This gull has just taken a dip, hunting for food. You can see the spray of the water as he shakes himself off like a dog. I didn't know they did that!

Well, I've got three very important things crucial for getting any good pictures at all, location, subjects, and time! You wouldn't think that there would be so many subjects in a small patch of notoriously boring Manitoba prairies but there's plenty up here. Oh, and I hammer away at it like the bent maniac I am. The more I'm out in the field the more opportunities I have, there's a lot of luck involved and it's also akin to hunting. To get this shot I had to luck out in getting this wicked fog which I'd also predicted because of my familiarity with the weather. So there's luck and being ready for it when it comes along, can't use it if you don't see it coming! And then there's tenacity... gods are digitals wicked! 1,300+ pictures that morning but that's padded by a lot of panoramas, HDR's which take three shots, and then endless snapping. But yah I basically planted myself by where the gulls were feeding, focused on a patch of water they were hitting, and then it's all tracking and timing. Oh, I also practice tracking and snapping birds in motion all the time, good subject or no, because practice makes perfect!
wow! hehe sounds hard! Ive never put that kind of effort into my pics..but..I understand why youre so good now...its obviously a passion of yours! I salute your tenacity! and Practice practice practice! haha I might have to play around with my madre's camera for a while....
