It starts purring after it's placed in front of something soft for a short while. I have no idea what to call it.
I came up with the idea for the soft object sensor a while ago and didn't really have a use for it. I just hacked this together while taking a break from studying, I'll probably get it into an enclosure and possibly improve it later. I think it would be pretty cool to put it in inside of a collar of some sort, so it will purr when you are facing a fursuit.

I feel like i've made this exact comment somewhere before... but I see that you're taking advantage of one of the failings of ultrasonic sensors and using it to detect soft things by the lack of a signal being returned. My one question is will it be constantly purring if you go outdoors?
The idea for the sensor was posted to my tumble blog and to /r/electronics on reddit, perhaps you left a comment on it there?
It shouldn't constantly purr outdoors. I'm using an IR sensor in addition to the ultrasonic one, when the IR sensor detects an object but the ultrasonic sensor does, it starts to purr. The IR sensor I'm using is only sensitive to IR light that is flashing at a particular frequency so ambient light should not be an issue.
