i've been wanting to make a post like this for quite some time. Feel free to add to this list if you'd like.

AND DEAR LORD, THIS IS LIGHT HEARTED AND FUN AND NOT MEANT TO SINGLE OUT/ATTACK/ETC ANYONE.

just some observations.

so, there are all sorts of commenters on FA. here is my interpretation of some of them :

1) the fanboy/girl : a person who comments on/ +Favs all of your work, blindly, even if it sucks. Period. I do not deserve fanboys/girls. When I level up artwise, then maybe.

2) the nitpicker : this is the person who will not comment on the good aspects of your work, but will instead remind you only of how you screwed up somehow. For example, I have had someone comment to tell me there was a PIXEL OF ORANGE in the white of a character's eye. The Nitpicker also produces a subgenre, the Spell Checker.

3) the know-it-all: this person will beam in, usually at random, to give self important (sometimes useless) information about the subject/picture in question. Said person will usually throw a fit if their information is questioned in return. More often than not, the know it all is incorrect.

4) the wannabe /b tard will beam in at random, usually leave a one or two word comment on the picture in question, that normally has nothing to do with the picture at all. but they think they're funny, so we just pat them on the head like a retarded child and let them continue on thinking so.

5) the one word commenter will leave such gems as "neat"and "cool" on every single picture. now, i am guilty of occassional one word comments, yes. but for this category, the one word commenter ONLY leaves one word, evar.

6) the RP commenter : normally wants to pet/rub/murr at/fuck the subject of the drawing, and will proceed to act out their fantasy in the comment box. I have RP commented before, mostly to the tune of "*flails*" and whatnot. Speaks entirely like they are RPing on AIM or in a MUCK.

7) the passive aggressive commissioner : this is someone who has commissioned you recently. these arent bad people, of course! but this is one of my pet peeves. this person will normally comment on what you've drawn recently, and hint at their commission. for example, THIS IS SO AWESOME I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MINE/HOW IS MINE COMING/ WHEN WILL MINE BE DONE/ETC. this annoys me because i prefer business to be discussed via email only. business is private. This is even worse when the person leaves this comment in a Shout, because it makes you (the arteest) look like a dick. GRANTED SOME ARTISTS DESERVE THIS, but...

8) the woe-is-me commenter : this person likes your art. this person responds to any/all commission posts by saying I WISH I COULD BUY ONE BUUUUUUUUUUUUT (fill in the blank example of why why why)..... and generally makes you feel like an asshole because you wish you could art for free, and do gifts more often, but this is your living.

9 the TMI commenter : this person will, for whatever reason, tell you EVERYTHING you ever didnt want to know. like about their vaginal itches, or their fecal matter fetish, or that they have sex with their sister's mother's brother's daughter's cousin in law.

10. the overly critical commenter : not to be confused with the nitpicker. This commenter willl break down and anazlyze even a 10 minute doodle, and generally leaves you feeling like an asshole because critter X's left ear is 2 milimeters taller than it's right ear.

11. the constructive critique-er : helpful helpful helpful. Will not give you asspats and tell you the art is awesome, but will not make you feel like a dick either. I love people like these. I need to know how to improve. Critique is how we learn. But some people get rather confused as to what actual critique is, you see. I had a guy "*yawn*" at a collab picture I did with Dragoneer (that i never wanted posted, actually) and I asked him why, and he told me he was just being honest, and didn't I want critique instead of asspats? HELLO DICKHEAD. HOW IS *YAWN* GOING TO HELP ME IMPROVE MY WORK IN ANY WAY. THAT IS NOT CRITIQUE.

12. does not understand english: neither good nor bad, but sometimes I think they're not actually saying that they think they're saying ;)

13. the bestiality enthusiasts ; will normally comment on IRL pictures of people's dogs, cats, and various assorted zoo animals, saying what they would "like to do to that animal"... and are then shocked and defensive when other people comment to them and call them sick bastards. MY DOG IS INTO MY COCK, I SWEAR. Uh. UH. JUST NO, PLEASE.

14. the oblivious commenter : will manage to ask you the same question you've been asked a thousand times, the answer to which is either in the description of the picture, in your profile, or a very obvious fact. For example, people telling   betelguese that he looks like Beetlejuice. WTF, PEOPLE.

15. the emo commenter : will try to drag something positive out of you in return. For example, "MY ART SUCKS SO BAD BUT I WANT TO DRAW YOU SOMETHING", in which case you must pat them on the head and tell them their art does not suck, or they will feel bad. the emo commenter will also counter with "i never get commissions/i'm not good enough to do them/i dont get enough pageviews/etc"

16. the +Fav nazis : this is more of an artist thing than a comment thing. these are the people who get pissed when you +fav and do not comment. who the fuck cares? i'm happy people like my work enough to fav it at all. i don't need a detailed dissertation as to why they like it. Hell, sometimes I just like things, period. I have nothing to say, I just think it's cool.

17. the FA SUCKS/THE ADMINS SUCK commenter : will somehow pull the Administration into every issue they possibly can.

18. the dramachan commenters : a cool bunch IMO. i read dramachan, it's like watching soap operas play out on the internet. but you know you've done something epicly stupid when the dramachan folks start hanging around/commenting on whatever it is. that means shit is about to snowball. grab some popcorn and hit refresh.

19. the normal commenter : stops by occassionally, leaves an insightful/heartwarming/positive comment. HEARTS <3

20. the brown noser : wants Free Art, period.

21. the price griper : thinks you charge WAY TOO MUCH FOR YOUR ARTZ (nevermind that this could be your living) and reeaaaaally wants you to know about it.

22. the control freak : wants you to draw what they want to see, and makes sure you know alllll about it. Sample comment: "THIS WOULD BE BETTER IF IT WAS A HUSKY/HAD BIGGER TITS/WAS A HERMTAUR WITH SHITTING DICKNIPPLES ALSO MADE UP OF MINIATURE DICKNIPPLES THAT SHIT"

23. the thankful artist : again, not necessarily a bad thing, but "thanks for the Fav" and "thanks for the Watch" make up the majority of their communication on FA.
