Why I Fursuit
Posted 11 years agoWhen I tell people I took Vignette to Burning Man, I get a lot of people asking me, "Aren't you afraid of destroying your suit?"
If I was, this wouldn't have been possible:
I don't care if it gets dirty or a little damaged so long as I had fun.
I wear my suit because I like being a pretend hyena sometimes, and a little dust in my fur isn't going to stop me from doing it.

ESG and a million other things.
Posted 11 years agoI am the busiest of yeens.
It's been a month since ESG, and this will be my first non-busy weekend. I have nothing planned, and I plan on enjoying it at home with a pool party. :D
Speaking of...
Simply put, ESG was incredible.
I got to dance, in fursuit, at a private party hosted in one of the coolest Las Vegas night clubs, to one of my favorite artists playing live... just for us. I actually ran into Phil the next day at the bar in the lobby and complimented him on his set. He's super chill, and we spent the next 30 minutes or so talking about booze.
I went on a limo ride and crashed a wedding party at the Las Vegas sign.
I learned how to improve my Mint Juleps from one of the worlds foremost mixologists, Max Solano.
I got to watch the sunrise from a pool on the 28th floor of a Vegas hotel.
And I met a ton of new, really awesome people. :)
On a side note, I run registration for the event, and this year was the smoothest it's ever been. We had things set up well in advance, had brand new printers, and everything went smoothly. It went so fast that we hardly had any line! People would come in, show their ID, and be out of the room in less than a minute.
It's always been my favorite con, and not just because I'm a minion.
A lot of people misunderstand the event, and for good reason: it's different. It doesn't have a fully stocked artist alley, there's no dealer den, the panels are few and far between, there is no fursuit "parade", and there are no guests of honor.
What ESG /does/ have is a great venue for you and your friends to make your own adventures happen and meet a lot of amazing people. It doesn't have a lot of events, but that gives you the chance to get out of the hotel and explore! The last few places the event has been have been amazing resorts in really interesting cities! Why spend your time in a game room when you can go spend a day in a theme park? Why sit around in a lobby when you can socialize poolside? Why spend your time at the hotel bar when you can grab some of your friends, rent a big-ass limo, and cruise down the Las Vegas Strip?
Elliott's is a launchpad for greatness. You have every right to stay on the ground, but the sky is the limit. :)

Video Project
Posted 11 years agoHey there!
I may have mentioned it before, but twice a year I attend an event called Playa Del Fuego ( http://playadelfuego.org ). It's a regional Burning Man ( http://burningman.com ) event based in Delaware.
Every year at PDF we run a furry theme camp. In recent years, we've been adding to the furry theme by doing sub-themes. Think of it like a themed furry con.
Here's where you come in...
This year, our theme is a play on the NSA. As part of this theme, we're going to set up a "surveillance van" that has a whole bunch of monitors in it playing videos of various fursuiters doing mundane activities. Think something along the lines of this:
If you'd like to help us out with this, all we need is a video of you doing something boring (in fur suit, of course) for a minimum of 5 minutes. We're looking for things like:
* Doing Laundry
* Watching TV
* Eating Dinner
* Sleeping
* Doing office work
* Etc
We'd prefer videos to be at least 720P @ 60fps. The camera should be in a place that makes it appear as though it's hidden, and any suiters should act as though they're not being recorded.
Videos need to be in by Tuesday, May 20th at the latest.
Videos will be shown to anyone wishing to enter the surveillance van, so you'll have to be comfortable showing your video publicly.
If you're interested, please comment below or send me a note.
Thanks, in advance! I look forward to seeing your videos. :D

Duck Tape
Posted 12 years agoI almost died last night in one of the stupidest accidents imaginable.
If you've been in the fandom long enough, you probably know what a "Duck Tape Dummy" is. I plan on getting a new fursuit made for myself and the maker had asked that I provide one. For those that don't know, it's basically a shell you make of yourself with some long underwear and a lot of duck tape. You cut the tape into small strips and cover your entire torso, then make a few cuts along the sides to get back out. You're left with a shell of yourself that enables the fursuit maker to have a readily available "dummy" to tailor your suit to. You can find examples by doing a google search.
So last night I was at a friend of mine's house to watch the last episode of Breaking Bad with a few friends. My roommate offered to help me with the dummy, so we decided to do it there before the show started. There would be a few other folks there that could help with the process and make it go quicker.
Things went pretty smooth, and it was a really fun process up until I had to get cut out.
Something very few people know about me is that I don't handle the sight--or even the thought--of my own blood very well. Never have. I'm fine with seeing others', and I can typically handle myself given enough fresh air and a little cold water, but last night something unexpected happened.
As my friends were about 80% of the way through cutting me out, one of then happened to knick my arm. It felt a lot worse than it actually was, but I couldn't see it so I started to get worried. I could feel myself starting to go into "squeamish mode". Unfortunately for me, there was no fresh air available with all the duck tape still around me. I started to get hot and dizzy. I needed to sit down and breathe or else I was going to throw up. My friends quickly grabbed a chair and set it behind me.
This is where it gets scary. The dummy was still taped up around my neck, so when I sat down it put pressure in all of the wrong places, cutting off circulation to my head. I was too concerned with the dizziness to notice, and wound up blacking out.
Fortunately for me, I have awesome friends. Two folks at the party were EMT's and knew what was happening immediately. They worked quickly to get the dummy off, and within a few seconds I was back to consciousness. My vision came back first, which was extremely blurry, followed by a lot of strange noise in my ears as the blood flow returned. I couldn't move any part of my body for another few seconds.
When I could finally see again, everyone in the house was circled around me, looking panicked. I had no idea what had happened, but apparently I did a lot of strange things (noises, twitching, etc) while I was out. I felt like I had the worst hangover in history. My entire body was shaking, my head hurt, and my stomach was the most nauseous it's ever felt in my life.
After my friends finally got my cut out of the dummy, I ended up in the fetal position on the kitchen floor with a bucket for the next hour and a half or so while I calmed down. As of this writing, my stomach is still bothering me.
I have to be thankful for the friends I have. Everyone there was really supportive of me.
A note of advice for anyone planning on making a DTD for the first time? Do the neck last, and cut it first.

Artist needed for a sailboat
Posted 13 years agoSo I've been racing sailboats with a good friend of mine for a little over a year now, and he's interested in making a team logo for his boat and team shirts and things. Are there any artists out there who would be interested in doing that kind of thing?
Scribble Photoshoot at FWA
Posted 13 years agoRegistration for Elliott's Spring Gathering is now open!
Posted 13 years agoThis year's Spring Gathering is going to be held at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando. If you didn't have a chance to see it at the breakfast this past weekend, it's an incredible venue!
http://grandcypress.hyatt.com/
Seriously. I've never seen a hotel for a con that was this awesome before. If you've never been before, you're in for a surprise. :D
To register, click here: http://esg.elliottsliveevents.org
Make sure you register for an account and RSVP! They're different things, and a few people have been caught by that in the past. If you didn't get the CONFIRMATION email for Elliott's Spring Gathering 2012, then you haven't registered yet.

Snowboarding Soundtrack
Posted 14 years agoIt's almost time for snowboarding season, so I'm looking to develop a playlist to throw on my android phone to listen to while I'm tearing down the slopes. I've already got a pretty good collection of stuff in iTunes, but I want to experience something new, so I want to try generating at least one playlist based on what you offer me.
I'm trusting you, furries, to give me something awesome, so I'll listen to everything you throw at me at least once. I'm pretty open to all kinds of music, so feel free to suggest anything from any genre.
Current Playlist:
9. vignette - Golden Earring - Radar Love
1. vignette - Wolfmother - Joker and the Thief
11. vignette - Cake - Comfort Eagle
10. vignette - Anandji Kalyanji - My Guru
8. vignette - Flogging Molly - Devil's Dance Floor

Need a Room for FurFright
Posted 14 years agoSo it looks like the entire hotel is sold out, and I need a room for Friday and Saturday night. Anyone have an empty bed I can commandeer for those nights? :D
I can pay for both nights in advance via paypal if you'd like, or cash as soon as I get there.

Posted 14 years agoI need a way to carry my cellphone, 1 credit card, my driver's license, my con badge, and a room key while in fursuit that's easily accessible. I used to keep my cards in my feet and my phone tucked in my undies (I loved attempted phone calls), but it's become impractical, so I'd like something else to use.
No offense to
mrianti, but fanny packs are not an option. ;)

If I go with your suggestion, you're going to be at FWA, and you're over 21, then your first drink's on me. :)
