As Tacki and Lucky Find set off on their quest to unite ponies and dragons, Yosh and Dawnbreak Horizon headed for lands unknown. Their mission was to see if further friendships, alliances, and/or trade agreements could be made with those countries whose borders were far beyond those of Equestria.
"Seek out Zecora within the Everfree Forest," guided Princess Celestia. "Little is known of where she is from and it is time we found out."
Dawnbreak was eager to prove himself to the princess and took the first train straight to Ponyville. Twilight Sparkle had yet to move here by this point, so there was little ado about his arrival beyond a crazed, pink pony with a "Party Cannon" insisting he let her give him a proper, Ponyville welcome.
After miraculously giving Pinkie Pie the slip, Yosh and Dawnbreak Horizon happened upon Fluttershy. She was very excited about the strange "duck" who accompanied Dawnbreak. However, she suddenly lost interest as the two two headed straight into the Everfree Forest.
As expected, various creatures and traps attempted to hinder the forward progress of Yosh and Dawnbreak Horizon. However, the pair was ready with a variety of magical tools coupled with Dawnbreak's advanced knowledge of magic and monsters.
It wasn't long until they came upon the home of a zebra named Zecora. She spoke in rhymes and riddles, but it was pretty easy to make out how she felt about ponies. Those within nearby Ponyville never seemed to be around when she would venture into town to buy supplies. At first she thought the town had been abandoned, but further investigation revealed it was a thriving city in which, for whatever reason, feared her.
This was Dawnbreak's big chance. He explained to Zecora that he and Yosh would journey to her homeland and make relations with the zebra who lived there. Zecora seemed pleased, but she didn't really explain why she never bothered to return to her homeland despite her poor treatment by the Equestrian ponies.
As Dawnbreak prepared to disembark for Zecora's homeland, Yosh felt a connection between himself and Zecora. After all, like her, they both were seemingly misunderstood for who they were and how looked.
"A dragon in diapers others may see, she told Yosh. "But those who care will come to know you for more. Indeed."
Yosh felt comforted by her rhymes and kind demeanor. He wished they could've stayed just one more day to get to know her better. However, Dawnbreak was ready to go and when Dawnbreak was ready, he was READY.
Yosh waved farewell to Zecora as Dawnbreak used his magic to take the simple form and appearance of an Earth Pony. He knew the best offense was a good defense, or disguise in this case.
What would Dawnbreak Horizon and Yosh find beyond the Everfree Forest? Would Dawnbreak ever be able to understand that Yosh didn't purposely wet and/or mess himself? Would Yosh ever get to do more than be a scribe who hid in the bushes? Would the duo safely reach Zecora's homeland? These answers, and more, are up to you as the story of Celestia's Chosen continues...

therainbowtroll did a super-awesome job on this. She also helped to give me more ideas for what separates Dawnbreak Horizon from Twilight Sparkle.In the series that I've appeared to have gotten started, Twilight and Dawnbreak know each other and, often, have disagreements on how something should be done. They are both prodigies, but each have their own unique techniques that Celestia has figured out.
As Twilight is set to become the one to free Princess Luna from her curse of being Nightmare Moon, Dawnbreak is meant to be well off on his adventures of acquiring knowledge of and building relationships with outside cities, states, and countries. Meanwhile, Tack and Lucky Find are making an effort to befriend dragons. This being largely due to so many dragon eggs being found and the need to know more about them. Especially as dragons do migrate through Equestria.
Hopefully an overall "Everyone is busy and getting stuff done" element is being captured through all these tales. It is my hope to keep them fun, original, and believable with just a dash of fan service for those who like their dragons diapered. :)
Your comment is quite bittersweet, my friend. I super-duper appreciate the nice comment knowing of how much you have enjoyed the series. However, I don't believe you'd be doing Spike any dishonor in trying to write your own Fan Fiction.
*Hugs* We all see MLP: FiM in our own ways. We also view the characters based on our own life experiences. As such, a story all your own would be special as it would present another "What If...?" possibility for Spike and the Mane 6.

Zecora doesn't often get a lot of attention. So, as we never really get much of her backstory, I thought it would be fun to have Dawnbreak and Yosh's first quest to go and meet with the Zebras.
As a zebra fan, I've got to ask if you were a fan of the Madagascar movies? I thought they were fun, but I haven't seen the third one yet. :)

Hehe, we're plenty good friends anywhow! And she isn't too big a character but still neat to see her around! And I'm sure findin' out more about other zebras would be extra cool too. (: I barely saw any of the Madagascar movies so I can't really say! Everyone seemed to have a nice rump though. :O
therainbowtroll inspired a lot of fun, new ideas for Dawnbreak when she put this piccie together for me. He was intended to be like Twilight Sparkle's rival. As such, he has "his own way" of pursuing magic and wisdom than she does. Where Twilight likes books, Dawnbreak likes "First-Hand Accounts".The hat he wears hides his Unicorn Horn. He also, not mentioned much, has a spell in which allows him to change his coat and mane color to better blend in and/or show a particular side of himself. He delights most in getting familiar with areas by taking it slow, setting up a lot of camps, and having Yosh diagram and note all in which they encounter for future reference. :)
Unlike Spike, Yosh can actually outrun Dawnbreak's teleporting spells. Especially when Yosh decides to use his ability to run on water to keep from getting a scolding for having an accident or "accidentally" eating the last of the Trail Mix. :)
