He heard the quiet humming of the engine, as galaxies and nebulas drifted past.
And she stood beside him, admiring the sapphire stars and the cinnamon-tinged moons.
She didn’t have to hear him say it, not with the misty-eyed look he was giving her now.
But as her paw slipped into his, his voice finally broke the gentle silence on the observation deck.
“Thank God for Sundays.”
The triumphant return of 5-Sentence Sunday! For those of you've never heard of it (or forgotten, for which I don't blame you), every Sunday I'll put up a story written in 5 sentences or fewer. This format was inspired by the Flash Fiction event at Confuzzled, which I've participated in since 2013.
I really do like this piece, but I liked it even better when Huskyteer read it out at CF this year. Husky's awesome, and you should check out some of her writing (of which there is a lot).
This piece started out as a much needed improvement on my old story Lovebirds (now in the scraps section, here). I always liked the general idea of that one, but I've never been happy with the actual writing of it. The sentences seemed to drag on and take away from the general mood, and it just didn't come together the way I wanted it to. This version definitely does, though, and is probably my second-favorite 5-sentence story I've done after Piano (which you can find right here).
This story (and your soul) belong to me.
