Wolf shares his food
So I brought him some kind of healthy organic bone shaped treat. He enjoyed it... And my instincts (Ignore them and perish) told me, "he is at peace with you." He allowed me to lay next to him this close, with his food (Those light brown things) right there between us as he chewed it. Now, I did not raise this wolf. I did not know this wolf until he was about middle- aged.
I had a feeling that he would end up a good friend of mine, even though he was segregated for being aggressive, and only two people allowed in with him at the time. Well, it turned out that feeling was well founded. Some dogs will not allow anyone this close to their food. I know how protective a wolf can be of their food. Actually, in the wild, it's life and death, protecting their food, even from other wolves. I have seen it in the other wolves.
Once they have a food item, you do *not* go near it, or them. During feeding time, late in the day, access is denied barring a dire emergency. Period. But he was different. He totally trusted me. Once he brought me a cow bone and laid down directly next to me. I could smell his wolf breath (Which isn't that bad, actually) as he sheared the strips of bone with his razor sharp back teeth, literally an inch from my face. He was saying to me, "Dude, have some of this bone with me. It's great!" But... Did he ever growl at me for a food item? Yes, actually.
Once, I totally forgot I was wearing a blue Napa Racing hat in his pen one day. He simply stood up on his back legs, took it from my head (I'm 6'1" tall. When he stands on his back legs we are eye to eye), and laid down- eating it. I bent down to retrieve it and he growled at me.
It's wolf for, "Dude, you wore the hat in my pen, stupid. Now it's mine. Tough."
In a futile human protest I lay right next to him as he ripped it to shreds. I dared not reach for it. It was his, now.

I have pictures of him eating it. Yes, I would have loved to get it on video, he took it with no effort on his part. I was left standing, thinking... "Um. What just happened?"
Thank you for those kind words. It was 75% an outright love for all things wolf, and 25% pure survival while I am in a cage with a wild animal that helped me to be able to read them like books.

Dogs too make the choise even if you feed them :) Yes wolves too :) For example, i have a dog, a caucasian shepherd, this is very wayward and serious dogs, and if they dont want to trust you even if you a they owner, they dont trust you. My mother always feed our dog, he is a boy, but he loves and trust me more then my mother, i dont know why, but it's always all my life, dogs trusts me much and cats ^^
I understand this. Certain dogs make a choice as well :) You are very right. It's my opinion that those people with a gentle heart and kind spirit, dogs and wolves can see. If you are unafraid, and you genuinely care for the wolf- you would have the same effect on the wolf.
Anyone who thinks dogs do not have a sixth sense about people need to spend some time around a wolf :)

Yes, my dog was so different. The old owners were so terrible! They messed with her head so badly. :(
Now i simply give a little reminder with a steady growl and a watchful eye and she remembers what im capable of, and how hunger hurts.
It may be a little aggressive of a method for most americans. But it is life or death for dogs in america who "attack" humans necks "for no reason."
I forced respect through pain.
You have obtained true respect around food, (the source of life, the most important thing for all k9, wolf) from a bond.
Bravo for you. :)

Yes, most people suck when it comes to owning animals.
Its like they expect them to be humans with fur?? Morons.
I did what i HAD to do. If i had time to create a respectful bond with her then i would have. But i didnt. Either she show immediate positive results or she be killed.
And she was so full of life and joy, i couldnt let her be murdered. So i used my power over her to gain fear based respect. Because after all withholding food is simply another force dominance based method of breaking an animal. -.- I had to do what i had to do.
And now that we actualy have a better bond, life is good for us both.

I remember when i got my dog, a rescue. Literaly attacked me daily. -.- It ended up me not feeding her until she was weak. Then she just feared or respected me with the food.
Not all dogs are the same..
The GOOD thing about wolves is they arent usualy as socialy damned. -.-
It really is a honor to be respected with food. Good for you!

XD It's easy for me to get inside of myself and get all depressed (Other issues) but the truth is I am so blessed. A Native American once told me it is a sacred honor to have a wolf bond to you... Not many people can say that. Sometimes even people who work with them every day don't bond with them on the level I was so blessed to experience.
Ceaser millian is a lot of force dominance. We are in america though. And dog owners are terrible and just plain stupid when it comes to thier dogs needs and communication. Its like they are so stupid that they dont even try to listen to thier animal.
There is not much you can do with these stupid humans than teach them a little bit about thier animals needs. Also a tiny bit about how to understand and communicate with the animal. A lot of force has to be used on these poor animals. Even though they are messed in the head BECAUSE of the owners. -.-

I agree, a lot of people treat their dog like it's a commodity and nothing more. It's really sad. And the dog does everything it can to fit in and please the human. Well, you have to acknowledge that there is some aspect of the domesticated dog that allows for our own lack of ability, (Or desire) to interact with them on their own level. They meet us more than halfway, I believe.
I knew neko for a couple months. We bonded right away. Never been another wolf.. or even dog or hybrid, like him. He unfortunatly was killed because of humans. They pushed him to his limits and ignored his multiple warnings. He pretty gently told them "im afraid for my life" with his teeth. And they killed him because he was "vicious." -.- He didnt do much damage, like i was saying, it was fear, he created space between him and the stupid twat face lady, and then retreated. Yet they still killed him. Fucking morons. I miss him. But life must move on. That was a LONG time ago.
Oh man, reminds me of a sad story I had when I worked in a dog kennel almost twenty years ago. I didn't see the red "Vicious" tag and reached in and grabbed the German Shepherd with out any fear, and leashed him and took him for a walk. It wasn't until I got back that i realized, oh nos, he's a vicious doggy! According to whom? Well, I always was able to leash him and take him for walks. It came time to euthanize him and I begged the vet not to. I said he wasn't mean... I tried to figure out a way of sparing his life by boarding him, but I could not afford it. I was with him when they killed him at least.
I'm so sorry to hear about Neko. People just do not know their language. That's why people can get hurt so bad... It's not the wolf's fault! *YOU* did not read it! *YOU* ignored your instincts and now look! never was there a time when I was afraid, or injured by a wolf where it was the wolf's fault. Does it happen? Sure! Wolves are almost as diverse as human beings. Some are mean. Sure- so are some people.
Why was a woman not versed in their body language allowed in with him?

Wow.. your old. :P Im only 22 years..
Im sorry about the GSD. They are a great breed, i love them deeply. I worked at shelters too. But it was too sickining for me, i eventualy got to upset, i couldnt go back.
Im sorry that people suck. And instead of trying to understand animals, they simply destroy them. Hes resting in peace with neko boy.
I feel the same, never have i felt like it was the animals fault when i was injured. Then agian i havent been injured too badly.. because i try my best to keep away from any situations where the animal actualy feels threatened enough to protect himself. But, one time i almost lost my left eye near my 17th birthday to a lovely husky wolf hybrid. -.- I was distracted by the owner shouting at her at the moment, and leaned over becoming a threat to her. I wasnt paying attention enough with shouting people near me.
Actualy.. heres the crazy thing. I was what, 16 years old or so. I myself wasnt even alowed to go into the kennel to fetch him for the vet. Not old enough. And so they sent an older woman with "paper experience" or a special animal certification... I waited outside and watched. And most of the time he kept throwing signals her way, she kept on pushing him.. way to quickly for him. Its like she couldnt see he was telling her hes scared... And then when she had a pole about 10 feet from him.. (all stretched out like hes a monster right) he finally went for her, gave her a nip, and ran away and hid agian. They then got out, demanded i not go in the kennel. Drugged him with food, and hours later, then the vet killed him.
They sent in the "older, certified animal handler".. If i went in i would have had him drugged and ready for the vet in like 30 minutes. No crazy ass poles needed.

well said..*speaking as wolf self* there is only one person I would let be that close to my food and even let her take some. that person would be my mate. if u r another human back off its mine..u want some.. tough. (you were right the army did lead me to a wolf sanctuary) everything you have said IS true about wolves I couldn't be happier I feel at peace around them.
