"Hello?"
"Hi, Mom! Guess who I just met?"
"Who?"
"Ray Harryhausen."
(impressed) "~Really~?"
(She recognized the name; she'd been hearing it my entire childhood.)
"Yup! I caught him on tour. He's promoting a DVD release of some of his older short films. I heard him lecture tonight, and afterward went up and talked to him for a while."
"Wow!"
"He's still here. Would you like to meet him? I could put him on the phone."
"Um... no. No, I don't think that would be very appropriate."
"I don't think he'd mind. He's really friendly. You know how everyone describes that he's like hanging out with your grandpa? That's what he's like. I just stepped out to call you and let you know, but he's still in there talking to a few people. Seriously, I could put him on the line with you, just for a moment."
"I really don't think that would be polite. It was more important for you to meet him anyway."
"You're sure? He's right there!"
"Yes, I'll be fine."
"...Okay."
~
Sorry, Mom, but you blew your chance to talk to Ray Harryhausen.

Taking Stock:
Posted 13 years agoI like my roommate's attitude that there is no one greatest James Bond actor.
That, rather, each exemplifies a different facet of the same mythological man:
Sean Connery = the Tough Bond
George Lazenby = the Friendly Bond
David Niven = The Aristocratic Bond
Roger Moore = The Flirtatious Bond
Timothy Dalton = The Angry Bond
Pierce Brosnan = The Suave Bond
Daniel Craig = The Suffering Bond
Special mention: Barry Nelson = wait, that guy was Bond?
Yes he was, and he got there first.

He's very good; have a look at the examples below! His technique is lush and versatile... with seemingly endless variety to what he can put on a digital canvas. I am constantly blown away by what he creates.
And yet, despite his skill, he remains in relative obscurity among this community's art collectors.

My Absence...
Posted 14 years ago...Came courtesy of an extended visit with friends over the past several weeks. I was without internet the whole time.
I'm back now, and with a Twitter account, apparently.
Now I need to learn how to use it.

-Car Ride-
Posted 14 years ago"You know that feeling, when you're listening to music that you absolutely love, and you get to that one part... that perfect crescendo, where it takes an almost unexpected twist and the notes just click into place, that one moment where the harmony becomes so wonderful and beautiful, that it makes chills run up your spine, you feel emotion swell over your body like a wave and you break out all over in goosebumps?" he asked.
"Yes," I answered without delay, reveling in the feeling being described.
"That's your energy flaring up," he told me,
"It's a very real thing, like your spirit is bubbling up to the surface, charging you up. Reaching out past your body.
With practice, you can conjure this at will, without the aid of music.
(Though music helps when you're just starting off.)
...With practice, you can focus it. Channel it, direct it to where you want it to go.
You can use it for great benefit. To grow, to nurture, to heal. It's a lifeforce of considerable power that you can direct like a tool. All you need to do is practice."
The car rumbled on, homeward bound from the restaurant whose merriment our group had recently departed.
Full bellies, happy hearts. Other cars in our caravan's periphery drifting in and out of traffic as we made our way back for an evening's repose.
Those in the front seat were oblivious to our discussion as we watched mini-malls and gas stations slip by into looping, neon-signatured night, mere facades to all we saw beneath. Between the lines. Existence through and beyond the literal.
I told him I'd practice.

This was the beginning of my exposure to Athus's spiritual side.
It took place during a visit some years ago, shortly after he'd moved to Phoenix.
A multitude of similarly mind-bending sessions would follow whenever a lull in the crowds would permit us to talk.
Here and there, in chance encounters across the country we'd connect. Usually briefly, but always with impact.
But of all moments, this one sticks with me in particular. It might have been because of what I felt beneath that beaming smile and those sparkling eyes of his.
It was my first time seeing my instincts as tangible, and my draconity as something useful. It was also the cornerstone of my growing respect for him as a well-traveled spirit and teacher. As the radiant creature I could see just below that well-mannered surface.
I hope I have been putting his lessons to good use.

Posted 15 years agowhere you've broken into Danny Trejo's house...
coincidentally, at the same time as another burglar...
who, through his incompetence, wakes the resident......
who in turn comes after you with his throwing knives?

Wanderlust... She Triumphs Anew:
Posted 15 years agoI just returned from a stay in Los Angeles, during which I slept very little, and for two consecutive days had booze before breakfast. Rarely do so many bad choices go together so pleasantly.
It was my pleasure to become acquainted with, and to disembark upon a conversational frontier alongside a most memorable gryphon. His was a vibrancy of spirit I shall surely seek out in future encounters.
After that I interviewed for an animation job and exercised a personal first: I turned them down.
Yes. The weekend was most educating.

This fandomized business-relationship just ain't workin' out.
It would be preferable to keep this gallery 100% hobby, uploading whatever fancies may strike, than it would be to try to adhere it toward earning any sort of living.
So if anyone's asking, the answer is now a giant official no.
Those to whom I still owe work- be patient and I will get it to you.
..This ought to make for a more prolific Skadj in the long run.

This'll break the silkier straps, but the bulk will hold:
Posted 17 years agoWithout the fork of eternal feuding, our temperate vineyards would nod to the winds of doubt. Nine times this year have we already seen their fury. In an s-shaped marsh trapezoid, attempt to sodomize three oblong ape plastics before the royal creepshow descends into well-peppered caution. Mandible medicines need not corrupt their children.
