They say cats don't like water. Well, there's probably some truth to that. I don't mind it so much, personally. Lived near water for most my whole life. Though, other folk might be surprised to find a cheetah here. I don't care, though. Why not wander into nature a bit, get away from everything for a few glorious moments. The cool touch of the water, the humid warmth of the air, the gentle breeze in your fur. Usually, though, I just sit outside, listening to the crash of waves on water, and smelling a salty breeze. That's home. This is different, though. Wading through the water and foliage. But in some ways, it's all the same to me. It's still water and air. It's a long ago and far away feeling that I long for. It's an escape from reality. So, really, is that surprising for a cheetah to be here? Because in the end, all this is is running away. At least for a little while.
So, this is actually a rather interesting commission. I commissioned it back last summer when I had, like, just a couple pictures of my fursona. And this was before I started getting commission crazy, so my wallet didn't hate me then. I had already commissioned Spikie previously for my first commission, and she was nice to work with, and she was offering commissions because she needed some money. I wanted to help, so I bought a full commission from her.
There was just one problem: I didn't have a good idea. Or maybe I did. This was half a year ago. Hard to remember the details of the conversation. Either way, it's still a very common problem for me. So, my reasoning for the picture was like this was like this: "Hey. I got a king cheetah character. But, all the pictures I have don't show that he's a king cheetah. I need a picture that shows off his back so when people see my character they know he's a king cheetah." So, she sketched out a few thumbnails. I actually liked a few of them, but there was one she made that she liked a lot. And the more I looked at it, the more I liked it too. I am always of the opinion that it is best to commission art that the artist will enjoy, and so I went with that idea.
This is the picture it finally became, and honestly, I feel like I underpaid her now. This picture is gorgeous. There's the lighting of the scene, of the sunlight filtered through the trees. There's the detail all throughout the picture, in the different foliage and the ripples. Oh, the ripples. Did I mention the awesome water effects? No? I should. I love painterly styles. No, seriously, painterly styles rock. Nothing against drawings or very neat, clean pictures. It's just something like this has that little...I don't know what about them that appeals to me.
But anyways, I got this picture back at the beginning of the year, and I'm just now getting around to uploading it. Part of the reason is school and work has been seriously getting to me and I've been putting this off. Another reason is that I've had a number of commissions I needed to upload, and I have planned out the order I'm uploading it. Took me a while to come up with a good story, though. Because, like I said, this wasn't an idea I came up with myself. I just stole the title from this song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcbRMzH27GM And I really do love that song, by the way. Listen to it. And maybe it wouldn't be so surprising I chose that song for the title. Or maybe it would and I'm just bad at writing stories and such. Heh.
Super awesome big thanks to Spikie for making this amazing picture. Give her some your love and attention because she makes some awesome art, and not just furry art, which is also awesome.
