ran around to urgent care who took x-rays and told us we had to go to Osteo and corrective surgery would be needed. After a lot of hoop-jumping and red tape, we got through to Lord Osteo and got the verdict: Surgery will be Tuesday, March 19th, to put pins in the bones and reanchor my torn ligaments.
Needless to say, this is gonna be a longer recovery than I first anticipated.
TLDR: Broke ankle, foot doesn't work, surgery needed.
BTW: if you're the kinda person who wants proof/morbid fascination, here's a pic. Wooooo! Not too gnarly (this was before the bruising really flowered) but I tell ya, ankles aren't supposed to look like that.
I really wanted to hold off on asking for any financial help until I knew about how much my insurance would be covering, and unfortunately I still don't have a 100% answer. There's a best case scenario and a worst case, so I'm completely unsure of where to put my goal.
[Let me go ahead and say: please do not feel any pressure to donate if you can't, I understand. If you feel like you can send this post outward to friends and family who have broken a foot and are sympathetic, I'd appreciate it, but well wishes will carry me far right now. <3 ]
In order to be as transparent as possible, here's what I know as far as costs go:
Doctor Copays so far: $30
Medication: $100
Crutches: $50
Scooter (when I learned crutches hurt like heck) $120
Surgery (up-front payment after insurance) $730
Food/groceries/care items: $200-300
Rent: $700
Roughly $2000... which is definitely more than my savings has in it at this time.
So if you can spare a little money to help cover costs while I mend, I'd be tremendously grateful. Or, if you'd just like to send me a good thought or prayer, I appreciate those as well. <3
In the meantime, a huge thank you to my partner, who has been taking me to appointments and helping me so much. I'll also have my mom visiting and caring for me during surgery while my partner works.
I know I can never pay them (or any of y'all!) back fully for their help and support <3

Upload Dump Complete! A note on uploading...
Posted 6 years agoI am the WORST at uploading, and I have no excuse. I just forget, and then a month later my boyfriend has to remind me that people want to see stuff.
A note to commissioners: unless I deliberately ask you otherwise, you can always post finished work I've done for you! The instant you get it, you can post it!
I'm going to try to do a better job at posting deliberately every week, so we can avoid these huge dumps. A thousand apologies. orz

Retroresolutions
Posted 7 years agoSo, as we near the end of 2018 and start gearing up for a better year/better us, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the things I accomplished this year without a resolution. These are things that I'd like to continue on, feel good about, and generally just acknowledge. Maybe before you make your own resolutions for the new year, take a second to appreciate how far you've come in twelve months!
1. This year I finally discovered the secret to getting myself to drink water! Put it in a pretty cup with a straw and we're in business.
2. I've started keeping houseplants that I haven't killed yet!
3. Both me and my boyfriend have been going to the gym since June, and I couldn't be prouder of us for sticking with it.
4. As such, I've lost ten pounds and intend to lose more!
5. Through therapy, I'm learning how to create healthy boundaries.
6. I'm also getting better at explaining why I'm unhappy rather than lashing out.
7. I've started to meet people and make friends locally!
8. I tried lots of new food and found a lot of cool places that I enjoy!
9. I've maintained a 4.0 in classes and look forward to graduation.
10. I've stayed true to myself, and as I look to the future, I can only see that strengthening more.
So before I make new resolutions for myself, I'm going to look at all the things I've accomplished and feel proud. Too many New Years resolutions are forged in guilt and regrets of what we've yet to do. Instead, maybe look at what you've done and think about strengthening it further!

What do you like about my art?
Posted 7 years agoI feel like my style is getting more consistent and recognizably my own lately, but I also know that a lot of people who followed me way back when may not necessarily like the way I've progressed. I'll admit that when I first started drawing, I took a lot of inspiration from the big boy popufurs, but I'm honestly happier with my art now. So, now im curious! What do y'all think? What about my artwork appeals to you?
(also sorry for the huge gaps between posting and then posting floods of new work. I need a reminder to post half the crap I do for people. I'm way more active on twitter if you wanna watch over there too~ https://twitter.com/Salkitten )

Phew, this quarter
Posted 7 years agoLong time no talk, y'all! I swear, I'm not dead. Only a little dead.
This quarter has been absolutely busy and ridiculous in school. Events almost every weekend, very intense projects and continuous readings and work to be done. However, as you may have noticed my huge submission flood, I've been working the entire time in the background. I just have had very little energy to sketch, stream or submit anything. That doesn't mean I haven't been logging in and seeing everyone's comments and notes <3
The quarter ends in just about a week and I have a small convention in Asheville this weekend, so if you're an Asheville local, yell at me your favorite food and beer places.
Can't wait to buy red dead redemption and spend several days doing nothing but game. Heck, I need it.

Please note: I'm fine with sfw/nsfw, but there are some things I'm not comfortable drawing such as:

New Twitter! - NSFW work!
Posted 7 years agoI was never comfortable posting nsfw work on my twitter. I'm not a shy person, really, but it just felt like too many people who I meet in my every day life have access to that twitter and may not want furry dicks on their feed.
SO! Please follow my new lewd twitter: https://twitter.com/lewdbeans
I'll be posting art there a lot more, so hope to see you there!

Hey y'all!
Posted 7 years agoLong time no type. I know I've been very distant lately, mostly due to school, but good things are happening in the background. I just got back from HEROESCON in North Carolina. While it's not a furry con, I actually met a few people who recognized my work from FWA! So that was cool~ I'm also still adjusting to being out of classes. I basically had two to three months of super high stress, and even after classes were over I had to segue very quickly into prepping for the convention. Now I'm headed back out, visiting family in TN. Sorry TN friends ;n; it's a super short visit.
Then I'll be back and opening commissions for realsies, and getting a lot of other crap done, and most importantly: relaxing a little.
Last summer I was working an internship, and honestly I was nervous about what I'd do with myself during summer this year. But I think I'll be kept busy enough by my own projects and continuing to try and improve.
A big thanks to everyone who has supported me and has been understanding of my big hiatus. Sometimes, there's just so much going on that I have to prioritize what I spend time on, but that doesn't mean I care less about it!
Hope everyone else is having a good start to summer so far, and I wish you the best with your own endeavors!

-very tired hand-
Posted 7 years agonear shitposty journal + update while barely awake.
School has me wiped out. I've been doing nothing but flatting comic pages for class for... god, over a week? WHY IS THIS PROCESS SO TIME CONSUMING?
note to self: black and white only forever. dang.
apparently you have to flat color comics in a VERY PARTICULAR WAY or else professionals hate you and you'll never find work ever. So yeah, it's literally taking two hours to flat color one page.
plus in one of my classes (advanced writing) we're reading THREE SHORT STORIES A CLASS and taking a quiz AND on the side doing two 3k word stories of our own. predictably, mine are both sad.
Soooo yeah. that's why I've been missing. I've been keeping up with my patreon stream, but once I got my tax return I let myself take a small break from commissions. I've got 5 weeks to go before the end of the quarter and actually most of the really ridiculously hard part is done. But trust me, I'd love to come back and draw some furry trash. Right now that's just not happening due to time. :(
I'm always a (little) more active over on twitter if you want to bug me there!
https://twitter.com/Salkitten
but honestly. I just had to get a new phone (my old one's screen broke off o - o ) and new phone actually can handle twitter without lags. soooo yeah, I'll be more active there hopefully?
Anyway. thanks for supporting me, y'all. I appreciate it and I'm not dead (yet!)
