KC Furs - Movie meet
Posted 11 years agoTo kick off my monthly movie meet, I've chosen "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"! The venue will be the Cinemark 20 off of Johnson and Antioch Rd. (5500 Antioch, Merriam, KS 66202, or Google Maps for those that need to use GPS navigation.) I do not know if the venue is fursuit friendly, so please call ahead and ask, before bringing your suit!
Adult ticket price is $6.75 per person. Showtime is this Saturday at 7:20, so I suggest we meet up around 7pm, to give everyone time to buy tickets/snacks, etc. If anyone wants to get a bite to eat, there is a Chili's very close to the theater.
I would love for this to be a regular event again, so please bring a friend or two! If you have any questions, please feel free to hit me up here or on twitter: MD_2389

Posted 13 years agoRIP Panda Guy
Posted 13 years agoFound out late last night, that we lost one of our own. Panda Guy has been sick for quite a while now, between having diabetes, and having severe kidney problems. Those problems got so severe that he was on dialysis for the last two weeks, three times a week, five hours a day. Between all of that, and complications from diabetes, his body just couldn't take it anymore.
Regretfully, I only got to talk to him a couple of times, over the last couple of years. However, even in that short span, it's because of Panda Guy that I have memories like this, this, and this. Those are memories that I will cherish, and carry with me for the rest of my life! I remember him getting a lot of pleasure from passing out balloons, knowing full well that some of them would eventually be tied to some random suiter's tail.
Rest in peace
PandaGuy, you will be missed!

MFM2012 Aftermath...
Posted 13 years agoWas definitely an interesting con this year! Saw some familiar faces, and a bunch of not-so familiar ones. Spent half the con pretty much hanging out, since there really weren't that many events to go to this year. I did attend the werewolf games on friday, and sunday nights, as well as Wielder's Moments. Bucktown's concert was nice, but too bad the F4 tornado that struck last night had to ruin it for everyone. :( Did have fun showing
Rocelin13 around, which was the highlight of my weekend, as well as finally meeting
shivakat face to face for the first time. Despite the lack of events, I'm sad that it all came to an end! I will miss you all, and I hope to see you next year!
I will be posting pics/video as time allows.

Domestic violence law repealed in Topeka, Ks., to save money
By Joe Lambe | The Kansas City Star
TOPEKA — The Topeka City Council on Tuesday voted to repeal the city’s law against misdemeanor domestic battery, the latest in a budget battle that has freed about 30 abuse suspects from charges.
One of the offenders was even arrested and released twice since the brouhaha broke out Sept. 8.
It started when Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor announced that a 10 percent budget cut would force him to end his office’s prosecution of misdemeanor cases, almost half of which last year were domestic battery cases.
With that, Taylor stopped prosecuting the cases and left them to the city. But city officials balked at the cost.
Tuesday’s 7-3 vote to eliminate the local domestic violence law was designed to force Taylor to prosecute the cases because they would remain a crime under state law.
The matter has gotten Topeka national attention — and scorn.
“I absolutely do not understand it,” Rita Smith, executive director of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, said after the vote. “It’s really outrageous that they’re playing with family safety to see who blinks first. People could die while they’re waiting to straighten this out.”
Victim advocates fear more such drastic moves as cities and counties face tight budgets at a time when advocates say domestic violence is increasing with the stress of economic hard times.
“I just hope it doesn’t spread,” said Sharon Katz, executive director of Safehome in Johnson County. “There needs to be a higher priority for people who are going to start getting killed.”
At the council meeting, several speakers, including some council members, attacked repealing the city law if only for the message that sends.
Claudine Dombrowski of Topeka threw dice at the podium. That’s what the council is doing with people’s lives, she told them.
She asked: What if the city repealed their law and Taylor still does not prosecute the crime?
“What a way to honor victims and survivors on the 24th anniversary of domestic violence survivors month,” she said.

Posted 14 years agoThis is the concert that
Bucktowntiger held, to benefit Tiger Haven. I tried to make sure, that anyone that pitched in, got face time. I only got an hour and change of the concert, before my battery died on me. The concert itself lasted close to two hours.
Thank you, to all of you that donated!

These are the pictures that I took at MFM this year, some of which aren't posted here on FA. For those of you on a slower connect, be advised that these are straight from the camera! I will be posting videos later, once I get them down to a manageable size for youtube! Seriously, just the opening ceremonies are 2.7GB at 480p via windows live movie maker! It took a little over two hours for that to render, on my desktop!

MFM 2011 Con Report
Posted 14 years agoI have to say, even after a few downs, this was by far the best con experience I've ever had! This year, I roomed with
bucktowntiger and
floppybelly at the con hotel, instead of driving back and forth. Ran into some old friends, and made some new ones! Even went out of my way to play with the fursuiters this year, instead of just snapping random pics. (Especially
Piston and
Paddlefoot, who's suits are cute as hell!) Had one hell of an epic balloon fight, with
JaseHusky,
Taekwo,
GoldenWolf2879, and
BlooHowler
Things I've learned from this con:
Apparently at least 90% of gay men love boobs. (Though all that were asked, as they passed the Dealer's Den pretty much gave a hell yes! I wasn't the one asking though, it was Yukigo Kurosaki! ;))
Robot dogs can be fucking adorable, even when their battery drains to nothing! :P
Alcohol before really funny events, isn't always a good thing. Next year, I'm keeping that to room parties only.
This year, I didn't take near as many pictures, as I did video. I literally have just over six hours of video, totaling a mere 15GB. It took about twenty minutes, to just download it all from the SDHC card! XD I don't think I'll be trimming much of it, so get ready Youtube! :P
Saturday was fairly fun. Bucktown held a second impromptu concert, and later went around the first floor (including the Dealer's Den and Con Suite) trying to raise donations for Tiger Haven. After all of this, I went outside for my turn in the dunk tank (which was also to raise funds for Tiger Haven). Unfortunately this was at the same time as the charity aution, so nobody showed to dunk me. That water was STILL ice cold, from when they dunked Tyger Cowboy two hours prior...which involved the adding of seventy-two pounds of ice! Saturday night, was a busy night in itself! Between running back and forth between the our room on the fourth floor (and I don't mean figuratively..I actually ran back and forth) , and the stage where :bucktowntiger: was setting up shop, the show itself, and the live
knotcast panel immediately afterward (because the people after Bucktown's show never showed up, so we ate up another hour.) I had some rather sore feet that night! :P
Also, since I was staying at the con hotel this year, I decided to partake of some fine booze from
twistedspectrum's room party on the last night of the con. That by itself, was a lot of fun! Some guy even brought his own laser light show, which looked even amazing while I was drunk! :P (I only had about a shot's worth of coconut rum, two shots worth of vanilla whipped cream vodka mixed with A&W, two jello shots (one of which was made with everclear), and some epic vodka spiked fruit punch! Then we all went back to our room, and partook of the purple drank, and I did a couple shots worth of orange pucker (Yes, that's actually what the bottle said! Shush! XD). By that time, I was a veeeery happy doggy! (and by that, I mean drunk, not the other kind of happy! *snickers*)
kyo_foxtrot came to the room, and we all chilled till around 3am.
The next morning, we all started the unhappy task of packing up our things, and leaving. Said goodbye to so many people, than I hung out with! It's only been a day, and I already miss the con! :( A group of us got together, and invaded Leonards Pit BBQ for lunch, and had one last blast before returning to the real world.
So much went on at this con, that it's all a big blur atm! :P If I forgot to mention someone, or something, I apologize! (doesn't help that I'm doped up on cold & cough meds atm, so I'm even more scatter brained than normal!)
Con swag: I ended up buying two copies of Bucktown's "Purring Piano" album (one as a gift, for my mother), and later hit the
Furplanet table for
Kyell's "Isolation Play" and
Blotch's Nordguard: Across Thin Ice. The last two, I've been waiting to get, for a while now! (btw Zia, if you're reading this, I promise that I *will* buy your books too! :P) I also commissioned a B/W con badge from
ConfusedOO, which you can find a scan of on my account.
What concerned me about this year's con, is that the hotel was accidentally double-booked this year. (not the fault of the con, it just slipped through the cracks) There was a family reunion being hosted there as well, which made things VERY interesting. Most of them loved the fursuiters, and even got pictures taken with them! The bad part, was that at around 7:30am on Sat, they decided it was a wonderful idea to fire off a bunch of guns on the hotel grounds! (and I don't mean some little piss-ant pistols either. They had to have been at least high-power rifles or shotguns, from all the noise they made!)
With all that said, I'd like to thank everyone for showing me a good time this year! I can't wait till next year!

The whole "FA is tracking you" draaama
Posted 14 years agoThose of you freaking out about FA tracking your browsing habits on the site, I got news for you: Every single major website does this, whether you realize it or not. Chill the fuck out, and stop making a mountain out of a mole hill! This is the internet ffs! Every time you click around on a website, your traffic is logged by the server, and there is nothing you can do about it! Are you going to bitch about that too?
When life slaps you in the face...
Posted 14 years agoLast night, I got another sobering reminder, to not take things for granted. I got in touch with a non-fur friend of mine last night, after nearly a month of inactivity. Those of you that frequent the #Shopwreckers channel, when
bucktowntiger streams, may remember a guy named Trampler. Well, back on the third of this month, his house was nearly completely burned to the ground, from a grease fire.
His wife was cooking some fried chicken in the kitchen, when the grease caught on fire. Before she could do anything, the cabinets caught on fire. It spread so quickly (all original wood, and the house was built in the 60's, so it was basically kindling..), it was all they could do, to grab what they could, and get out. Sadly, they also lost their cat, in the fire. If you have a facebook account, go to the link below to see the pictures their son took, of the aftermath.
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?.....131.1208629987
They're currently staying with their son, until they can fix the house. The worst part of it all, is that since they're low-income, the house is totally un-insured. So basically, any repairs will be 100% out-of-pocket.
So, if you're living on your own, with roomies, or even if you're still with your folks, cherish what you have. It could all be taken away in a blink of an eye.

Coyotes apparently like Quiznos!
Posted 14 years agohttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/1795083.....s#.TlGm_KiwUsA
CHICAGO — For one day, at least, the roadrunner was safe. It seems the coyote was hankering for another kind of fast food. Employees and customers at a downtown Chicago Quizno's sandwich shop were stunned to see a coyote walk through the propped-open front door Tuesday afternoon and lie down in a cooler stocked with fruit juice and soda.
"It wasn't aggressive at all," restaurant manager Bina Patel told the Chicago Tribune. "It was just looking around."
Employees and customers calmly cleared out of the restaurant, though some took the time to finish their sandwiches and snap some cell-phone photos, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. Animal control officers took the passive coyote away after about 40 minutes, after a curious crowd had gathered outside.
"This one definitely I will definitely remember forever. A coyote in downtown Chicago," Quizno's employee Rick Torres told WLS-TV.
The city captures 10 to 15 coyotes every year, especially in the spring when they are most active, said Anne Kent, director of Chicago Animal Care and Control. Veterinarians will examine the coyote and, if he is not injured, release him into the wild.
