This gorgeous lady is right outside our back porch... Picture was taken thru the screen so its hard to see all the detail on her. What looks like black is actually a dark burgundy!
I'm looking to you to help me tell what kind she is. She's GOT TO BE about 5 inches in diameter.. her web spans over two feet...
haha
Karavan for the win! thanks hon, now she has a name!

That's such a neat spider, and I'm not familiar with this species at all, so getting to see a new spider is a big treat! It must be a tropical climate spider. The only spiders I've seen in the Appalachias are Wolf spiders, teeny tiny cobwebby spiders, spiders with spiky rears, spiders that make those intricate webs that are like houses, ground spiders, and.. A Spider-Man sighting over a decade ago xD
But yeah, you folks in Florida must have some neat wildlife =3

I happen to love spiders, myself. I blame media for making people so fearful of them, really. =B Such a lovely lady, she is. You're lucky to see one like that! Rarest things I ever find in my yard are either lizards (tiny ones that I can't remember the name of) or praying mantises.
Pretty in a picture... of course... if it were actually near me, I'd be going berserk and trying to kill it... I'm arachnomanic... (not phobic)
Phobias cause a person to run away or freeze in fear...
Manias cause a person to become frenzied and do everything in their power to destroy said mania.
