Base beleifes and politics
I know this will not reach a lot of people, particularly because I'm not an artist, but I think it's important for people to consider political thought before you always go hard left, or hard right or whatever. Don't follow the crowd just for the sake of following the crowd. If you have views, be sure you are able to defend them. But also be open to new ideas, no matter what they may be. Digest it until you personally understand why you can agree or disagree with the idea.
Here's an example. Let's say I'm a very committed catholic, and I believe there is a god, and I obey the bible to the last line. That is my base belief where all of my other beliefs build onto it. Now let's bring in the idea of gay marriage. Because I'm a catholic, and my beliefs are based on the bible, I believe homosexuality is wrong, so I wouldn't support it. On the flipside, still being a catholic, I could support the religious freedoms of others and only keep my beliefs to myself, and say they should have the right to marry because it wouldn't involve me.
That was one extreme example. Now, my base belief is all based on the freedom of individual persons, being able to do what they want, so long as it does not affect others in a negative way. For example, I easily support the right for homosexual marriage, polygamous marriage, and the legalization of the safer illegal drugs (i.e. marijuana). However, these I will only support of people don't affect others through these activities, like don't smoke pot in public, do so in the privacy in the home and do so responsibly, similar to how alcohol is regulated in the united states. Another stipulation is the addiction side of it. I believe that people can make smart decisions, so if you decide to be a junkie for the rest of your life, don't expect someone to pay your life, i.e., tax someone who is successful (rich), then use that money to pay your food stamps, rent, etc. Responsibility is a huge part of it.
All of those beliefs, come from my original base belief. I don't care what you support, just be able to support in such a way, that you can explain your ideas to your base belief, so based on your base, people can learn to agree with you and think you make a lot of sense, you call you kookie. After all, fair's fair.
