Okay, my prognostication is that we will have full equality for gays within two years. Either the US Supreme court will hear the case and rule these kinds of anti gay measures to be unconstitutional, or there is another possibility.

As for the first possibility, when the 9th circuit rendered their decision, they cited the SCOTUS chief justice's own decision in Romer v Evans by stating that it is unconstitutional to single out an unpopular minority with the intent to restrict their rights or standing within the society.

Now, the supreme court could simply refuse to hear the prop 8 case, and allow the 9th circuit's decision to stand. Which in all likelihood is what is going to happen.

So only California would be affected by the 9th circuit's decision.

BUT, you still have a federal court ruling that anti gay laws are unconstitutional.
All that needs to happen is for someone in all of the other states where these measures have passed is to file a lawsuit and viola! No more anti gay laws!

It still wouldn't necessarily mean that gay people would be able to marry in Arkansas. But with a few more lawsuits, gay folks would start gettin' hitched in the land of the boll weevil!
