Special $25 Faction/Experimental Commissions
Okay! Finally things seem set enough so I’m allowed to share this new project / commissions with you all. I’m pretty excited about it, and I hope you might be to!
First, a little background / forward:
I closed off commissions because I felt that by doing the same thing over and over, I wasn’t getting any better or improving my skill. I was a bit reluctant to try anything “new” with commissions, so I always ended up doing what was in my realm of comfort (3/4 view, full body, same general angle, etc). Without experimenting and trying new things, I can’t improve! It was starting to bother me that I felt there was so much more I could be giving my commissions - I just didn’t know how. I want to be able to provide the best possible art I can for all of you, and it bothered me when I felt I wasn’t able. So rather than just taking a long break, I thought of a way I could possibly still provide commissions while getting in the practice I need. I’m still blown away with the sheer number of commissions and support all of you have shown me, it really means a lot! I’m extremely grateful for each opportunity; thank you all so much!
So with all that being said, here’s the rundown of these new temporary commissions:
Like with the previous RCP commissions, for $25, I'll be offering an expirimental* wing-it image of a character of your choice, in the theme of one of these three pictured factions. After picking one, you can further customize by picking one of the weapons / options pertaining to the characters. Any small extra details or little customized notes are fine too, and a one-word mood or theme is encouraged too!
However, know that this is a themed offer, so if you would like some customization (which by all means, go for it!) just be respectful that the wardrobe can't be excessively tweaked (changing the look of a faction, colors [Survivors are an exception], large articles of clothing, etc), and tech levels should be ~1980s. Unfortunately, that means no glowing powered armor or weapons from beyond that time... sorry!
So, some example orders would be (with included relevant character reference)
Peddler, G65 with launcher
Details: Remorseful, playing with helmet
Savior, no weapon
Details: Relaxing
Survivors, Heavy
Details: Extremely modified, but tying into the colors of my character
If anyone is interested, please send a note including your paypal address! Any questions or comments - just let me know and I'll address them ASAP!
* Experimental means I’ll be trying things I don’t normally do, or am in some need of practicing in. This entails different angles, colors, shading, perspectives, maybe trying for more detailed backgrounds. I might not draw the entire chracter, their back may be turned to the audience, or other obscuring factors due to some different poses.

Thank you!
I can't say for sure what influences my writing; I don't really read that much anymore (I used to read a lot of Michael Crichton though).
In terms of art and interests, I like to look at a lot of concept art. The more "style" and less "clutter detail" (a lot of "over-rendered, over-detailed" modern mech / character designs) the better. Tsutomo Nihei's works like BLAME! and Biomega I like a lot as well. Music plays a huge part in it to - I like to make "soundtracks" to whatever I'm working on, and build stories and concepts off them based on what I hear.

I hope this explains some! I tried to use my words, and feel free to disregard everything I said because I'm by no means a professional and have a pencil-thin range of things I like. Just my personal thoughts!

Hey no worries!
This mostly addressing how I think about the design, rather than practicality - that's a whole other can of worms haha.
I much rather practical designs, but when dealing with mechs (already impracticable unless it's more of a powered armor) if you go about "building" it practically and realistically, there's very little variation on what you can do.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

I have indeed been playing Quake 2 for the first time, so that was a major influence here! I tried to make the Survivors be a sort of mix of all my favorite scary cyborg things, like Virus, Quake II Strogg, etc - anything that had that really cold and hard-edged mechanical look. Not so much organic like the Quake 4 variations or other moderns cyborg designs. Like 80s / 90s cyborg monsters!
You won't, trust me. It's nice to see an artist try to get a bit out of the box, you know. I've seen countless good artists sticking themselves to commissions and retreating into their very own comfort zones... even though they still made their own stuff from time to time, you could see that their commission work kinda "limited" their personal art.
Again, it's great that you decide to change that if you have that feeling you retreat into some sort of comfort zone with your commissions, and it's even better that your watchers and fans get involved and can benefit from that.

Thanks!
The Peddler's weapons are more like SMGs that fire smaller, speedier rounds that are able to pierce their Savior enemies' heavier armor. They use normal cartridges. "Sweepers" are something they started cobbling together once they landed on the island. It's a nasty, short-range weapon mostly meant for blowing away indigenous fauna.
The Saviors are more advanced, and use (with the exception of their munitions launcher, the GR1,) caseless weapons. Their main rifle (and pistol) loads from the butt end, with a huge stick-like magazine. The large capacity makes it more like a support weapon, but it's also extremely accurate due to the firing mechanisms. It's basically an "all-in-one" weapon, and with a scope becomes a pretty effective marksman / sniper weapon.

Hmm interesting...
So the peddlers as you mention use their weapons like SMG's but the way you describe them sound more like PDW's with the ability to penetrate body armor. I guess their firing high velocity armor piercing ammunition, must not do alot of tissue damage if they can cut through the saviors armor surprisingly well.
If the Sweeper was a recent addition I take it that it works much like a modern shotgun/blunderbuss combo, possibly having the ability to load any kind of "makeshift" ammunition and fire it without the weapon exploding. I guess this would lead to some horrific wounds on those unarmored.
The Peddlers Under-Barrel launcher looks rather small, I'm guessing it fires a relatively small grenade or micro-rocket. Possibly a 30mm warhead by the size. Any details on that?
As for the Saviors, I take it they've solved the core problem with Caseless ammunition being Ammo Cook off when the weapon gets surprisingly hot, more so if they're used in a supportive manner. I'm curious exactly what the GR1 Launcher is, is it a Grenade Launcher or a Rocket Launcher? Or maybe even a combination of both perhaps?

More or less, yeah!
Their tech level is supposed to be "198X" - with the Saviors weapons being a giant "what-if" the G11's development was pursued further and the kinks worked out.
The Peddler's launcher I had intended to be kind of like a GP-30, where you'd load the grenades into the front - http://content.foto.mail.ru/communi.....854/s-1939.jpg But it's totally possible I just erroneously drew it wrong, haha.
The GR1 is mostly a semi-automatic grenade rifle, similar to the "China Lake" launcher but without having a pump-action.

Well you weren't completely off the peddlers grenade launcher, it just seemed to me like it was a swing out design, similar to the HK79, M320 or AG36 but I think it would work out well. Plus those grenades would probably be the only "caseless" ammunition the peddlers would use, as the GP-30 uses Caseless 40mm Grenades.
I do like the idea of a modern china lake, although to be fair I still prefer this version of a modern china lake: http://i2.guns.ru/forums/icons/foru.....09/2109876.jpg
Also, what caliber range are we looking at here? I'm guessing the G66 is a .308 or .30 caliber rifle while the G65 must be something like a 10mm or a small .20 caliber round?

Oooh thank you! If you already have enough on your plate don't feel obligated! I can catch your commissions another time.
If you still want to keep a slot open for me, I was thinking of just giving you a few characters to choose from and you picking what faction/what you would like to do, theme etc. Just have fun with it, be it gore, badassery, or death, anything, but I can always give direction too if you prefer.
