Aurum, a golden and cobalt unicorn mare, was a frequent visitor to Blackwater Manor, showing up every couple of years to visit Neron. Of all the unicorns who had visited the grounds over the years, she was the friendliest towards non-unicorns. As time passed, her visits got longer and longer until she was spending more time "visiting" than away.
Though her original motivation for staying was her affection for Neron and, to a lesser extent, Arden, Aurum bonded with Malachi when they met in a manner similar to Sylvan and Neron's. Though she had never before considered allowing a human to ride her like a common horse, something about the sorcerer changed her mind and she finally understood Neron's reasons for partnering with and serving his mistress. Aurum lived on the grounds of Blackwater Manor with her mate, Neron, and partner, Malachi, from then on. She shared Neron's special barn when cold or wet weather made being outdoors less than comfortable, an improvement over her old lifestyle when she had to hope trees or other natural shelters would be sufficient to keep her somewhat dry and comfortable.
Aurum served Malachi well when the time came for him to ride into battle alongside his wife. The sorcerers and their unicorn partners worked as a team, able to anticipate and coordinate their attacks and movements in ways only those with great familiarity with one another could. More often, though, they went on peaceful rides through the forests and along the roads of Blackmarch, keeping their land safe and checking the welfare of their people.
