Seems we’ve been living in a golden age, the age of the untamed internet. If you don’t live in one of a few countries that outright censor the web, then you enjoy access to a veritable wild west of ideas and images. Of course, ideas these days are worth money, and those who profit the most from them, corporations like Viacom and the like, have been scrambling to kill the internet as we know it for years.

Hopefully most people are aware of SOPA by now.

Not much I can say about this ridiculous bill that hasn’t already been said, but I’ve been expecting something like this for a while. I believe that the reason we enjoy such freedom on the net, is because it is such a difficult beast to control, but as governments and corporations gain the power and means to control it, things like having websites disappear without notice will become common, and unremarkable. Even if SOPA, and PIPA are ultimately rejected, other assaults will be in the works, from people who have much more money and influence than you.

Only question in my mind is how much longer the golden age will last.
