Ironically I don't think they are that kind of insectoid. From what we know they must feed on love to survive not each other in some cannibalistic way that doesn't make a lot of sense to me for some insects & arachnids. Plus this kinda doesn't show Chrysalis as the kind & loving queen she is for her subjects since she was trying to save them from starvation & all.
Still this is a pretty good comic.

I see the changelings as somewhat sociopathic- while they fight and work for the good of the queen and colony, they themselves are incapable of feeling love for anything, thus their need to feed off of it.
As for eating her own young, Chrysalis only does that during times of extreme famine.
Or if there's nothing good in the fridge.
Or if she can't be arsed to go to the all-night gas station.
Or really whenever.
