The (Furry) Illustrated Geek Social Fallacies: #2

" The origins of GSF2 are closely allied to the origins of GSF1. After being victimized by social exclusion, many geeks experience their "tribe" as a non-judgmental haven where they can take refuge from the cruel world outside.
This seems straightforward and reasonable. It's important for people to have a space where they feel safe and accepted. Ideally, everyone's social group would be a safe haven. When people who rely too heavily upon that refuge feel insecure in that haven, however, a commendable ideal mutates into its pathological form, GSF2.
Carriers of GSF2 believe that since a friend accepts them as they are, anyone who criticizes them is not their friend. Thus, they can't take criticism from friends -- criticism is experienced as a treacherous betrayal of the friendship, no matter how inappropriate the criticized behavior may be.
Conversely, most carriers will never criticize a friend under any circumstances; the duty to be supportive trumps any impulse to point out unacceptable behavior.
GSF2 has extensive consequences within a group. Its presence in substantial quantity within a social group vastly increases the group's conflict-averseness. People spend hours debating how to deal with conflicts, because they know (or sometimes merely fear) that the other person involved is a GSF2 carrier, and any attempt to confront them directly will only make things worse. As a result, people let grudges brew much longer than is healthy, and they spend absurd amounts of time deconstructing their interpersonal dramas in search of a back way out of a dilemma.
Ironically, GSF2 carriers often take criticism from coworkers, supervisors, and mentors quite well; those individuals aren't friends, and aren't expected to accept the carrier unconditionally."

Ok, I dont think this is about cubs stictly, but I do see how both are in common. Most cubs look to their world to escape the real world of hate and disrespect. They look to each other to be accepted and many times only talk to other cubs and or AB's. When someone outside their relm doesnt accept them they instantly take offence, but... hence, I have come up with another way to explain this..... AB's, and Cubs are like Furries as a whole.
Furries generally stick together and try to escape a world where animals are disappearing, where people dont care, and where many just kick others aside because of their kinks or dislikes...... When people disaprove Furries we try to defend ourselves.
This can be compaired to again, America! When settlers set fourth and landed on the "New Land" They were trying to escape the real world of Tax and rule. They were trying to escape a government that they didnt agree with.. When another country like Iraq disagrees with our thoughts and wishes, we attack to defend our "Image" of what the world should be like. [And look what happened :P]
So, GSF 1&2 exists in everyone. Including me and you. Maybe not in a diaper, or a fursuit, or in America, bt everyone has some form of this.... some form of what they call normal, and when another disapproves, that normal is defended.

How about something on geek defense mechanisms like speaking like a moron (lulz, butthurt) and how it doesn't actually make you invincible.

Isn't there a corollary to Godwin's law that actually mentioning Godwin's law to end a discussion will Never Work.

i agree with the girl id rather keep it a secret then go around in public in a fur suit and diaper. but hey if thats what people like im just sayin... its alittle wierd to me. and my god my characters are demons and angels and gays and shapeshifters and shit like that... tutty fruity color filled gays who bleed acid! j/k i play a VARIETY of things. things that range from the god awful the unholy cute. well not so much those 2 but you catch my drift. i will rp anything. almost everything i DO have my boundaries. and that concludes that half of the rant. not to the second half. did hitler hate the jews cus his father was one who beat him severly? or WAS he just another christian extremist? am i thinking of doctor evil? btw sorry for such a LONG and pointless rant in post.
