Recently found some inspiration for a drawing from a random comment exchange dating back to 2008 between my friends BlooperKoopa19 and
tairupanda on this:http://blooperkoopa19.deviantart.co.....Link-103322845
Basically, back on the now defunct Official Nintendo NSider Forums, I always had this Deku Link icon: http://oi59.tinypic.com/ih5hg9.jpg set as my profile avatar, as shown here: http://oi59.tinypic.com/j14i8h.jpg
I never changed it during my whole time as a member of the NSider Forums, not even once. That led
tairupanda to remark years later that the icon forever reminded him of me and associated me with having some sort of Deku Scrub self-representative character of my very own. Only thing is, back then I never had such a fan character at that time aside from Reign, Maji, and Koopser. Well, looking back now...that 6-year-old comment exchange stirred up some inspiration for a drawing earlier this month in Art Academy: Sketchpad. And now, I have made it a reality. :0
So...yeah, I guess this is what you might call my "Deku-sona" of sorts, as =super-tuler dubbed it, if I were to be transformed into a Deku Scrub like Link was from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Based off the real me, with the hair and penchant for hats and plaid shirts and fingerless gloves and dog-tag necklaces. Was fun customizing the hat, and the plaid shirt is actually worn over a long-sleeved undershirt with a few bracelets on the wrists. Tried out some different techniques to create different effects (i.e; brick wall background, bubbles, cracks, beams of light, Deku Sticks, broken glass, etc.), so I think it turned out alright enough despite not being all that great to begin with. Was originally going to try and color it but that failed epically so I stayed with keeping it black and white.
Looks like I had a bit too much fun target shooting Deku Nuts and bubbles all over the place.

This is sort of a one-time thing, really. Just some sudden burst of inspiration that came to mind, and that's about it.
And yeah...that's all I have to say about this one.

As always, and in most-specific here; I do say, *impressive* amount of detail, and the attention to so, in the drawn form, be superb!
- Color me a shade of "most impressed", Bowser~!
Always had a soft-spot, for Duke-Scrubs, and Deku-Link in general... Something about their earthly, solid and rotund design, always
peeked my appeal, in their curvatures. Cute leafs-a-clothin', round noggins and beady li'l expressive eyes, always stuck out to me, and
even in so little ways of expression, their sounds and said eyes, always managed to say so much, in so little.
(I could also, [i]of course, go into else and more adult motives, towards them 'Scrubs, and their apparent appendages,
but I feel so would make a disservice towards your splendid work, so I shall keep my mouth shut, and spare you such pervy ponders. ;9 )
Restraint; I do have s o m e~
*cough*
Anyhow,
back to the artz!
May I also say so, before I forget so wholly;
that I deeply admire, how you did with the title and font-works, with 'em 'sticks - it's real s'well~

Deku Scrubs certainly do come in an array of shapes and sizes, haha. Majora's Mask was cool because I felt it humanized their race somewhat, despite it being somewhat odd Nintendo would choose an enemy species of Link to have him turn into alongside much more commonly friendly races like the Gorons and Zoras. The fact they could already talk and had dialogue in Ocarina of Time was interesting enough, unlike say other enemies of Link's that just hiss and grunt at him like Deku Babas or Moblins.
Also I do appreciate the restraint as I don't feel very comfortable with suggestive or adult themes around my artwork.
...Getting back to it, though, hah, yeah I didn't know what to do with the text. First I tried a graffiti approach but I'm not very good at that and it looked misplaced. Then I tried my hand at Twilight Princess Hylian text but that didn't work out so well either. Sticks just made everything easier and felt more theme-appropriate despite it taking a long time to draw it all out.
Thanks for your input, I appreciate it and glad you like it!

No need to thank me, Bowser;
I only do, what comes natural to me~
And speaking my mind on great art, is like second-nature~
And as for that, of the Nintendo 64 era The Legend of Zelda titles...
While it can indeed, be argued over how well they have aged, I can not, by any merit, deny the impact they held,
and truly, much like you said, *they* indeed helped to expand the scope of the Hyrulean world, (and beyond!),
and this added depth, to its and their races, truly was a much and most welcome, expansion~

Yep, I am! Already have the limited edition coming that comes with the Skull Kid figure. Had to walk out in the snowstorm to Gamestop just to get it though, since it was my only chance of nabbing one.
Now if only it wasn't so hard to get the New 3DS special edition...haha.

... That,
and the "World of Nintendo" New York City, Hyrule Warriors (extremely!) limited edition, too -
- along with, yes, Amiibos too. ... And much else and more, too~
(Let us not forget the PS1 anniversary-editions, of them PS4s, being bought up by scalpers aplenty!)
... You know, as much fun as video-gaming is, (be it as a humble hobby or personal passion),
it really sucks when greedy profiteers gets involved alike this, and to be frank, it has only gotten worse and worse -
- especially in the recent times, whatnot with some folks nowadays buying two copies of a purchase; "one for play", as they say, per say, "and one for profit", as to save.
... And honestly, Nintendo themselves, surely isn't helping or hampering the issue of scalpers, and scalping of *their own* products;
whatnot with their "Members Only" Ambassador edition, of the New 3DS,
which you can bet, is gonna go for a nice price on eBay!
And *knowingly* limiting and restricting, the output of certain ALREADY-rare figurines (Amiboos), is also only likewise, driving the after-market prices up~

... Yeah, so is a sad but true truth, and really,
as an individual (opposed of such practices), the only thing one can do of one's own control,
is to not play into such, and leave the scalpers be, since at the least then, that will be one person less into their wallet.

Indeed~
I do not have an issue, with people owning said items in the intent they were intended for,
BUT I DO have an issue, when said people, ONLY own it, for the purpose of making a profit, and in said acts,
stealing those items away from an needy market, and from people who would, you know, actually appreciate said items.
I know buying and selling, is an open marker,
but things like this, just doesn't seem right anymore.
... Things didn't USED to be like *this*, and before, people who bought things in relation to gaming,
was those that gamed equally, and said items, went to their *rightful* owners.
... These days, the market is way to filled-to-the-brim, with greedy profiters,
who only care about money, and not intent-of-product.

This is why I miss the 90s. Capitalism and exclusivity combined with the internet makes getting these kinds of awesome things harder than they usually would be to get. Nowadays, it all goes to the highest bidder rather than to people who are genuinely interested in the product. A real shame really.
...I was going to add something else but I lost my train of thought. <_>;

Yeah, I miss them old days too, at times...
I liked, how back in the day, a game was a game, and there really wasn't multiple versions of it, per say, as it is nowadays -
- no "limited" or "collectors" editions, and likewise no DLC; just the game, and you got what you got. It was a full game, and there were no fuzz about it. Likewise, you got what you got, and the game you got, was the game you wanted - no "editions" to keep in mind, nor pre-orders.
... Things were simpler back then, and sometimes, I do miss so.

Hah, I certainly have my liking for this one too. Mostly because the details I worked really hard on aren't obscured by the edited version. That other one was just for extra added effect, I guess.
Yeah, you might've been recalling a drawing I did wayyy back that I posted on NSider and don't think I've posted since of Deku Link and Zora Link skateboarding on a sidewalk with some other character I can't quite recall. Zoras are pretty cool, but dang they're a tough bunch to illustrate accurately. Deku Scrubs were just easier for my ability so I went with that given how many times I've drawn Deku Link freehand in the past.

Oh yes, they certainly are. Can't begin to tell you how many times Deku Link looked deformed when I'd try drawing him in on the fly in a quick doodle or something. That snout...thing...and the eyes sometimes too.
Wanted to differentiate my Deku version from the official way a bit, hence why the eyes look a bit different here.

Hah, thanks dude. It was cool making this naturally monochromatic rather than use a B&W filter so it certainly was a challenge. Having done those sketches last year though, like the friend OC sketch dumps certainly helped give me a bit of experience even though the final product is far from being perfect, haha.
Glad you enjoyed this dude, and I appreciate the thoughtful feedback. :]
