Just working out the kinks. To actually come this far is pretty neat. I've already shown this to Seiokou like weeks ago but I didn't show her the edits I did to it. I kept going to bird wings to no wings. I think adding wings probably wouldn't make sense for this species.... sooo out the door with that idea. No matter how much I like harpies... rofl.
FAIR WARNING! THIS WILL BE A PREDATORY SPECIES!!
Species Name: Bargheist
Basic characteristic: Bird like feet with a furry lizard like tail. Mashed with my version of wargs. :D So horns and long stiff ears and very wolf like.
Function of looks: The large tail is used for balance for high speed chases although they don't mind an ambush. Thick powerful clawed hands for a sturdy grip ready to hold onto whatever they catch no matter how much it squirms. The long ears help with the streamline look but can hear prey from far away. Directionally they don't move much and sounds right in front of them are a little muffled. To the side and behind however is very clear. They have good eyesight so it's really hard to sneak by one of these guys.
Typical attack maneuver: Chase prey down. It'll leap with all limps pointed towards the prey if it can grab said prey it'll then hold tightly and kick it trying to tear flesh off while trying to bite and eat it. They do not specialize in any specific prey but will prey on anything they think they can out maneuver and kill.
Courtship: Much like my wargs the horns are used in courtship. The most well kept and shiny horns get the females. Unlike my wargs though they will joust with other males for mating rights. They will not use their claws during jousting. Females will have smaller horns and will try flirting with their tails held higher then normal. Males like "healthy" looking tails in females but generally are not picky. If their horn breaks or is fractured they will die.
Social structure: They live in a monarchical type society with males being in charge of a harem. They can be easily domesticated though and kept as guard pets. When kept as a pet they will loose the desire to hunt and can easily be housed with their prey species. To tame them though they must be raised in that environment. If taken from the wild they'll try and eat housemates and males will challenge any male they see.
Basically when you "adopt" one of these species they have either been fully domesticated or partially domesticated so they can easily work in any "world" you might have with your other characters. However if the wild version fits perfectly then they can easily be wild.
Sexual Dimorphism and Breeding: Males tend to be taller then females. Males unlike my other two species (the Batears and the Flametails) have outwardly showing genitals. Females have breasts and do breast feed their young. (How many nipples is by owner's choice. I think I might make them have 6 with two always plump.. ) Females can give birth two 4-6 pups.
Variation to the species: The main horn stays the same but the secondary horn can look different or be located differently. (Secondary horn barely sticks out from skin) There is a fluffier version of them for the more colder regions. All young are fluffy.
THIS IS NOT AN OPEN SPECIES! Please don't create your own. If you're interested in having offspring of yours please let me know through the note system. We can easily work out a deal and you'll have yourself a litter for a small price per pup.
