Formerly known as Glastenen "Scarlet Oak"
The second creature born from the land after creation, the Bone Dragon possesses incredible power that rivals that of the gods themselves. His older brother Muirfinn was always the more powerful and wiser of the two dragons, leading Glastenen to be consumed by jealousy. Though the other Divine Beasts looked up to him as their Elder, it was never enough to satisfy him.
As the mortal races came into being and became civilized, the Divine Beasts separated, each protecting and guiding a Younger Race. From his roost in the far south, Glastenen watched as his family broke apart, each enjoying the worship and adoration of the mortals. Worse, his brother gifted some mortals with the ability to tame and ride dragons, creating a race of his own, blurring the line between the Elder Race and the gods.
Using knowledge gained from his last companion, Astraea, Queen of the Aether and Spirits, he forged the path of Necromancy. He experimented on mortals for centuries, carefully teasing out every last secret of Blood Magick, Flesh Magick, and using the souls of both sentient and non-sentient beings to power spells and enchantments. All of his experimentation paid off when he mastered the Necromantic Arts and, ripping out his own soul and sealing it away in a phylactery, made himself into a powerful lich. His newfound power was immense and he used it to raise the dead and create monsters to serve him. He used his influence to spread the knowledge of Necromantic Magick as far as he could, recruiting powerful mages for his purposes. The most powerful and cunning he made his generals, turning them into liches to ensure their loyalty and absorb their power: he was able to devour their souls, making himself more powerful while acting as a living phylactery for his thralls.
His kingdom spreads every year as his undead minions and foul creations multiply and expand into the other kingdoms. Dominion over the entirety of the continent is his ultimate goal, the slaughter and corruption of the mortals that stole his family from him merely a tool to that end. What he intends for them is likely even worse...
I got the lineart for the Bone Dragon from a trade I did with modestmonster a while back. Getting his colors right took me some time- nothing felt right for the longest time, so I took a break from him and came back with fresh eyes and this is what came about! His story has been done for months, so now that the design part is finished, behold!
