Edit, March 25th 2014: Changed "…Space will simultaneously tear apart and crush you…" to "…All thought, all spirit and all life will end for you…" to better describe Gralo's fate.
If you think about it, sent to the void is actually, in a way, better than either the death-peanalty or life without parole. Time stops for you when you're in the void, so you could be pulled out any time afterward and be in the exact same state as when you were thrown in. Unlike a life sentence, you wouldn't have time to go crazy or physically degenerate because there would be no time for that to happen, and unlike the death sentence, you can be brought back unharmed.
Of course, brining back someone like Gralo for rehabilitation would be a daunting prospect, given that his starting point would be in the exact same state as when he was thrown in, and wouldn't have had the time to mull over the past events like a conventional inmate, but I think he'd be hard to rehabilitate no matter what they did.

except he's technically not "dead" but whatever
Just one problem with imprisoning villains in void dimensions: They can get out (not necessarily on their own), and when they do, chances are they're gonna be pissed. Usually happens at the worst possible time, too. Like when you're dealing with another villain, who happens to be "genre savvy", and finds a way to open up your void prison and set free all the monsters you've locked up in there, all perfectly preserved and thirsting for vengeance.
Of course, by the time you get to the point where you have to recycle old villains, the heroes have probably gained like 10 billion power levels and make the former threats look like a joke. (Poor Frieza got one-shotted every time they brought him back.)
