It's still the 31st where I am!!
Phew... I spent the whole month working on this, and I still only barely made it in time. I need to pick up my pace a bit...
This year for halloween, I decided to draw my characters in costume as a League of Legends team! There were several considerations I went through before making my final choices, but I had the roles pretty much set out from the beginning.
Maple was very easy, going mid lane as a mage character. I had considered Lux as well, but chose Annie the Dark Child for being a more standard burst-type mage.
I had initially considered that Robo-Kitty might be Blitzcrank, just by virtue of being a robot (not sure how the costume would work out though), but then I realized Vi the Piltover Enforcer was a perfect/much better fit since she has giant robo-fists and her capabilities consist of 'punch' and 'punch harder' (as Robo-Kitty has super-strength to begin with). She's jungling.
Those two were easy choices, which left me several options for Jazz, Rina, and Niko, although I did know which positions they should be in; Jazz going solo top as a fighter/tank, and Rina and Niko sharing the bottom lane as marksman and support. For Jazz, I considered Shen (to be a tank) and Kennen (may not be a 'fighter', but he is pretty versatile, and even has a lightning theme). I wasn't sure between Rina and Niko who should be which role, so my options were a bit more varied; for Rina, I figured she could be Ashe as a marksman, or for a support she could possibly be Lux, Sona, or maybe even Leona (although having Rina be a tank might seem a little silly :P ). I was strongly considering Ezreal for Niko (I think the roles would have been most fitting if Niko were Ezreal, Rina was support, and Jazz was a tank), but then I had the thought of him wearing a Rammus outfit, and decided it was just too cute to pass up the opportunity (Rammus may be much more suited to jungling, but I have had success with him playing as support too).
So with Niko decided as support-tank Rammus the Armordillo, the other two fell into place; Rina as marksman Ashe the Frost Archer, and Jazz as top-lane Kennen the Heart of the Tempest.
I had wanted to go all the way and shade everyone as well, but even though I was trying to simplify outfits somewhat, Robo-Kitty/Vi's whole get-up alone was so complex that I decided it'd be a nightmare to try and shade, so I dropped that (clearly I wouldn't have had time anyway!). The background was a little bit last-minute-y... even once I had everyone colored, I still hadn't figured out what a good background would be or how I would go about making one. I ended up doing a rather flat-color-ish painting thing, though I can't say I'm very good at painting, or backgrounds in general (can you tell? :v ). Eagle-eyed LoL players might be able to pick out the exact specific location though!
Something I realized is that the perspective of the characters and background don't quite line up so well... specifically, I had made Maple bigger because she's meant to be hovering above and closer in the foreground, but the angle of the ledge below her doesn't help make that clear. I dunno. In terms of actual accurate sizes, she should be a fair bit smaller compared to the others.
So... yeah! Happy halloween and junk! I DON'T plan to attempt anything this big again in the foreseeable future though @_@
