Rhesos is a koronous born of a lively spring river, the sun high in the sky gleaming down on the bubbling depths that race from the mountain to the ocean. He lived happily making trips up and down the river until one day he could no longer return to the ocean to visit his friends there, because men had built a dam to keep the river from flowing naturally, and taking the life-source away from plants and animals farther down the river as well. Rhesos tried to sense with the men, but was ignored. So, in sacrifice, he cut out his own tongue, as nature was unable to speak for itself. His sacrifice accepted, he gained a cross tattoo on his face, symbolic of the lack of speech. Rhesos is a rare hooved koronous, born with Pan's great feet, and though Pan tries to be fair in all things, he cannot help but favor these children, so Rhesos was granted both a new tongue (though he cannot speak, he can only sing, and his songs have magical properties), as well as his freedom. Rhesos enchanted the men into destroying the dam with his new voice, and continues to travel up and down it, keeping peace.
