After a long time, I decided to draw my main character again. I kinda lost him in the last time, mainly because I was not sure in which direction he should go, but also because too many friends and users (sure in the best will) suggested too many variations and ways. I got confused, tried to put too many into him.
And lost him. I was not able to draw him any more.
As a very funny, nearly hilarious fact, it was yesterday. I watched TV with my parents, had to get up early for school. In TV, they brought after a long time the 1950's Disney version from "Treasure Island". During that movie, which I was - to my own surprise - able to synchronize even after 6 years without seeing him, it happened. I started doodling, I even did not look closely what I drew. And in that very moment, when the buccaneers dipped the Union jack and hoisted the Jolly Roger while singing their song, I checked what I actually doodled. And I found him again. He went back to me, as strange as this may sound. He got that strange little smile and that serious look, like "Hey, are you accepting me like I was ever supposed to be? So here I am."
I made the big mistake to search for existing models. Because I wanted him to be liked, by everyone. Foolish enough, I have seen Alain Delon in him, Errol Flynn, I tried to change his look into the "Black Swan" type.
But he is not one of them. He never was, and never should have been.
He is not a hero everybody love at the very first sight.
He is not a dark hearted villain.
He is not Errol Flynn.
He is not a prince or a softy.
He is noone who asked for being loved or even try to.
He is a pirate.
That's what he always was, will ever be, what I forgot to long.
A friend said he looked now like Che Guevara in Hook's coat. maybe he is right. I do not care. Both that guys are part of my spirit, my soul.
