The orb was the only way she could keep sane, keep the depression at bay. Keeping it safe and in her possession at all times was the only way the orb's power could function properly. But she knew eventually the orb's power may run out or not be enough. And on a night when she was staring up at the stars as she always does, she felt particularly broken.
She longed to fly more than anything; wanted her precious wings to set her sailing in that amazing sea of stars. She fluttered them but could not become airborn, no matter how hard she tried. She held her orb between her paws as her tail's hand stretched her wings out so she could look at them. She stared at them for a long while, wondering why she had been given such amazing and ingenuitive appendages only for them to be taken away from her. What sealed such a fate for her?
Octave huffed, closing her eyes tightly as she began to cry. She lowered her head and sulked in the middle of the large field she'd spent so many nights in. She'd only ever seen one other animal in the field, a white feline that had bright, seemingly-glowing colors. So bright that squinting to see the feline so far off would hurt after a while.
As she cried there in self pity, she heard the noise glass makes as it cracks. Her eyes burst open to behold her orb slowly cracking before her. Two large cracks gradually progressed towards the middle of the orb.
She sat there in pure shock as her entire body grew heavier, thoughts of darkness and negativity seeping into her conscience. She shuddered as visions and wishes of self harm over-came her, tears flowing endlessly. She closed her eyes tightly as she tried desperately to escape the inevitable but only saw horrible fates behind her eyelids.
And as Octave quivered beneath the moonlight, the white feline with blinding colors appeared unto her, a menacing smile upon it's muzzle. It stared at Octave with a hypnotic gaze and spoke a welcoming but in the harshest of tone.
"Welcome to insanity."

I decided not to post these twos' refs on FA so they can be found here -

It took some time to type that short-story, ugh x.x Anyways, I put my two new self-designed characters to use :3 In ways, they both do represent insanity and depression. This really just came to me. As soon as I designed Octave I wanted to draw her with her head down. But then I drew more to her and added her orb with cracks. Psychosis kinda creeped into the pic. Ironicly enough If you read Octave's back-story this picture will make more sense.
I had to actually stare at my hand to get her tail's fist right xD And the wing was referenced as well because I didn't want to half-ass it like I did on her ref. The background... Could be better Ah well.. Over-all I'm happy with how this turned out.
