17 years!?
General | Posted 3 years agoJust realize I've been here over 17 years now....
Where has the time gone? So much changed for me in that time, some good, bad. I rarely interacted with anyone until a few years ago, but once that's changed I've found myself with many friends and acquaintances I wouldn't have otherwise. They have all been a blessing to me. Sadly some are no longer around due to life happening or unfortunate circumstances beyond my control, but I would still wish to let them all know what a good difference in my life they made.
Going forward... I don't know, stay the course I guess.
Yeah, nothing special for this journal, just something I through together on a whim.

RIP Angela Lansbury

While I'll definitely remember her for Murder, She Wrote, I grew up with Mrs. Potts and Miss Price.
Seeing her lead an army of animated armor (in my head it's the undead, even the spell says otherwise) against a nazi landing in England is one of my all time favorite movie scenes

SHAZAM! review. The Superhero movie with the biggest heart
General | Posted 6 years agoI was fortunate to see the new SHAZAM! movie last night and, to cut to the chase, it was really, really great! Definitely one of the most feel good superhero movies in awhile.
I won't go too much into it, I don't want to spoil anything as seeing it without knowing the plot I feel makes the film that much more enjoyable.
That being said, this is one of the funniest, heartfelt superhero movies around. Whoever was in charge of casting deserves a medal, you truly believe the teenage Billy and adult Shazam are the same person and all the child actors are FANTASTIC!
The movie has great callbacks to movies like Big and Gremlins 2, as well as referencing superhero's like Batman, Superman, etc. without loosing focus of the story on Billy and him learning to become a superhero. It is also probably the funniest superhero movie I've seen. I know that's quite a claim, but I haven't laughed out loud at a superhero film as much as I did watching Shazam. Any movie that has the whole audience laughing out loud just as the credits start you know is doing something right. It also does a great job calling out superhero tropes and making them really fun and funny too.
That being said, there are some surprisingly really dark moments in the movie, which are welcome, and they balance everything so well you don't get any tonal whiplash from it.
If there was anything I could say isn't great about the film, it would probably be that the plot itself had some weak points, but the acting, directing and excitement keeps you from realizing it while your watching.
I highly recommend seeing SHAZAM!. It's a great time and you'll leave the theater feeling really good.

Aquaman is my absolute favorite superhero movie this year!
General | Posted 7 years agoI absolutely LOVED the new Aquaman movie! I want to sit here and gush about everything in it, but honestly just go see it!
I'm trying to think of a way to describe it without getting into everything in it, but it's hard! The characters are great. The actors are great. The special effects are terrific and amazing! The creatures are incredibly awesome! The environments are incredibly well done...! Just incredible!
If I had a compare it to anything, I would say imagine the good Star Wars films, just underwater. Which, lets be honest, is like an alien world all its own. The film is also better balanced between humor and serious moments than other recent superhero films and flows nicely.
The creatures are amazing. It's like they resurrected HP Lovecraft and told him 'create a bunch of deep dwellers for us!' The armor they equip the creatures they ride on is also very cool and imaginative!
Aquaman's entrance into the final battle is one of the best superhero entrances I've ever seen. You have to see it to do it justice, it's just incredible!
It also has one of, if not the BEST superhero kiss ever!
Go see it! I can't do this movie justice. You have to see it to really appreciate it. I actually can't wait to see it again!

Bumblebee review
General | Posted 7 years agoIt's good. Definitely the best Transformers movie to ever release. I honestly could only make it through half of the first Transformers movie before calling it quits for the entire series. (seriously, does ANYONE like Ledouche's character?)
This should be a much needed restart for the series, not just a prequel. It tells a coherent story with real characters, heart (bumblebee and the girl comforting each other are some of the best scenes), a competent military ("Do you seriously believe we should trust these guys? I mean they're called 'Decepticons'!"), and action scenes that are exciting and easy to follow and not headache inducing.
The story is basically E.T. only with Transformers and it works well. It has sad moments, funny moments (without resorting to stupid juvenile humor), and exciting moments. While i didn't like it as much as another new release this weekend I do recommend this and really hope this is a new start for the Transformers series.

'Hereditary' movie review.... whoa....
General | Posted 7 years agoThe less I say about this movie the better.
This is... really on of the most effective horror films I've seen in recent memory and it somehow achieves this without jump scares. This may be the only time I've been to a horror film that made people in the audience gasp, jump and audibly react without resorting to those traditional jump scares. Its a quiet, slow burn horror film and yet somehow the 2 hours just flew by for me.
The most common comparisons I've seen are calling it the Exorcist meets Rosemary's Baby for the current generation. Honestly, I would call it more like a spiritual successor to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. This movie handles psychological and supernatural horror masterfully. It's amazing the feeling of unease the film manages to put you in. There are things in the shadows and corners of the frame that could have been there for a while before I noticed and it just gave me the chills.
The acting is phenomenal. If lead actress Toni Collette doesn't get nominated for her acting in this film it will be a real travesty. The way she just attacks each of her scenes and her ability to emote is incredible. Not to mention this movie has one of the most deceptively complex plots going on.
It amazing the horror movie tropes this movie avoids. The biggest twist in the film for me actually happens just a little over a quarter into the film. I highly recommend this, especially if you're a horror fan. Now of course not everyone will like it, its as subjective as any genre out there, and some will say "nothin's happening!" for perhaps the first hour. No. There is A LOT happening! Just not what you EXPECTED to happen!
Chris Stuckmann on youtube sums up this movie perfectly I feel, check out his spoiler free review if you have a moment to get an idea of what I'm talking about. And Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gunZsV67rI

RIP Judge Stone - Harry Anderson Passed on at 65
General | Posted 7 years agoJust as I was getting ready for bed this news hit me like a runaway train. Harry Anderson, famous for his roles on Night Court, Dave's World, Cheers and IT has passed away at the young age of 65. If you've never seen Night Court I highly recommend it. One of the best shows of the 80's-90's with moments Balancing silly, often raunchy comedy (for the time at least) with real emotional moments.

"Rampage" review
General | Posted 7 years agoHonestly, probably exactly what you think it is if you've seen the trailers. And honestly, for me this wasn't a bad thing. This is a fun, check your brain at the door, monster brawl in the spirit of something like King Kong or Godzilla, though not as good as those. (from my understanding, its become the highest rated movie based on video game, so that's saying something at least) Surprisingly gory in parts for its pg13 rating (think Kong:Skull Island level of gore) it does feel they probably cut a few things out to secure that rating. The actors are all clearly having a blast with their roles and the monsters look pretty good. There is one sequence where it felt like the special effects budget ran out. If you;ve seen the trailer you've seen the part where the wolf leaps into the air and attacks a helicopter, which looks quite good in the film, but right after when the helicopter crashes into the side of a mountain then crashes and explodes.... It seriously looked like someone superimposed fire around it. That aside, everything else looked quite good. The film also had no qualms about putting everyone in the monsters path in peril. These monsters are out to attack everything in their path, so get out of the way or get smashed or eaten. Really only disappointment I can think from it is one of the monsters goes down quite anticlimactically, but that's a very small gripe given the rest of the film.
I couldn't help but think back to some of the old monster movies they would lampoon on Mystery Science Theater 3000. This felt exactly like those movies of old, just with much better looking special effects and a much bigger budget. Go and have a blast watching Chicago get leveled!

General | Posted 7 years agoGo see it.
Seriously, that's my review. Go see it!
Given the kind of week I've had, this is the movie I really needed to break out of my funk. This is some of the most fun I've had watching a Spielberg movie in a long time. It honestly felt a little like a sci-fi Indiana Jones adventure. The cameo's are a lot of fun (though most are 'blink and you missed it') and fit the world of the film. It's never boring and just.... Just go see it! You'll see what I mean.

'Tomb Raider' review *spoilers*
General | Posted 7 years ago.... ugh.
Well, the trend of the quality of video game movies continues its unfortunate streak. Which is really a shame since there's some good performances, great stuntwork, and a sense everyone put in a good effort to make something good. Well... everyone except maybe the writers.
I've been looking back at it, wondering if maybe I just was in the mood for something different from what it gave, but its difficult for me to like this movie. Like I said, pretty much all the performers were obviously putting forth their best. Alicia Vikander is pretty much the real life counterpart of Laura. Dominic West is fine as her father. Walton Goggins just looks like a villain, he could visibly read from the script and still deliver a great bad guy, not to mention that ginormous forehead. And Daniel Wu is great as her hired boat captain and, unfortunately, is probably the most interesting character in the movie.
The biggest problem, like I said, is the writing. The first hour was a snooze fest for me despite two chase sequences (which were rather ridiculous), the highlight being a cameo from Nick Frost as a pawn shop owner. One of the biggest mistakes in the writing is that it tells the history of the Mcguffin TWICE in the first 30 minutes!
So the story is suppose to be based off the 2013 reboot of the game series, but decides to make the lost father trope from the first Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider film the main plot focus. And a lot of the changes they make to Laura just... don't make sense.
She's not an archeologist. She refuses the family fortune because it would mean declaring her dad dead, which is noble but means she can't pay for any of the things she does like kickboxing, or a place to live, so she does really strange competitions (do they have a lot of illegal bicycle races in downtown London?). Only to find out that if she DID declare him dead earlier she would have found out about where he disappeared to long ago. THEN she gets to the island he disappeared to only for the villain to find her and IMMEDIATELY TELL HER HE KILLED HER FATHER! If that's not enough, her father turns out to STILL BE ALIVE! Somehow hiding on the island for 7 years without the villain knowing. Not only that, but the villain somehow hasn't bothered to check one of the area most obvious locations on the island for the entrance to this tomb. I seriously feel it couldn't be more obvious if they painted a giant X on the location. Also, this has to be the dumbest set of explorers of a tomb as they trip trap after trap getting to the prize because they take NO PRECAUTIONS! But don't worry, they're somehow smart enough to outsmart the trap afterwards.
Then after all that, the movie has one of the DUMBEST twists I think I've seen in a movie in a long time. It turns out the woman who's been looking after the family fortune and looking after Laura IS THE VILLAIN IN CHARGE OF THE EVIL ORGANIZATION RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EVENTS IN THE FILM! Why is this dumb? Well Laura finds out about it because once she signs the paperwork and inherits everything she goes through a book of all the companies the family owns. Guess what organization is listed in the book? Yep, the same evil one that was looking for the Mcguffin on the island. If that's not enough, Laura goes through more of her dads study and finds a box filled with all the information he could gather about the evil organization. Sure enough, one of the pieces of evidence shows the woman he put in charge of handling the corporation until Laura could take over as well as TAKING CARE OF LAURA as one of the ringleaders of the organization! So in other words, before he disappeared, he gathered all this information about the evil organization, somehow owns their business, has photographic proof the woman is one of the people in charge of the evil organization, yet LEFT HER IN CHARGE OF HIS ESTATE AND HIS DAUGHTER WHEN HE LEFT! I can't facepalm hard enough at this.
To be fair, the inconsistent tone and dumb twist ending make me feel that the movie got put through the wringer by executive meddling. Its based off the 2013 reboot, which is dark, gritty and earns its mature rating, but the first half of the movies plot is taken from the 2001 movie, and there's a lot of editing that feels like there was much more graphic violence than what we see. Not to mention Laura kills a lot of people unlike what she did in the original movie, And the twist really feels like it was tacked on to sequel bait and nothing more.
Also, if you're one of those that hate it when movies spoil things in the trailer, the trailers for this movie literally show the final scene of the movie. No joke. Obviously done for fan service.
There's more I would love to go into, but my recommendation would be to wait and rent this one. When the action sequences aren't silly they're rather boring and most of the movie is predictable. Like I said, a real disappointment considering the effort put in by the cast and crew.

You want to ruin a remake?Cause that’s how you ruin a rema
General | Posted 8 years agoSo browsing around the internet during a lull at work and come across this:
http://comicbook.com/movies/2018/02.....-john-beyonce/
Now, to be fair, I have little to no interest in remakes like this one or previous remakes. Now if you enjoy the remakes, great, no offense meant to you, they just never struck a cord with me. But to cut not only one of the best songs from the original, but also one of the best villain songs ever.... really? It just boggles my mind. What, do they need to cut down the run time to make room for another 30minute Frozen short to play in front of it? Some have commented that it’s probably to show Scar in a more sympathetic light and not make him the ‘obvious villain’. You know aside from that whole MURDERING YOUR BROTHER AND URSURPNG THE THRONE part. If you’re going to cut a song, cut that ultra annoying hakuna matata ‘song’. That would rocket this remake right up to “Eh, maybe I’ll actually see it in theaters” for me

Sooooo.....
RULES :
1. Pick a character you've created.
2. Fill in the questions/statements as if you were that character.
3. Tag at least four people to do this meme
4. Tell people that they been tagged with a link from your journal (if you want to)
____________________________________________________________________________________
Character picked:
Drac
1. What is your name?
Full name is Draconuous Eisenberg. But only call me Drac
2. Do you know why you were named that?
Once I was changed and embraced to a Cornibus Lambia (horned vampire) by my Master, Valentine Eisenberg, I took her last name. As for my first... I guess whoever named me was high at the time.
3. Single or taken?
I am taken by my Master. I belong to her and the rest of my vampire family. Though that doesn't mean I'm not available to anyone outside the family.
4. Have any abilities or powers?
I am very muscular, strong, and tall, thanks to my change. We also have small venom glands in our cheeks which we can use to inject through a bite to kill, though this is rarely used nowadays. The venom glands take a full day to refill, so its also used only as a last resort. Other than that, pretty much the same as a normal fur.
5. Stop being a Mary Sue!
.... ok. (pssst, anyone know what he's talking about?)
6. What's your eye color?
A nice bloody orange. You should see them when I'm excited or angry.
7. How about hair color?
Fur is a blood orange color, much like my eyes, with blond stripes, which comes from my Masters hair color.
8. Have you any family members?
I have my Master
behemothvalentine and her other pets/my vampiric siblings
Afrisch
Coyoteofthesands
Rajara
PYC-Art and
maidenwildwolf
9. Oh? How about pets?
No traditional pets or vampire pets, though there are some furs I've got my eyes on

Toorima Another ask me anything journal and review of Jumanji
General | Posted 8 years agoOpening the floodgates, feel free to ask me anything, anything at all.
Also saw the new Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle movie and... Wow. What a terrific surprise! This is one of the most fun adventure movies I've seen in a long time. The actors, both the big stars in the game and the unknown (well, to me) actors in the real world do a terrific job and you really believe its the same characters in different bodies. The action sequences are fun, exciting and easy to follow, not headache inducing editing.
I would say those who will probably have the most fun are gamers. If you've seen the trailers, you'll know that instead of a board game its a video game this time, which literally sucks you in. They quickly establish video game rules (lives, npc's, abilities, the ingame map gradually revealing itself, etc.) to both satisfying, hilarious, and clever degrees.
If there's one complaint, the beginning did have some ridiculous product placement with playstation game posters plastered all over the place. It is a gamers room, so it isn't really out of place, but it does feel a little overkill. (its a sony studios movie, so it makes sense) Give them credit though, they do mention Nintendo when they find the Jumanji system and game (probably because the game is cartridge based).
If I remember the original correctly, there is one rule or effect of the game that is changed for this movie over the original, but I felt it was made for the better and added to story and characters. It's not a huge spoiler, but I won't mention it unless someone wants me to.
Overall I highly recommend this movie. There's a reason this movie went from 2nd place at the box office its first two weeks to first its 3rd and 4th weeks. People are discovering this terrific little movie and having a blast with it. Seriously, go and see it.
