It's Christmas Eve, and it's going to be another wild day of family and presents.
Out of all the presents I could of gotten, my brother being able to fly in though the Chicago snow from Florida, even if seven hours delayed, is the best present of all. No, were not tight, but yes, we are brothers. And now that we are all in our 30s and 40s, and mom and dad are in their 70s, each year we can spend together as a whole is the best present in itself.
I'm no stranger to loss, and I know some very hard days loom on the horizon. But until then and maybe most importantly even still then, it's good be thankful for these times together. In this silent of nights tonight, find a place where god has touched your heart and be glad and be warm.
For us in the northern hemisphere, winter solstice has already passed and the days are getting longer. For us in Chicago, it's the promise that in a few months spring will be on it's way. So basically I just want to wish all my friends here a Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, and a Happy New Year!
