Anti-Drama Llama Movement Newsletter
Hey folks, some quick updates I wanna cover real quick before starting the first part of "How To Survive On The Internet".
First, I want to ask our viewers and members what they think is the proper conduct for members of the ADLM (especially those that display our icon in their profile), and also what the appropriate conduct for the person in charge, i.e. Me, should be.
One of the biggest challenges that sometimes comes up is what SHOULD the behavior of ADLM members and staff be like? Are there certain things we simply can't do? Would not doing those things be against human nature? Can we even live up to said expectations?
I've said before that us here on FA are all human, and thus make mistakes. But does that mean we should suppress all anger? All frustration? All passion and feeling? Are we supposed to all go like the Vulcans on Star Trek?
I want to ask you folks that since I want to know what you feel is appropriate and what isn't. And for those that violate such conduct, what consequences should there be, if any?
Second, while I've advocated before about not blocking people who criticize the movement, even going so far as to let obvious trolls just get whatever it is they want to say or do out of their system, I think the time has come that people who are clearly out to just cause trouble here on the FA pages need to be blocked.
One reason for this comes from consulting with the admins here on the FA. Admins are all FOR blocking for RIGHT reasons. If someone is pestering you, bothering you, and trying to cause trouble, then everyone has the right to block them. If blocking was so taboo and bad, then the block option wouldn't even be there. This is something I'll be addressing in more detail in the "How To Survive On The Internet" essays since I think knowing when and when not Block is an important skill people need to know about.
And again, I want to know what you think about this. Have I been too lenient in letting trouble makers on here? Should that change? Or should I not block anyone to truly allow everyone an open voice?
I should also note that if I did block someone here, that doesn't mean I'd block them on my personal page. If they wanted to contact me for whatever reason, even if blocked here, they could always reach me there, at

The first part of "How To Survive On The Internet" is being written as we speak, and I'm devoting the first "Chapter" to "Image on the Internet: How You Present Yourself and the Dos and Don'ts"
Before posting it, I'm going to have a rough draft read over by some members to make sure everything looks and reads right. I want to make sure it comes out as best as it can.
Topics in this section will include:
1) "Pictures Of Yourself: How what you post, where you post it, and when you post can make a difference."
2) "Personal Information: Where the line between acceptable and TMI is."
3) "Privacy: How to keep modern technology from spreading info about you."
4) "Interpersonal Circles: Who can you trust with what information?"
5) "Secrets: What do you want some people to see and others not?"
This basic section helps make sure people know ways to avoid spam bots, phishing sites, and how to protect their real lives from getting smeared by what they do online. With potential employers doing Google Searches (and other searches) for potential employers, sometimes what they find online can determine whether you get hired or not. On top of that, personal information can also be leaked to people that would then find some way to use it against you.
Knowing these basics will make for the foundation of the rest of the sections and essays.
In our Favorites section, two new Drama Llama related images from
hibbary and
loki_blackfang have been added. :) Check out their other art too and meet some cool people.
At the ADLM, any drama-llama or anti-drama-llama art is considered awesome. The expressions, the cartoony faces, they've given me and others a fair share of laughs and giggles. Even art that was meant to satire or poke fun at the ADLM as a whole is, on their own grounds, quite funny.
A Good Sense Of Humor Is A Great Anti-Drama-Llama Weapon.
So whether critical, supporting, or just for the fun of it, pics of the Drama-Llama are quite awesome in my book. :) If you see any drama-llama art out there, let us know and it just might end up in the Favorites section! :)
Finally, I am looking for new recruits for ADLM volunteers and staff. I've got a few other things I want to launch in addition to "How To Survive On The Internet", and I'm going to need more help if they are to succeed. We're also still looking for folks to help with the newsletter account over at
adlm_daily_spotlight since our current volunteers are having trouble finding time to make sure it gets out each day.
In addition, I'm also thinking of stepping down soon. My real life is getting much more hectic, and I'm not finding myself with enough time to keep up with all the needs the ADLM must meet if it's to expand and do more. On top of that, I myself have my critics who say that I am not fit to lead anymore. So regardless, if anyone thinks they can take on the responsibilities and challenges of the ADLM, I'd be more than happy to show them the ropes, show them what I've learned, what mistakes I've made so they can be avoided, and introduce them to some of the contacts that I've made.
It's not a final decision, but I'd like to think that if I had to leave the ADLM someday just like that, then there'd be someone ready to step up to the plate.
That's about all I have to say right now. Only other thing I want to add is that I'm pleased to see more people watching this group, but while things are going underway here, I REALLY want folks to also watch the
adlm_daily_spotlight
There are a lot of folks out there in dire straights who need some cash to get by. But most of them aren't slouchers, and are open for commissions at dirt cheap prices. They need the money, they work for their money, and you get some cool art in the process! Win-Win!
On top of that, you can learn a thing or two by seeing who could use some tech support and read the responses they get, or offer some advice of your own. You can also see who's looking for local friends in their area, and who's going to which conventions; perfect if you need to find a roomie for your hotel room, or if you're looking for one to share.
Watching this list gives you up to date info on who needs help, and even if all you can do is offer some kind words, that can make a world of difference for some people. So check it out! :)
