Yeah, I have a feeling that was a trojan running under the name of explorer.
Explorer is the program that controls the display of you computer, so trojans want to look like something you dont want to fuck with.
If Vista started blocking the real explorer, I think your screen would have vanished and all you could see would be your desktop picture.
