Sorry for the recent lack of Equestria dreamscape related material. Here is one of the ponies I've met who lives around Ponyville. Both her and her family are some of the best hunters in the kingdom. Mushroom hunters that is. Her name is Death Cap.
Now just like in our world there are many types of mushrooms that range from edible, medicinal and deadly poisonous, and their names run the full gamut to.
There are ones ordinary mundane names like white, brown, spotted white, black, swirl cap.
There are ones with fanciful names like Princesses Wings, Violet Unicorn Horn, Dragon's Fire, Scarlet Waterfall, and Ancestors Gift.
There are ones that rather vulgar names like Magic Horseapple, or The Passionate Stallion.
There are ones with very ominous names like Death Cap, Frothing Death, Final Meal, Long Sleep, or Corpse Maker.
Death Cap and her family have been harvesting and hunting mushrooms in the valley before there was a Ponyville. For generations they've roamed the Whitetail Woods, Everfree Forest and countless other remote locations looking for their prey. Most of their finds go to Canterlot, in fact the mushrooms that Petina, Carousel and I enjoyed at Verdant Fields http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7812654/ were the result of Death Cap and her family's effort.
Although Death Cap is young mare she has become the top mushroom hunter in her family. She got the name Death Cap because her gray body and black and red mane and tail are exactly the same colors as the Death Cap mushroom. Later she acquired a Death Cap mushrooms as her cutie mark. Now growing up with a name like Death Cap will have an effect on your personality and relationships. Death Cap is basically a perky goth pony with a somewhat snarky attitude. With her rugged panniers and her trusty well worn copy of the most essential of reference guide for pony mushroom hunters "Will this kill me?" she is constantly on the hunt for her next find.
Death Cap is also one of Ponyville's experts when it comes to the Everfree Forest since she spends so much time in it. She's had several close calls in there but still she goes back in to it. She also frequents the earth pony cemeteries in the area in a search of her most elusive, and cherished of finds. The Ancestors Gift. These mushroom are very rare but seem to have a strange symbiotic relationship with cemeteries and graveyards. Their flavor sought by the finest restaurants in Equestria. Either fresh or dried they literally worth their weight in gold and they have made the family many bits over the years. Her association with graveyards has also contributed to her goth-like reputation.
To be continued.

It is now occurring to me, having seen Death Cap, that I have to wonder how mane length is handled as a social matter in pony society. It's obvious styling your mane is indeed part of their culture (see Rarity), but what social implications are made to having it long, short, and in varying degrees of coiffure may say much about social status and interaction.
With all due considerations to the analog matters in human society, it could be quite the interesting study.

Well I do know that Death Cap keeps her mane and tail relatively short because she spends a fair bit of time crawling in, around, over, and under bushes, shrubs, and brambles, and she doesn't wish to become entangled with the local plant life too much while pursuing her prey.
The real-world Death Cap bears a strong resemblance to a couple other commonly-eaten mushrooms, notably the Straw Mushroom, which tends to grow in the same areas. We actually had some folks kill off most of their family a few years back with some mushroom stew. Death Caps don't have markings IRL, and look like they SHOULD be something tasty...
