All right so randomly while living in my apartment building I met one of my neighbors while she was heading back inside from walking her adorable little chihuahua. I commented how adorable and little she was and the lady replied "since she was so little I named her Pixel." Being the digital artist that I am, I squeed and utterly loved the idea of that as a name. I mean come on, how much more adorable can you get than a tiny chihuahua named Pixel? XD
Then it got me thinking of just what an awesome name it would be for a pony. But I didn't want to just name a pony Pixel, so I started thinking of other computer/cyber/mechanical words to attach to that to make a cute name. Then THIS popped in my head LOL. Pixel Widget. How freaking adorable is that?! XD
So... I decided since her name was so techy related, I wanted to make an android/robotic pony. I've designed them for others in the past and also had a slight one for myself but not a solid straight all animatronic pony. So I started designing her in my off hours while I waited to take my aunt to work in the mornings.
So here she is!
Name: Pixel Widget
Classification: M.A.R.E. - Mechanically Animated Research Engine
She was created by a pony scientist who is horribly Agoraphobic. He wanted to know more about Equestria but was paralyzed with fear at the thought of leaving his laboratory. So he created Pixel Widget as a way to explore and catalog the environment throughout her travels and to sort of be his eyes out in the world.
Since she is mechanically based, she wants to do whatever she can to just blend into the crowd so that her data she is cataloging isn't adversely affected(little critters running away cause she's a machine, or ponies in a town freaking out thinking she's there to kill them, etc LOL). So she was built with the ability to add a unicorn horn hologram from her forehead to use as a way to blend in cities and towns that are predominately unicorn inhabited. Also since he wanted to see everything in Equestria including the places where pegasus live, she was given mecha wings that are retractable and stored inside her body cavity.
Also a note: because her horn hologram and her wings are used for keeping her well blended in, they are hardly EVER out at the exact same time. Aka she only appears as a unicorn or a pegasus, never an alicorn. I just have them out for the sake of this ref sheet.
Also as a means of camouflage, she can change her hair at will. Her hair is made up of fiber optic wires that she can control the length, color and style to better adapt to her surroundings.
That's it for right now. There will be more of her later, including a colored pic of her (will most likely be this sketch) but when I'm not so tired or busy. X3

Pretty much yep! ^^ I don't generally write all that much, but having a deeper background story helps me draw things for personal characters. It doesn't always work with other people's characters since I don't have that personal connection to them, but at least with my own it does. ^^
And there will most definitely be more to come ^^ I do plan on designing her creator, but still have a lot to hash out for him first.

No the joints are still there. But when you're walking through a crowded city, how often do you glance and notice lines on peoples faces in a crowd? Or watch someone's knees when they walk?
Right now, her seams are rather apparent because they're bright blue against a gray background. Mind you when she's colored her lines are going to be a gray color and her body will be solid white. It won't be such a stark contrast as now.

Yes, but in a universe that at least to date hasn't introduced the concept of artificial ponies, she'd stand out if she can't blend in. If there was only one, they'd be noticed moderately quickly, I think.
I'm not complaining, more like planning possible ideas, and I could think of a potential use for a character like this. If she had a holographic 'pony' form or a mimetic skin, that might work well for camoflauge.

Honestly we don't know that artificial ponies haven't been introduced. And even then, it's not like she'd be running around the middle of Ponyville screaming "HEY LOOK AT ME!" xD Trust me, she'd blend in regardless. I planned her to be an android, so I'm not giving her a way where she looks exactly like your everyday pony cause to me that's such a waste. Why even bother saying she's an android at that point? LOL

I just think it's more realistic that way, given Changelings and such. Sure, they might not run down the street saying look at me, but you would notice a changeling. My point is she wouldn't be in disguise all the time, but in cases of interaction I think it'd be an asset. Just an opinion.
No problem, I wouldn't be able to do anything about it for some time anyway, but if you change your mind, for now the opportunity is open, but I suspect our ideas might be a bit far apart for it to work.

I don't see why you think it'd be so blatantly "omg she's a robot!". XD
A changeling in an average pony town, yes would be a sore thumb. They're predominately dark in color, have insect wings, and different eyes than the average pony, not to mention holes in their legs. They're vastly different.
Pixel Widget on the other hand will end up with solid white body and the ability to change her hair to any style, color and length to the point where it will look like any other pony's hair. She could very easily look like a mimic of Rarity or Sweetie Bell to the point where the only thing that distinguishes them apart are her seams, which again aren't going to be these harsh lines nor glow.
So I don't see why she'd be such a freak of nature to stand out immediately in a crowd? XD

I suppose you're saying she'd stand up to cursory evaluation, and I suppose it doesn't matter anyway, but I'll look forward to the colored version. I just keep thinking of the one you did for Enkai which may have been a more obvious robot, the way they also reacted to zecora, who was mostly seen covered until she took off her hood when twilight arrived, things like that.
