The best half-finger gloves I ever bought were "wheelchair gloves," made for folks who spend the majority of their time having to wrangle their wheelchairs. Very strong leather on the insider of the fingers that comforted the fingerpads. On the outside, a nice netting that allowed the glove to breathe.
But I wouldn't mind some carbon-fiber either.
