I've drawn this scene a million times, but none of them ever were colored so I never posted any of them. This time I made sure to do that, and also include the psycho mom Jezebel in the picture. Okay.. STORY TIME! (I quickly typed this up, so there may be both grammatical and spelling errors)
Paul and Georgio were adopted by these two farm hounds, Jezebel and Canis. Jezebel was a mean girl, she dominated her husband Canis who cowered at the sound of her voice and preferred to hide in the garage and work on things. Jezebel also hated children, especially BOYS, and didn't want to deal with the screaming, fighting, spitting, dirtiness, or whining. She thought that the best solution was to lock Paul and Georgio up in the barn, inside cages. She'd only let them out during harvest time when she'd put on a ball and chain around their ankles so they could pick corn cobs, then she'd put back into their cages as if putting away tools into a shed. Their golden-furred sister, Daisy, was an angel in Jezebel's eyes, not like her "dirty stinky" brothers, so she was able to live inside the house with Jez and Canis. She never was able to see her brothers, and they never knew if she was alive.
Many days, when Georgio felt hopelessness and depressed, Paul would say, "Just you wait, Georgie, m'lad! I have a plan to escape this sawdust factory and obtain FREEDOM! FREEEEDOM GEORGE! We'll be out of here and run away so fast that not even a thousand Jezebels could catch us! This marvelous plan is so simple that she'd never see it coming! It's BRILLIANT!" Though, Paul was often met with skepticism from his brother, it always managed to stop his tears.
One fine, harvest morning, Paul and Georgio were chained up and sent out into the cornfield. They picked corn until dusk, when the sun turned the sky a bright red-orange. Paul decided the time was right to unleash his Marvelous Plan. Paul sniffed the air to see which way it was blowing, it was in their favor, blowing away from the house. Georgio watch in horror as Paul took his shirt and wrapped it around a corn stalk then took a small, thick twig and tied the arms around it, then proceeded to turn the twig again and again until it twisted tightly around the stalk and fractured it. Then he twisted the stalk to get rid of the many hairs that held fast to the remaining stump. The final CRACK echoed across the field, which made Paul double his pace. Taking the stalk, he jammed it into the iron cuff around his ankle and told Georgio to help push on the end as if it were a crow-bar. The beautiful sound of the clamp giving out was like music to Paul's ears, he whispered, "Freedom, big brother! It is our time now!" Georgio whimpered and pleaded with Paul to stop, fearing they'd be caught any moment and that they'd surely be whipped for it. But, Paul ignored him and jabbed the stalk tween his cuff and ankle and began to lever it until his broke off. "Oh no!" Georgio whimpered in a half-whisper, "Look what you've--!"
Before he could finish his sentence, Paul grabbed his paw and flew through the field heading in the opposite direction of the sun, which was where he knew the house stood. "There must be a road somewhere! I remember it when we were adopted and came here. We MUST get to the road!" Paul said. Suddenly, they heard yelling of a rough-voiced female behind them, Jezebel had come to cage them before dark and discovered they had disappeared. She grabbed a small scythe from the barn and ran galloped after them. Paul shrieked and spun around terrified to see a scythe blade fly near his body and watch remaining stalks splinter behind him. He told his brother, "GEORGE, GO! I'LL FEND HER OFF, KEEP RUNNING!", then grabbed one of the fallen stalks and faced her. Georgio did what he was told, he ran, too terrified to think about what awaited his brother. Finally, he reached an area with an upward slope and climbed up it to discover a paved trail at its peak. "THE ROAD! PAUL! I found it!" He looked behind him and shouted his brothers name, hoping he'd hear him and know to run towards his voice, "Surely he was behind me.. He WAS. Oh no!" He cupped his paws over his mouth, his voice whispering through a veil of tears, his mind suddenly realizing what must've happened, "Dead... Paul! Dead.." His rational side knew this, but his mind couldn't believe it. Just then his legs became weak and he fell to his knees on the road. "PAAAAUUUUL!!" he howled. Just then he heard the sound of a motor coming his way and looked to see a little green truck. His eyes grew enormous and his voice uttered gravely, "Jezebel.." His body, under a power of its own, crawled with great speed and thrusted him off the road and he rolled down to the foot of the slope. The truck pulled up and stopped there. Canis' voice bellowed Paul's name. George ran up the slope and met him at the truck window. "GEORGE!" Canis said surprised, "I didn't expect you to make it out of there alive! Where's Paul?"
"He.. He didn't make it! I'm so scared!" he shivered.
Canis told him to quickly get inside the truck. When he did, he found his sister, Daisy, in the passenger seat. She screamed excitedly and so did he, and they hugged each other tightly.
Canis spoke up, "I've been waiting for all of you to grow up enough to be able to make it on your own. When I saw you two take off through the field, it was the opportunity I needed to get little Daisy away from your mother and take her away from this place. I took her to the truck and hope you and your brother would make it to the road. ...I'm gonna take you as far away as I can, and then go over to the police station. At last, I'm gonna tell them EVERYTHING."
Canis dropped off Daisy and George at the docks, giving a few last reassuring words before speeding off, "Your brother was strong-willed, he would survive anything your mother could throw at him. I'm sure he's safe." George and Daisy watched the truck shrink into the distance, then looked for a place to stay. They found an old abandoned boat house with barrels, they decided it was safer to be in barrels than be out in the open, so they each climbed into one. He whispered a few comforting words to his little sister. After she was asleep, he curled up inside his barrel and became so worried about Paul and so full of fear of being found by Jezebel that it numbed his brain to the point that it could no longer function and he blacked out.
