My corner of a collective art exhibition held last week in Spoleto in certral Italy, featuring http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13044386/ and http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12780219/ . Unfortunately I couldn't be there for the opening, I'd have loved to hear any comment on the pictures, but I'll ask one of my friends who was there. Anyway the bunny painting was accepted in the show without any problem. I keep finding evidence that most non-furries don't read a picture like that one as a sexy pinup... I suspect most people just see it as a parody of human nudes.
Next show will be in autumn and I'm planning something very special for it... stay tuned!

Indeed they are, modernism is still very strong in Italy and I think we're lagging a bit behind the revival of classical painting which has been happening in other Western countries. That's good for me though, it makes the pictures stand out more than they would if most of the paintings had a traditional style.
It's very interesting, and the reaction I get from people at these exhibitions are changing the way I see my own art. I always had problems giving a clear explanation of my art to non-furries because I tried to explain the sex appeal of anthros and the convoluted fantasies behind my pictures. But turns out that most people are not interested in hearing about that. That's the nerdy part which only matters to other furries. Non-furries are interested in much simpler elements of my art, stuff that I (like most furries) tend to take for granted: they like the cuteness and charm of the characters, and they like the contrast between that and the overtly sexual/dramatic situations they are put in.
These are indeed the basics of all furry art, the basic appeal which brought most of us to furry art in the first place. But we tend to forget that basic appeal since we are so used to it.
