A little about the species....
Name: In the works
Lifespan: 45-50 years
Basic info: These dragons are mostly aquatic creatures that can reside in either fresh or salt water. Known as "the collies of the sea", each dragon maintains a school of anywhere from 50-200 fish. School size depends on the size of the fish, as well as the location of the school, which only contains fish of the same species. These dragons are omnivorous. They mostly eat vegetation and maverick fish (i.e. unclaimed schools) unless food becomes scare, in which case they will eat fish from their own schools. They have immense respect for others of their breed, and are hardly ever seen stealing from another dragon's school.
Life Cycle: 2-4 eggs are layed yearly, which are kept underwater until the dragons hatch. Each hatchling is born pure white, and markings will develop within the first few months. As soon as the yound dragon is strong enough to swim, they are given a single fish from the parents school, and are responsible for it. The dragons form a strong bond with their first fish, and will develop markings simillar to the fish's own. when the dragon reaches 5 years, the parents will give the young dragon a small school, and send them on their way. Once on their own, they can find mates and collect more fish to expand their school.
Physiology:
The size of a dragon will vary depending on the size of the fish they herd. Dragons that keep small fish will be smaller in order to better navigate freshwater rivers of coral reefs, while dragons that protect dolphins or certain species of tuna are more likely to be much larger. Males are slightly larger than females. Each dragon's markings with be closely related to the species it protects. Colors and patterns will not vary outside of the natural boundaries. Each dragon also has a sail, which is used to help steer fish, and a finned tail. These will take on the characteristics of the fish's respective fins. Females with have longer tail fins than males. Their toes are webbed for better swimming. Horns are decorative and usually small. Each dragon can spit a sticky goo from their mouth much like a spider's webbing, which can be used in a variety of ways. If it wishes to leave its school unattended in order to look for food, it will herd it's school into a net created with this webbing and stick the netting to a rock, or other solid object. It keeps the fish in one location. Naturalally secreted proteins in the dragon's saliva dissolve the webbing and keep it from sealing its mouth shut.
And that's all for now. This is currently a CLOSED SPECIES. However, if you would be interested in making one NOTE ME and we might be able to figure something out.
